CHI McBRIDE UPPED TO SERIES REGULAR ON “Hawaii Five-0

CBS announced today that Chi McBride has been upped to series regular on the Friday night series, Hawaii Five-0.  His character, Captain Lou Grover, was first seen in the fourth season premiere this past September, and is based on a character of the same name from the original “Hawaii Five-0” series.  Captain Grover, who recently moved his family from Chicago to Oahu, heads the SWAT unit on the Island.

“Well, I know this sounds corny, but the only thing I ever wanted in my career was to be on CBS, the home of my idol Jackie Gleason,” said McBride.  “I finally made it to the Tiffany Network on ‘Golden Boy,’ shooting scenes on the same stage where ‘The Honeymooners’ was filmed.  CBS graciously invited me to be a member of the cast of Hawaii Five-0, and it’s been wonderful. The cast, crew and production have been so welcoming to me, and so my love affair with CBS continues.”

“After his first guest spot, we knew we had something special here with Chi playing Captain Lou Grover,” says Peter Lenkov, Executive Producer.  “He just fit seamlessly into the fabric of Hawaii Five-0 and viewers are enjoying the spirited, if sometimes antagonistic, interaction between him and McGarrett. We are so thrilled to welcome Chi into our Ohana.”

Now in its fourth season, HAWAII FIVE-0 is broadcast Fridays, (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.  It is a production of CBS Television Studios.  Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are the executive producers.

Good news for H50 fans! Chi McBride has already been a great addition to the cast this season, and series “regular” status can only mean more interesting dynamics for the characters of this show. Congratulations to Mr. McBride …Aloha!

    All right!

Another good reason to keep watching H50

Love the character of Grover and so happy to see another great addition to the cast.

This is great news. I can see Hawaii Five-O inching up closer to the 2.0 demo. This is going to breathe new life into the show. It may can survive another 2 seasons if the scripts continue to be strong and viewers simply find it really entertaining. I really want to see Carol Burnett.

This news is gonna kill Randy!

    :-) ;-)

So glad to see Chi McBride on 5-0. He is an excellent actor. I hate Golden Boy was cancelled. I liked it. When I watched Golden Boy, knowing the ratings were tanking, I kept thinking Chi would be a great lead in a show – he’s too good to be only a secondary character.

This is great news! Chi McBride is one of my favorite actors. Loved him in “Golden Boy,” and was sad that it got canned (though, that was inevitable). I’ve been loving him on “Five-0,” so I’m glad we’ll be seeing more of him in the series. He’s a great addition.

Yay! Great news! Love Chi McBride as Lou Grover and his interaction with Alex/Steve.

In a good or in a bad way? :) ;)

As much as people make fun of Summer Glau for being a show killer, every show post-Boston Public that Chi’s been a regular on has lasted 25 episodes or less: Golden Boy, Human Target, Pushing Daisies, The Nine, Killer Instinct. So Hawaii Five-0 fans might wanna watch out ;-)

But good for him… I’ve always enjoyed him as an actor.

    Love McGrover!

Hawaii Five-O has gone from a bubble show, sent to Friday night to almost certain cancellation, (similar to Vegas), to a program that is clearly headed toward renewal.
It holds it’s own against the competion and only Shark Tank on ABC beats in the 18 to 49 demo.

Excellent, excellent news! Chi is a fantastic addition to the cast. And now if Scott Caan decides to leave, it won’t hurt the show as much.

  • Ralph Hahn

Chi McBride was great as the principal in “Boston Public,” a decade or two ago.

Great news! This show has a vital pulse this season.. strong and entertaining. Was gearing myself to say aloha to the 5-0 with the Friday move, but it has responded big time!! I’m liking what I’m seeing and look forward to more seasons. 5-0 & Blue Bloods? Odd bed-fellows, but oh does it work!
