November Sweep: ABC is Number 1 in Non-Sports Adults 18-49 for the Month & Wins the 10PM Hour

Excluding sports to level the playing field for the NFL-boosted averages, ABC ranks a solid No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6) for the 2013 November Sweep, leading CBS by 11% (1.9/6), NBC by 31% (1.6/5) and Fox by 31% (1.6/4). The Net also holds the top non-sports position with Adults 18-34 and all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).

 

  • Highest-Rated TV Series: Based on Nielsen’s Most Current ratings to include all available TV playback, ABC claims 5 of the Top 15 non-sports broadcast series during November in Adults 18-49, including 2 of the Top 3 dramas (“Scandal” and “Grey’s”): “Scandal” – No. 5, “Modern Family” and “Grey’s Anatomy” tie at No. 6, while “Upon a Time” and “S.H.I.E.L.D.” tie at No. 13. ABC’s “DWTS” is TV’s most-watched unscripted series for the month, outdrawing both editions of NBC’s “The Voice.” In addition, the Net airs 2 of the Top 4 programs for the sweep with Women 18-49, with the Top 2 dramas.

 

  • No. 1 Network in the 10 o’clock hour: ABC is November’s No. 1 network during the 10 o’clock hour on Monday-Friday, as a lead-in to affiliates’ late-local news, beating the No. 2 networks by 24% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 1.7/5-NBC) and by 8% in Adults 25-54 (2.6/7 vs. 2.4/6-CBS). In addition, ABC is up the most in the hour year over year with Total Viewers (+11%), standing as the only net up in Adults 18-49 (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%).

 

  • ABC is 1st or 2nd on 4 of 7 nights of the Week in November in Adults 18-49: Wednesday - No. 1, Thursday - No. 2, Friday - No. 1 and Saturday - No. 2.

 

  • Fastest Growing Returning Series (Most Current Ratings): Surging year to year in Total Viewers (+62%) and Adults 18-49 (+68%), ABC’s “Scandal” is TV’s fastest growing returning series for the November Sweep. In addition, ABC’s Castle” is up 26% in Adults 18-49 as the 2nd-fastest growing returning series for the month.

    Actually, on a website like this — which looks at the tv ratings/averages of SCRIPTED TELEVISION — it is a “thing.” And a fairly interesting one at that. It confirms what a few people have been posting on here for a while — that abc has the strongest lineup of scripted shows on network TV.

    Very interesting.
    Usually these ABC press releases are silly, but this actually makes some sense. ABC does have some very strong entertainment programing.
