14TH ANNUAL LATIN GRAMMY® AWARDS REACHES 9.8 MILLION VIEWERS AND MAKES UNIVISION A TOP 3 NETWORK FOR THE NIGHT AMONG BOTH ADULTS 18-49 AND ADULTS 18-34

NEW YORK – NOVEMBER 22, 2013 – The biggest names in Latin music gathered last night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas for the 14th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards, while 9.8 million viewers tuned in to all or part of the three-hour live broadcast on the Univision Network. Last night’s event delivered an average audience of 4.6 million Total Viewers 2+, 2.4 million Adults 18-49 and 1.2 million Adults 18-34 and positioned Univision as the No. 2 broadcast network among Adults 18-34, outperforming CBS, NBC and FOX. It also made Univision the No. 3 broadcast network for the entire night among Adults 18-49, ahead of NBC and FOX.

 

The Latin GRAMMY Awards on Univision attracted more Hispanic viewers in the demographic groups of Viewers 2+ and Adults 18-49 than the combined audience of the 2013 editions of the “Billboard Music Awards,” “MTV Video Music Awards” and the “Country Music Awards.”

 

ADDITIONAL NETWORK HIGHLIGHTS

 

14th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards on the Univision Network:

·         Delivered more Adult 18-34 viewers than the entire line-ups on NBC (“Parks and Recreation,” “Sean Saves the World,” “The Michael J. Fox Show” and “Parenthood”) and FOX (“The X-Factor” and “Glee”) as well as first-run episodes of ABC’s “Once Upon A Time in Wonderland” and CBS’ “The Crazy Ones,” “Two and a Half Men” and “Elementary.”

·         Out-performed all the primetime programs on NBC and FOX among key Adults 18-49.

·         Ranked within the Top 10 programs on all of broadcast television among Total Viewers 2+ and Adults 18-49.

·         Univision stations claimed the No. 1 broadcast program of the day (6:00am-2:00am), with the Latin GRAMMY Awards, in the following markets:

o   Among Total Viewers 2+ in Miami

o   Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston

o   Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami and Sacramento

·         Univision stations also had the No. 2 broadcast program of the day in Los Angeles among Total Viewers 2+; and in Houston and Dallas among Adults 18-34.

·         The broadcast of the special green carpet pre-show “Noche de Estrellas” made Univision No. 1 broadcast station during the time period (7:00pm-8:00pm) in the following markets:

o   Among Total Viewers 2+ in  Miami

o   Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco and Phoenix

o   Among Adults 18-34 Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas,  San Francisco and Sacramento

SOCIAL MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS:

 

The telecast ranked as the No. 1 social broadcast TV program by unique authors and Tweets, delivering more social activity than NFL Football, ABC’s “Scandal” and FOX’s “The X Factor” on Nov. 21. Univision Network also ranked as the No. 1 Social TV network on Nov. 21 across all of broadcast and cable, based on unique authors Tweeting about programs on the network.  According to Nielsen SocialGuide, @LatinGRAMMYs was the most mentioned program account across all of Twitter TV.

 

On Twitter, Carlos Vives, Marc Anthony and Pablo Alborán were among the most mentioned artists of the night with Yandel, Carlos Vives, Pitbull and Wisin being the top celebrity hashtags of the telecast.  On Facebook, top moments of the telecast were Wisin y Yandel reuniting and performing together again after both pursuing solo careers, Pitbull’s performance with Enrique Iglesias and El Cata, as well as Peruvian artist Gianmarco.

 

First-of-its-kind digital and social television integrations at the Awards ceremony allowed fans unique opportunities to connect with their favorite stars.   Fans were also able to Tweet their favorite moments and congratulate the stars throughout the “Noche de Estrellas” and the Latin GRAMMY broadcast as well by sending their questions using the hashtag #LatinGrammy. Fans counted on the latest updates from the show’s social media correspondent and Univision personality, Alejandra Espinoza. Viewers joined the conversation by following @UForiaMusica and @LatinGRAMMYs on Twitter as well as commenting along with others on Facebook.com/UForiaMusica and Facebook.com/LatinGRAMMYs and were updated via Instagram from @UnivisionPremios and @LatinGRAMMYs.   Fans commented about their favorite celebrities using hashtag #LatinGRAMMY across Google+, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or any of their favorite social platforms.

 

Additionally, Univision.com and LatinGRAMMY.com offered backstage live streaming, providing fans unprecedented access with exclusive interviews of the winners immediately after they accepted their awards, hosted by Catalina Mesa and Kike Posadas.
Now in its sixth consecutive year from Las Vegas, this year’s Latin GRAMMY Awards, co-hosted by actors Omar Chaparro and Blanca Soto along with actor/singer Lucero showcased a number of performances by Latin music’s top stars. The night’s performers included: Natalie Cole, Enrique Iglesias featuring India Martínez, Pablo Alborán, Marc Anthony, Banda Carnaval (with Calibre 50); Miguel Bosé, El Dasa with Wisin (of Wisin Y Yandel), Leslie Grace (with Cirque du Soleil — Zarkana) Jesse & Joy Featuring Mario Domm, Natalia Lafourcade, Maluma (with Becky G), Gian Marco, Paquita La Del Barrio (with Mariachi Sol De México), Pitbull (with El Cata), Draco Rosa, Alejandro Sanz (with 29 students from Berklee College of Music), Carlos Vives, Wisin and Yandel; a performance by Juanes, Ricky Martin, and Laura Pausini paying tribute to 2013 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Miguel Bosé; and a special segment celebrating salsa featuring Willy Chirino, 2013 Latin Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Oscar D'Leon, Jose Alberto “El Canario,” Sergio George, Ismael Miranda, and Tito Nieves.

 

The awards show was preceded by the special green carpet pre-show “Noche de Estrellas,” hosted by Giselle Blondet and Chiquinquira Delgado with Raúl de Molina, Rodner Figueroa, and Tony Dandrades, featuring live interviews and providing fashion commentary and Alejandra Espinoza providing social media feedback.
