While the cancellation bear's prediction for The Neighbors has been "certain to be canceled" since mid-October, other headlines kept elbowing that out of the way. Now, with no changes to the ABC predictions this week to otherwise claim the limelight, The Neighbors prediction finally gets its time in the headline.

“Why is Super Fun Night certain to be canceled, yet sitting beside a bunch of certain to be renewed shows?”

Super Fun Night's position in the list is determined by its ratings average, which has yet to “catch up” to its recent ratings declines.

However, its prediction is based primarily on the fact that it didn’t receive a full season order. There are very isolated instances of Fall premiere rookie shows without full season orders being renewed for a second season, but it’s not even remotely the way to bet.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

It’s HeadlessHorseman actually. And the only reason I say ‘going out of business’ is because the CW’s contract with WVTV is up in 2016.

Plus, what about CBS and NBC? They consistently deliver high ratings for Tuesdays and it’s always one of those 2 networks that wins the night.

  • Carl

They do reset the index for the most part in January. Basically the fall index is very useful for new shows that do so badly they get cancelled fairly quickly, and as a general guide on how the shows are doing. But if a show makes it through to the second half of the season, history has shown the networks become much more concerned with how they do in the January-May period.

SUPER FUN NIGHT and GOLDBERGS are very likeable sitcoms. Not perfect and not enough laughs but still very entertaining.
Not every sitcom can be like The MIDDLE. Probably one of the most consistently funny family shows I have ever watched. Pretty impressive for a long running sitcom.

  • KJ Styles

People who are predicting SHIELD and OUAT will get cancelled next year are idiots. SHIELD is the 3rd highest rated show on ABC, and OUAT gets higher ratings than anything on Sundays not named Sunday Night Football or Walking Dead. Neither are ending anytime soon.

  • C Whitty

I understand Back in the Game is cancelled but what I can understand is why when its ratings do not appear that bad????

  • HeadlessHorseman

    @KJ Styles
While it would be idiotic to predict that they’ll be cancelled this year, it is not out of the question that they could be cancelled next year.

  • Adam Decker

I like Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, actually, but I wouldn’t mind any of the one smily shows getting cancelled. The three smilies are always a toss-up, but with so many bad shows this season, they are better than they usually are. Predicting shows cancelled next year are tough, but a high rated show one season can drop suddenly and get cancelled the next. Touch is just one example of that.

More people are watching TV during the 8:30pm half hour than the 8:00pm half hour. If there’s an established show at 8pm and another, stronger, established show at 9pm, the new 8:30pm show should be growing out of its lead-in. When it’s losing the lead-in’s audience instead, that’s a sign that the show should be canceled (even if its numbers are decent compared to the rest of the network).

I’ll miss the Neighbors; it was Monty Python-like fun; I hoped it would be transferred to ABC Family, where I would follow it. As long as they cancel Child-Wife (serial Olivia Goldsmith bad guy left age appropriate professional wife for younger ditz and then left ditz for younger bimbo. Let’s insult modern woman a little more).

  • James

Revenge has to perform at 10:00 or it won’t get renewed ABC will be patient with Shield but I have a feeling, unless they make major changes to the cast, it will be a 2-Season show.

  • Rose

Excuse me….but to that person who said Nashville dropped in quality this season: it is WAY better than the 2nd half of season 1. Maybe ABC should stop messing with the show’s content (get rid of the soapy stuff/bedhopping they’re shoving down our throats) …then it would actually be a BRILLIANT show. But it’s a good show anyway…

  • Fred

I still like Nashville , just not as much a last season. Agreed it was better earlier in season 1,
Some of the storylines and plots are kind of weak this season. Same with the music. Quantity and quality of the songs don’t compare to season 1.
That all said , I still enjoy the performances and cast. With some more exciting storylines and better music, the show can be great once again.
Last season , I complained about Revenge as well. Glad to see it improved this season . Wish ratings improve soon.
Same with OUAT, but still needs improvement .
I’m actually enjoying Wonderland more lately .

  • Jon

@Jeff….for castle to be cancelled next year….three new shows would all have to beat it in the ratings. Also consider more than likely revenge will be in its last year. Its also likely that maos would have fallen lower in the demo as well. Also the syndication deal with Tnt has been lucrative. Castle is a steady show. Barring an epic collapse I could honestly seeing this being a 10 season show.

  • Jon

@kj ……it is not out of the realm of possibilities that maos only sees one season. If it keeps dropping in ratings so does its profitability. Ill admit they will give it more leeway than they gave no ordinary family but if it drops below a 2 in the demo all bets are off.

    Last Man Standing
    Shark Tank

God shield agent is boring, who the hell is keeping that terd alive. What a wast of money and time

  • Alan

Wow, all the shows I like are getting axed, and all the ones I either don’t watch or don’t like are being renewed. You can’t help but feel /a little/ rejected.

  • Steve

Considering this is the second ABC series with that title, hopefully ABC will have learned never to use “The Neighbors” again. I mean even Regis couldn’t save it.

  • Fred

I know I’m in the minority but I’ve been watching BETRAYAL. Never gave up on it despite it being extremely dull in the earlier eps. Much better now. Too little too late.
Also still enjoying OUAT WONDERLAND. Some the latest eps are more enjoyable than the original OUAT.
