Wow with the return of Robin on GH you would think it wouldn’t be going down.GH has been so good. Congrats B&B..

  • mrjlbrown

so, do these ratings include live+3 or live+7.
im very curious to know if so. if not, where can those numbers be found?
many ppl like me dvr their favorite show. GO GH!!!!

  • Lisa

@mrjlbrown, at the top of the post, it says, “Numbers are based on Live+Same Day ratings.” I’m not sure where you might find live+3 or live+7 figures; maybe someone else can help with that?

I’ve really been enjoying GH lately: Robin’s return, the Jerome story, Anna-Robert-Luke in action, Silas and Sam, and I’ve even become a fan of Duke now.

Nice week for B&B, and all soaps are up in the demo over last year.

  • Bart

These are the rating from nearly two weeks ago – she didn’t show up until this week.

  • robert

Lovin B&B right now. Also good to see Y&R up in the demos.

  • Jen

Go B&B! It’s been so good and I am absolutely loving it right now. Wyatt and Quinn have been great additions and now we have Ridge and Steffy’s return to look forward to. Can’t wait!

  • jonboy

It seems that generally there is one week when most shows have this dramatic drop and then, poof!, the next week they bounce back. I don’t get it.

  • Derrick

    Congrats B&B!
All soaps are up year to year which is good!

  • Mike

This has been typical sweeps for soaps for awhile. Up one week and down. And typical for not just sweeps. If you will look at ratings trends for awhile — even the lady at SON who does the ratings says so from time to time — if a show has a big week now it is usually followed by a down one.

Soaps have a lot of fans who tune in for climaxes of stories. Those type of fans have been around for years and years. It is just now the loyal fans who watch day in and day out are fewer. So the drops are bigger and more noticeable.

As to the Live plus 3 and Live plus 7 — they are not published a lone anywhere. They are included in the Season to Date ratings. Look at those at SON (use link above) and you will see how the shows are doing with the DVR ratings added in.

Also notice there that SON is now reporting the 25-54 demo too.

Well as I have said many times. It is just a matter of time before B&B surpassed Y&R. Very soon. The Bells sold Y&R to sony to afford to keep ownership of B&B and now Jill Farren Phelps has destroyed Y&R. Y&R is an unrecognizable mess. Congrats to B&B and loving DAYS.

  • PatF

Glad to see all are still up over LY.

The ratings that come out this week, hopefully on Friday will be for Thanksgiving week. YR only had Mon-Wed original episodes. It’ll be interesting to see the ratings for the classic episode and Jeanne’s tribute as well.

    @MudwesternMary. Y and R is going down!

  • Midwestmary

I have a theory.I think the brass at CBS hired JFP to purposely make their top soap cheaper and more vulnerable so they can destroy the genre. I am sure people may disagree and I mean no disrespect but look at her history.

  • Mike

The brass at CBS didn’t hire Phelps — SONY did. And Sony is the one that is keeping her there.

Sony is the same company that took one star off Y&R and put her on Days. CBS would have never done that. That is a show on a rival network.

If they hired Phelps to make the show worse, then why did the Bells hire MAB and keep her there even after she began to destroy the show and bring the ratings down.

Y&R’s rating troubles started way back with Latham and continued to worsen with Bell.

Phelps ratings are higher than MAB’s were and now Phelps has been there over a year and her ratings are higher than when she started. Plus she has gotten rid of several big salaries with the folks she fired. The ratings will have to get a whole lot worse before they panic and fire Phelps.

If CBS wanted to destroy the genre why in the world would they put both Y&R and B&B as the prime spots in their lineup on a new station they bought. They are both now reaching more viewers than they were reaching this time last year.

  • Midwestmary

Thanks Mike. Appreciate the info. I just find the show unrecognizable under Phelps, and unwatchable. I also disliked Latham but didn’t mind MAB. None compare to the writing pre Latham. Do you like Phelps? I am unable to watch now. Very depressing. I divide my time between DAYS and B & B.

  • Dianne

Sorry everyone here is reading the ratings wrong for BB.

They are 3rd in the only demographic that the networks care about, the 18-49 group. Also, somewhere else I read that they only got a measly 0.5 for the 18-34 age group.

Also, BB has benefited from the cancelled soaps. A soap where the lead character plays the same material for 26 years is drivel.

  • Mike

I have no more problems with the current Y&R than I did with Latham and MAB. I have not fully enjoyed Y&R in years. I don’t see this version any worse or any better. Y&R hasn’t been the Y&R I grew up with in a long time. I just don’t see the mistakes that Phelps and her gang are making as any worse than those that Latham and MAB made.

For years now with Y&R I have enjoyed seeing certain characters and enjoyed a few stories here and there, but there has not been any sustained period of time that I have fully enjoyed the show.

The one thing I do know is that even though I find the show boring at times now it is still not as boring as that long drawn out story of the reliquary or something like that with Brad when Latham was with the show. That was the most boring story ever and I never fully understood what they were searching for.

  • Mike

B&B has been bouncing between 2nd and 3rd in the 18-49 for most of the year. Did you not notice that Y&R and B&B were the only two shows to add viewers in the 18-49 category? It wasn’t much and they could lose them all again next week.

In the 18-34 they have pretty much always been lower in that category, but I mean it is not like all the shows are light years ahead of it in the 18-34. Days, Y&R and GH tied at 0.7 and B&B got a 0.5 in the 18-34.

And I just read a story at TV Guide online that says that CBS is now paying less to license both shows so with both shows being up in ratings and them paying less to air them now that is a definite plus for both shows.

None of these ratings for any of the shows are anything to brag about, but they are what they are.

  • Midwestmary

Thanks for your perspective. I agree that it was a great show more than 3 regimes ago. It just reminds me now of Guiding Light under her when I stopped watching. I think she came along after Pam Long and I stopped watching that show forever after. I feel line JFP is following me. I have now switched to Days and B and B for the time being.

  • Mike

Oh Mary, one more thing. As far as depressing maybe it is because I grew up watching Y&R from the beginning. I do find some of the topics dealt with like a child’s death to be heavy handed but to me that is the way Y&R has always been.

I was recently watching some of the old 70’s episodes again on You Tube and Wm. Bell used to write some of the darkest stories ever. I mean the man dealt with breast cancer and a daughter basically telling her mother she hated her and then the mother almost dying. Sisters that hated one another. A young virgin raped. A mother who hated her daughter-in-law so much she committed suicide to frame her. And later teenage alcoholism that resulted in the death of a young father. And so many other things.

Bell’s Y&R could be depressing at times too. The biggest difference was that his characters were more defined and fans loved them more.
