With We Are Men yanked after just two episodes, and How I Met Your Mother in its final season, the other three rookie CBS sitcoms all have a chance at a second season.  The Millers ratings have stayed above CBS's scripted ratings average, and Mom & The Crazy Ones ratings are close enough below that they would typically be renewed. Into that mix, there's some chance that Two and a Half Men falls to the bear in May.

CBS could keep all four of those sitcoms, and still premiere two new sitcoms next Fall if they kept Mike & Molly in reserve to fill into the slot of the first failed rookie sitcom, like this season. Given the current ratings levels of those four shows, it's at least conceivably possible all four get renewed. However, Spring often brings a bit more ratings movement which could separate the relative ratings of those four shows and cause some prediction changes.

Also, Two and a Half Men is in a blind spot of the bear's predictive ability, an old, expensive show with otherwise passable ratings. More than a few of those shows have been consumed when the bear thought they'd escape.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I can see them holding back M&M again next year, and announcing 2.5 Men as their final season next year, much like they did with HIMYM this year.

Hawaii Five-0 seems to have stabalized well enough on Friday nights, I think that’ll get them one more season. I still say The Mentalist is done, and The Good Wife might get one more season.

  • Dan S

Crazy 1’s just might see a 2nd season but it just isn’t funny. H50 has actually gotten better after moving to Fri & should continue to be a good companion to Blue Bloods. GW will likely return while Mentalist will be retired.

  • CBSviewer

The Crazy Ones, The Millers and Mom will all be Renewed but Two and a Half Men will end in May (it’s ratings are OK but it’s now too expensive).

  • Mark

TGW index up .08 this season!
Looking forward to Season 6 and
    some well-deserved Emmys!

  • fringegot5seasons

TGW will fail to be an Emmy contender again this year. If it gets renewed or not, however, will depend on how many drama pilots CBS selects and how confident they are in the bunch.

  • TV Viewer

I hope that the quality of The Good Wife, and the time delay after football overrunns (really bad on the East coast), make it more of a bubble show than a cancellation predicted program.
There should be a place on the schedule for a show that the critics love, even if it’s ratings are lousy.

  • David H.

I see CBS moving Big Bang Theory back to Monday at 9 and cutting the Thursday block to 1 hour.

Monday: Mike and Molly, 2BG, BBT, New Comedy (HIMYF?)
    Thursday: Crazy Ones, The Millers.

Either Two and a Half Men or Moms gets a midseason order. I think Two and a Half Men bows out.

  • Dan

2BG, M&M and Big Bang will all return in the fall and CBS won’t hold Mike & Molly for midseason, that was a big mistake and We Are Men should have never existed.

CBS won’t renew all 3 freshman comedies and I’m convinced the casualty will be The Crazy Ones which is reportedly more expensive being single camera and performing averagely to justify renewal. Two and a Half Men will probably get a final season and Mom and Millers will be renewed for season 2.

  • Pip

I think Mike and Molly will fall with the way they changed her character. She used to be the sane one which played well against all the crazies in her family but now they are all acting the same so I have lost interest.

Perhaps CBS could do something like this next Fall…

    How I Met Your Dad
    Mom
    2 Broke Girls
    Mike and Molly
    CSI

    Tue:
    NCIS
    NCIS Spinoff
    Person of Interest

    Wed:
    NCIS: LA
    New Drama
    Criminal Minds

    Thur:
    The Big Bang Theory
    New Comedy
    The Crazy Ones
    Two and a Half Men
    Elementary

    Fri:
    Undercover Boss
    Hawaii 5-0
    Blue Bloods

    Sun:
    60 Minutes
    The Amazing Race
    Survivor
    The Good Wife

  • Krystaaal

Mom could be renewed, are you serious?! :D I really hope so!! I love Robin Williams & SMG, but the Crazy Ones isn’t that good :/ and I’m pretty sure Beth Behrs already said 2 Broke Girls got a 2 season pick up a few months ago.

  • JW

Never trust a smiling bear. ;-)

  • Bradley

    @tv#1

You kept 2.5 Men and The Crazy Ones over The Millers, a much better rated show. That won’t be what CBS does.

  • BT

    @tv#1

    You forgot about the Millers.

  • Tommy Mickens

Never say never, but with the stellar run of 2.5 Men and the network relationship to Lorre, my guess is that it will not just be unceremoniously “cancelled” if the network can help it. I think it’s more likely that whenever it ends, it will be decided in advance and announced as a “final season” or at least a run of “final episodes”, as a sign of respect and to hopefully capitalise on the PR for higher ratings at the end.

Because of that, I think if 2.5 Men were to end this season, it’d be announced by midseason to capitalise on the fact, which is fast approaching. If they don’t then chances are good it’ll last at least one more season, as long as (a) its ratings don’t completely implode and go down farther that at present and (b) there is no salary falling out during negotiations for next season. I don’t see ratings going down much if any farther from what they are now this season now that it’s already lost the viewers who didn’t like the change of main characters this season, and I can’t see any cast member causing a salary fall-out except possibly Kutcher, but it wouldn’t be unheard of to even replace *him* if need be to get another season or two out of the show, but Cryer has already shown he’s more than willing to accept whatever salary is needed to continue (I think he makes less than Kutcher even though he’s been the star of the show over a decade, and he doesn’t seem to mind).

  • Ram510

I can see Mom Crazy Ones (unfortunately) Elementary and The Mentalist will be canceled. 2.5 Men could join that group as well

  • Wanda

The Crazy Ones is doing better than The Millers when live +7 or live +3 is factored in. I hope the renew all four 2 half Men possibly a finale season. The Crazy Ones is don’t bette than Mom & is the funniest new comedy. The newbies need a change to grow. I’m certain The Crazy Ones will get renewed

  • shogun

    Ram510

Elementary is not getting cancelled over the good wife. It’s ratings are a lot better.

  • greenrun

As someone who watches Two and a Half Men, I can’t see it getting renewed, it has really went downhill this season, and the ratings show it.. I doubt they pay Kutcher that much for another season when they can get those ratings from a freshmen show.
As for Mom, how is that show not cancelled..

  • Carmen

I believe that CBS should try swithching the order of 2 1/2 Men and The Crazy Ones. Both would benefit (slightly)in the ratings.
