Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Negativity is uncalled for Dunk.. There is room for everyone to like their shows and for all shows to do well.

  • Olive.garden

    I agree that all the shows on abc completely mimic one another. They overplayed OUAT with wonderland and never land and the 3 shows Betrayal,revenge etc are branded very similarly. It’s like a song with 3 versions.

  • iSayso

    Maybe once upon a time I will care about OUaT and watch an episode . . . . . . . NOT!

  • HeadlessHorseman

    “All I kept seeing were ads about the midseason finale event for Scandal which does not deserve this amount of advertising being in such a cushy timeslot.”

    Seriously? You’re that desperate? You are just pathetic. However, this kind of desperation was expected. But when you started to trash Walking Dead’s impeccable ratings, I finally realized that the only shows you hate, are ones that are popular on this site. I almost feel sorry for you.

  • Joe

    Just about every show on was crap.

  • Linda E.

    Where are the Live+7 numbers for Week 8?

  • greysfan

    I’m sure we’ll see a 4th season of Once but ABC really did kill it last season and i blame ABC’s programming dept for that. They scheduled it week on week off week on week off and in turn it killed it and Revenge. Such a shame because the past few episodes have been really great too.

    Not to be the contrarian, but I thought the Mentalist reboot stunk. The show has always featured its share implausible twists and turns and ways for Patrick Jane to escape a long stay in the hoosegow, but this one was just too much. The new regulars meant to replace Rigsby and Van Pelt are almost already irritating and uninteresting.

    At this point it looks like the writers are pretty much out of creative juices. All the usual tricks PJ uses to catch criminals are seen from a mile away. And it was clear from the moment the chick on the beach starting chatting up PJ, that she was going to be some government or law enforcement agent that he would be dealing with in the future. The show is too predictable in its stories and they have now removed Jane’s raison d’etre for working with the police. So the hijinks have moved to a different building, a new female boss and a grumpy power-wielding higher-up that is always one step from giving PJ the boot.

    I really used to like this show. When our favorite ex-carny supposedly killed Red John a couple of seasons back and the writers jumped serious hoops to write themselves out of their self-imposed trap, I lost a lot of interest in the program. Afterward the RJ story just became ever more unbelievable and kind of boring. Like get it over already. Then they resolved it in a way that turned out to be such a letdown.

    It’s a Sunday evening crime drama that draws significantly below 2.0 in the demo and is not in the league of TGW in terms of critical acclaim and awards. Just pull the plug on this turkey and let ride off into the sunset of TV history. I’m among those who certainly won’t miss it.

    @Don
    When are they going to get it. Not everyone is a die hard football fan. Not every game needs to be on broadcast TV.

    The football games aren’t going anywhere. The NFL has a deal (worth ~$3.1 billion annually) with FOX, CBS and NBC to keep the Sunday games on the broadcast networks through 2022.

    Even if the broadcast the game. We don’t need the commentary to regurgitate it afterward!

    CBS doesn’t have postgame commentary; when the game ends, they go directly into 60 Minutes after the final block of advertisements runs.

  • Ultima

    @Linda E
    Where are the Live+7 numbers for Week 8?

    Everything is delayed because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • Ultima

    @a p garcia
    CBS should cut an hour from their schedule. Missed one of my fav. TM because of the football overrun

    If they had cut an hour from their schedule, they would have canceled The Mentalist, so you would have missed it anyways! ;)

  • Ultima

    @a p garcia

    Also, how did you “miss” the show? If you can’t stay up until 10:50pm, don’t have a recording device and don’t have on demand or high-speed internet, then how have you been watching The Mentalist the past year and a half?

    For all the complaints on this site about the broadcast dinosaurs not keeping up with modern technology, it’s funny to see someone complain that the networks aren’t catering to people still stuck in the late 80s! ;)

  • Ultima

    @greysfan

    No, they didn’t. You’re just blindly complaining about the scheduling. You don’t actually have a clue how it was scheduled, but you’re pretty sure that it was on/off/on/off, so you’re going with that. It was actually a different scheduling problem that most people were complaining about (not doing on/off/on/off or a hiatus and instead leaving it on against really strong competition).

    If you don’t know how the show was actually scheduled, and subsequently, probably don’t even watch it, then why are you complaining? Are you a bitter fan of one of ABC’s canceled shows (perhaps a daytime soap)?

    Here’s Once Upon a Time’s schedule for last season, by the way…

    Six new eps, AMAs, two new eps, four-week holiday hiatus, three new eps, off two weeks (Super Bowl), two new eps, Oscars, four new eps, three repeat weeks (including recap), four new eps

    Not once last season did they go on, off, on, off.

    :roll:

  • Kate

    Liz most popular character is Regina!!!!

  • Jon

    @don…..are you really asking this? You do realize that nfl games on Sunday afternoons are watched by nearly 30 million people. Like it or not it is the single most popular program on Tv. It makes networks. Billions of dollars and pays the bills so you can be able to watch the mentalist to begin with. No not everyone loves football but there are enough out there that do. If Cbs could I’m sure they would rather air an alternate Sunday night game to compete with Nbc on level ground.

  • JLM

    Speaking of daytime soaps @Ultima, that’s exactly what Once has turned into. It’s like ABC’s version of Passions. Season 1 was basically a procedural and though procedurals are tired out and formulaic they are more accessible to a casual viewer. Once killed themselves with their shoddy writing and stories. The can no longer hide behind scheduling excuses with this season setup.

    @iSayso

    May be if you were smart enought You wouldnt type here … not

  • Theoacme

    @Andrew43: Billy Martins’ schedule – calling it a mess is unfair. He simply hates every person associated with ABC, and wants to see them, and every member of their families, turned into zombies, and gruesomely murdered in TWD…

    …he probably hates puppies and kittens, burns the American, Iranian, AND Chinese flags every day, and keeps a nest of baby cobras and destros in his baby’s crib, too… /sarc

  • diana

    @Eric mcinnnis I agree this method ABC used every promote 2 shows and hreallyave the rest do on their own is really bringing the network a average down I really hope that they fire Paul lee of course,scandal gets high ratings because that’s the only thing ABC ever promotes rather then focussing on their declining shows like once and revenge which were the two biggest hits of 2011

  • jay

    didn’t like the mentalist reboot either, they need to write the rest of this season toward patrick riding off into the sunset, perhaps with lisbon, perhaps not…
