USA has cancelled Necessary Roughness after three seasons. The network released the following statement:

We are proud of this show and its writers, which had a unique ability to address topical subjects before they unfolded in real life on the sports pages. We want to thank Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, the incredible cast led by Golden Globe nominee Callie Thorne and our partners at Sony Television.

    I was expecting this, but I’m still sad. It wasn’t the greatest show, but Scott Cohen and Callie Thorne made it such a fun show to watch.

  • Dan

    I expected this too, the shows numbers dropped after its brief season.

    In the summer I figured this would be cancelled and Graceland would be renewed and I was right.

    However I figured TNT would renew King & Maxwell and cancel Franklin & Bash for that I was wrong.

  • THE OLD MAN

    I expected this, three

    Honestly, they were lucky to get three seasons, the numbers were never that great. USA is having a bit of a rough run lately.

  • Nerdbot

    I still miss Sarah Shahi’s Kate :(

  • Ram510

    Finally USA puts an end to this crappy show

    @Jon

    Why did you expect TNT to renewal King & Maxwell? It’s fate was virtually sealed after week 1’s lackluster ratings

    called it! USA retools then axes EVERY female led show they have had. this started with In Plain Sight, although its retooled vers. staggered around half-dead for a bit, and will hopefully stop with Covert Affairs which has been retooled but may live to see another day.

    @merrranga

    You’re absolutely right. The first eight episode season of NR was pretty good. Then they went ensemble and started rotating storylines every five minutes. That’s when the show lost its character. I didn’t even bother with season three.

  • AniMatsuri

    Yeah, the show seemed to have lost its way after the 1st season and viewership drifted away as result.

    Hate it when a Wire actor gets screwed over. Clarke Peters is probably getting killed off on POI soon, unless he already got killed tonight, haven’t seen it.

  • Cyrax86

    Not surprising but I’m really sad about this. It was the best Summer show by far! Hope Callie Thorne can land a new role soon.

  • Mark

    Not surprised. They changed the show in Season 3. It wasn’t as good.

  • Donald

    never even heard of this show…

  • Cyrax86

    @Donald, You’re missing out, it was a really great show, I recommend catching up with it. I’ll have to settle with Mistresses, Devious Maids and Unforgettable next Summer…

  • BJH

    Does this mean Covert Affairs may see a fifth season? I don’t think USA has announced any renewal yet.

  • Cyrax86

    @BJH, USA renewed it for a 5th season on 10/3.

  • merrrranga

    CA is doing pretty well and i think the retool actually helped the show. they didnt have to lose the sister but i like the more serious tone and Harper is awesome as always.

  • bdhuval

    Wow….I loved this show…..I’m very sad that its off the air…I really liked the cast…
