Last Spring, Raising Hope was renewed for its current, fourth, season, during which it will reach the 88 episode level that seems to be the minimum these days for extra profitable stripped syndication. That doesn't mean that this had to be its final season, were its ratings good, it could have evaded the Cancellation Bear for years. Unfortunately for the show, its fractional premiere ratings on Friday make it certain to be canceled this season.

Almost Human started just fine on Sunday following the late NFL game. An hour of the cancellation bear sleeping could start just fine on Sunday following the late NFL game. Let's see what happens in the coming weeks.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I guess only if Fox decide to move Raising Hope back to Tuesday at 8 it has a chance of survival. I’m not raising my hope in that happening :(

Just incredibly annoying that Dads, a dead show airing, is taking up a slot where Raising Hope may have had a chance.

  • James

And Enlisted will premiere after Raising Hope. Oops.

  • Nope

    love HOPE don’t go

  • Bay

Poor Fox, they deserve everything they get or should I say, ratings they don’t get.

  • David4

Get rid of Dads and Mindy (that shouldn’t have had a second season) and move Hope back.

  • Jeff (Canada)

I would LOVE it if Fox made a show called When Cancellation Bears Attack. I’d watch every week!

Hope doing so poorly means Brooklyn Nine Nine has a better shot at renewal, which is fine with me. Raising Hope has had 3 great season, and season 4 so far is pretty consistent, so I’d be glad with it ending this year.

  • ludotv

I am still rooting for Mindy though I do not have a hugely number-driven argument…. Mainly because I want to continue watching (it is one of the half-decent comedies out there IMO) but also because with so many comedies failing at Fox and across the networks, Mindy is not doing awful (some are close to 1.0 in their first season) and I believe it attracts a viewership that is attractive to advertisers (women, and amongst them those with a higher disposable income).

  • Dan S

I’d hold off on any hopes that Almost Human will return. Last night it received a 2.2 which is quite a drop from its 3.1 in its premiere.

  • omabin

I agree with the RH prediction. Other than that, I would put Almost Human on the bubble and Dads as likely cancellation instead of certain. I would also downgrade Bones to likely renewal, not certain.

  • Scandalicious

Unfortunately I think this will be the final season for Raising Hope. On the more positive side, that give Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Mindy Project a better shot at renewal. I still think Fox is going to end up canceling the X Factor this year (or at least scaling it back) so that will leave a couple of extra hours of original programming. Almost Human doesn’t look to be a hit for FOX… Sleepy Hollow reigns supreme!!!

  • Networkman

Not that it makes too much of a difference but I really thought Raising Hope would end up with 90 episodes at the end of the season. I believed FOX had order 2 additional episodes last season that didn’t air. So I was hoping that would get added on to the 22 full episodes this season for Raising Hope.

I’m really not happy with FOX’s scheduling. If they plan on getting rid of American Dad! anyways, why not put that on Friday after Bones. And then air Raising Hope after Family Guy to see how it would perform.

  • PurpleDrazi

    Raising Hope :-(

  • THE OLD MAN

I want to hold out hope for RH, but it would probably be in vain. ONO!!

  • TJ

Aww, this headline made me so sad. But I’m grateful I got four seasons out of the show, so if this is the end, oh well, I’ve really enjoyed it.

  • omabin

I don’t think FOX should bother premiering Enlisted on Fridays. What’s the point? The show would pair very nicely with B99 IMO. I think they should send Dads to Fridays and air Enlisted at 8h30. Give B99 the anchor slot at 8.

  • davejostef

Well, shuffling off to Friday was a “clue” it wasn’t going to go well for Raising Hope this year. Bummer…

  • starship

Too bad for RH, but it was clear where things were headed even last year when the show got banished to Fridays. I really liked Almost Human, but it’s Monday ratings aren’t anything to brag about, I’d still hold off the cancellation predictions some people are making for now as FOX have bigger fish to fry, i.e. no hit comedies (including New Girl as of recent weeks), X Factor bombing, Glee bombing (and they have another season of it coming), etc.

  • Dan

Raising Hope is definitely done, and things don’t look good for Enlisted either. Shame, it would have paired well with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I would have hoped for a final 13 episode season for RH but since FOX didnt do that with The Cleveland Show, and RH will enter syndication next fall, then its as good as done.

Almost Human had a good debut and a solid Monday episode, but its real test is how it will do in the upcoming weeks.

Bones will be renewed, low friday ratings or not, for a tenth and final season. FOX should renew Family Guy soon, but why havent they, not a clue.

  • Dave

How is Sleepy Hollow getting ratings? It’s horrible. I gave up midway through the second episode. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is hysterical, Almost Human was okay, and otherwise, you could can the Fox lineup until The Following gets back and I wouldn’t notice.

  • Dan

@Networkman – That depends if FOX ordered a 22 episode fourth season or a 20 episode season. If 20 episodes are produced for Season 4 then it will only have 88 episodes total because FOX knew that the 2 unaired episodes would be added to this season. If FOX produces 22 episodes of Raising Hope then there will be 24 episodes this season and 90 total. I have no idea which they did but we’ll know by March.
