The Tomorrow People ratings started strongly. Its premiere 0.9 adults 18-49 rating was above the CW's rating average for the week. Sadly for the show's prospects, its last 3 weeks' 0.6 ratings have dropped it into the relative ratings range that indicates the show could be either canceled or renewed by season end. So, the Cancellation Bear has adjusted his prediction for it to "toss up" between cancellation and renewal. The bear hopes, and somewhat expects, that come spring, and the premiere of two new CW dramas, the relative ratings positions of both Reign and The Tomorrow People will become a bit clearer.

Why is The Carrie Diaries defacto canceled?

Fall premiere shows that receive a 13 episode order (veteran or rookie), and no follow on episodes are canceled. (note, Life Unexpected). There will be no announcement, as always, except the fact that it's left off the schedule announced in May.

With three seasons complete, the CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@starship — I didn’t realize the zombie one was a DC property. That along with the procedural elements certainly move it up the queue.

For the Untitled Avengers one – I don’t know, would you want the old head of the network around? Also the premise – if the lead ‘changes her appearance at will’ does that means different actresses play it? If so, that means the audience doesn’t get to build a relationship with the main character – big reason (in my mind) why Dollhouse didn’t work (even though they all looked like the main character, I never got invested in her). If Joss Wheden can’t do it? Dawn can’t either. Also Revenge and Betrayal and so forth (similar themes) aren’t exactly burning up the airways.

Eva doesn’t, no, but Albert Kim just finished doing Nikita for them.

They have the 100 for a dystopian future story — I suppose if it doesn’t hit, they could try again, but Hunger Games notwithstanding, I just don’t see it as the emerging trend at the moment.Maybe I’m short sighted, or just feel like they need something a bit lighter themed.

    @Restless

In my experience I’ve found that most people who are offended by perceived sexist, racist or otherwise alleged non-PC comments are usually looking to be offended.

For example, you took my personal experience of the situation as an implication of what I deem to be fact. If I thought my personal experience was indeed a fact or evidence of the same then I wouldn’t have bothered asking the question in the first place. That I did ask the question should suggest to you that I wanted to hear other opinions, rather than have mine branded as offensive.

It is a fact that of all my friends, only the two that I know to be gay watch (for want of a better term) the ‘girly’ shows we are discussing. I can’t help that. That’s just how it is. My question was meant to see if that happened to be true for the guys involved in this discussion. That said, even if every guy here who claims to watch TCD actually did say they were also gay, that would not begin to prove that straight guys cannot enjoy a show like TCD. In would, however, at least begin to show evidence of a pattern.

Frankly I think it is as much of a problem NOT being able to make judgements based on sex and sexuality as it is to do so by default. You can’t hope to find the truth if you view the problem from either extreme. Gender and sexuality of course should not be used as a sole guiding light to understanding an individual but to completely ignore who the person basically is (yes, gender and sexuality included) is short sighted, because like it or not they are factors of personality. To pretend otherwise is ridiculous. And throwing out suggestions of bigotry just because somebody dares to suggest that is frankly just as offensive as anything else someone might say.

I was just looking at the Live+7DVR post and it disappeared! I noticed that a couple of the CW#’s didn’t match what I had for final Live+SD on those dates and when I checked and went back, the post was gone.

    @ Melanie

Sara posted the wrong data; it’s corrected now.

  • Melanie

    Thanks, Donna!

  • RS

Thanks for the reference to the Futon Critic. I checked out the pilots. I’d love to see The Painted Girls and Players done well. I’d also watch Tales from the Darkside out of nostalgia, but I agree that the CW probably couldn’t pull that one off. The CW does not appear to understand the concept of irony or TPTB would have been laughing with the critics at a Beauty and the Beast show in which one couldn’t tell the difference in a picture.

  • Ben

Tomorrow people has a .6 it will get renewed.

  • Rebooted

    @ Melanie

    Here’s My List:
    Badlands
    Cross
Hourman but I think it should be a female lead
    Perfectionists
    Players
Corrine Brinkerhoff project (CIA Texas Dynasty project)
Matt Witten/Debbie Allen Project (Fame-esque performing arts school)

  • Rebooted

There’s no Embrace or Vampire Diaries-type project this year!!! :(

  • Rebooted

    I miss the WB.

  • Brandy

@Ben , that’s what everyone said about SC & Ronger with 0.6s and even higher ratings yet they were both cancelled.Just wait to see TTP s spring ratings before saying it’ll be renewed.Reign is doing better than TTP right now and TTP has the most compatabile leadin but hasn’t grown, declined every week the first four weeks and looses half of the most compatible leadin.Wait & see if TTP ratings hold if it’s moved.

  • Brandy

@Ben, also if either or both Midseason shows are hits, TTP is toast. Also, this site says CWs pattern is renewing six scripted veterans and this season those six will be:VD,SPN,TO,Arrow,HoD(for syndication)& right now with Reign outperforming TTP,Reign,

  • Melanie

@RS The Futon Critic is a great site for TV show info.
I really like the premise for both Painted Girls & Players – which probably means neither one will get picked up — LOL

@Rebooted A female lead for Hourman could be really interesting. The CIA one has potential I think — I just liked others better, but Cross just didn’t do much for me. (I miss the WB too)

  • allfrumthei

We’ve seen this story before. BATB, TCD and possibly 100 and Star Crossed with their lack of promotion will all be cancelled and Reign and TTP will get life. How those 2 shows do in the new year will depend on where they are moved next year. If they finished like BATB did last year, I imagine a Monday and Friday lock. Then again they may finally think it makes sense to keep them paired with their lead ins because of the closer connection to their lead ins than BATB did with TVD

  • Mindy Moo

Why are people forgetting about the Flash tv series that CW has in the works? A show that I’m sure they’ll place right next to their bread and butter show Arrow. Plus it makes sense, air the two comic book shows together.

  • Rachel

The Tomorrow People is an awesome show! They don’t need to cancel it! :)

  • JD

The 100 will not make it. It looks like a fraternity & sorority go camping and get lost. Only set in the future.

Just a lot of totally fake, predictable “drama”. Terra Nova part 2.

Too many other good things to watch.

Can the Bear eat shows that haven’t aired yet? I know he’s hungry.
