Stamford, Conn. – December 4, 2013 – Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints (9-3) host Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers (9-3) in a battle for first place in the NFC South on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Coverage begins with Football Night In America at 7 p.m. ET on NBC.
After starting the season with a 1-3 record, the Panthers have won eight consecutive games and are tied with the Saints for first place in the NFC South. The Saints are coming off a road loss to the Seahawks, but New Orleans is undefeated at home this season and is looking to regain their lead in the division.
Sunday night’s broadcast will be NBC’s sixth consecutive game featuring one or more Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks. The streak began on November 10th during NBC’s Sunday Night Football matchup between the Cowboys and Saints, and continues this Sunday night with Panthers at Saints. Quarterbacks featured in the six games include Drew Brees (2), Peyton Manning (2), Tom Brady, Joe Flacco, and Eli Manning.
Calling Panthers-Saints is seven-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his 28th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 14-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth, who has won the Emmy for Outstanding Event Analyst in each of his four seasons in the Sunday Night Football booth; and Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.
NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football is led by Emmy Award-winning coordinating producer Fred Gaudelli and Emmy Award-winning director Drew Esocoff. Sunday Night Football has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Sports Series for five consecutive years.
Football Night In America, the most-watched pre-game show in sports, is hosted by 25-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas, who will report from the Mercedes-Benz SuperDome in New Orleans, La. Costas will be joined on-site by Michaels, Collinsworth, and two-time Super Bowl winner and Super Bowl XL MVP Hines Ward.
Dan Patrick co-hosts Football Night from NBC’s famed Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Patrick will be joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, Peter King of Sports Illustrated, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN and NBCSports.com, and longtime NFL front office veteran and former NFL Executive of the Year Scott Pioli. Alex Flanagan will report from Candlestick Park in San Francisco on the Seahawks-49ers game.
“They started taking chances, going for it on fourth down… they got bold and started making plays. Cam Newton has been fantastic. Steve Smith is one of the most gritty wide receivers out there. The defense has been the best in football so far.” – Cris Collinsworth
“They are not going to be able to stop New Orleans, but they will hold them down…They have got enough fire power to hang in there with the Saints.” – Tony Dungy on Panthers
“They have a good defense, and Cam Newton has shown a lot of growth and maturity…We know they have a great front seven, but I still have some questions about that secondary.” – Rodney Harrison on Panthers

NEW EPISODES OF FNIA COACH’S CLICKER AND NFL TURNING POINT AIR TONIGHT ON NBCSN
NBCSN’s in-depth coverage of the 2013 NFL season continues tonight with new episodes of FNIA Coach’s Clicker at 6 p.m. ET and NFL Turning Point at 11 p.m. ET.
FNIA Coach’s Clicker, NBCSN’s weekly half-hour NFL studio show hosted by Liam McHugh with Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy and two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, will preview and examine the pivotal matchups in Week 13, including Seahawks-49ers, Bears-Cowboys, Lions-Eagles, and the Panthers-Saints showdown on Sunday Night Football.
FNIA Coach’s Clicker will break down this weekend’s Sunday Night Football game, as Carolina and New Orleans battle for first place in the NFC South. Dungy and Harrison will examine the contrasting styles of Panthers QB Cam Newton and Saints QB Drew Brees, and how Panthers WR Ted Ginn Jr. and Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan could be X-factors in Sunday night’s game. In addition, the episode will dissect the play of Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, and analyze how the Seattle defense will defend 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Coach’s Clicker will also study the key roles Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and Bears RB Matt Forte play in their teams’ offenses, and highlight the athleticism of Lions WR Calvin Johnson and Eagles RB LeSean McCoy.
NFL Turning Point, hosted by Football Night In America’s Dan Patrick, will look back at Week 13 in the NFL and focus on the crucial “turning point” moments that ultimately defined the outcome of some of the week’s most-watched contests.
This week’s episode of NFL Turning Point reviews last week’s AFC West clash between the Broncos and Chiefs. The program analyzes how Kansas City QB Alex Smith and the Chiefs built a two-touchdown lead against the Broncos in the first half. The program then shows how the Broncos adjusted by shifting away from the running game, and how Denver QB Peyton Manning exploited the Chiefs secondary in the second half with big passing plays, including three touchdown passes WR Eric Decker, to come away with a 35-28 win.
The program also reviews Sunday’s Cardinals-Eagles game. Turning Point studies Philadelphia’s focus on finding its tight ends in the passing game, which combined for all three of the Eagles’ touchdown receptions in the game. The episode also examines how the Cardinals made adjustments at halftime to stage a second-half comeback, which ultimately fell short after Cardinals S Tyrann Mathieu’s holding penalty negated Eagles QB Nick Foles’ interception late in the fourth quarter.
This week’s program will also feature audio from Colts DE Cory Redding, who was wired for sound during Indianapolis’ 22-14 win over the Titans.
