Great Writing+Great Acting=Great Ratings. Congrats to GH for a very impressive week! — Actually congrats across the board as every show posted impressive holiday week numbers. Hopefully they don’t all dive back down in the week following Thanksgiving and can maintain at least some of this uptrend.

  • chrissy

well, for me i remember the week of the new year is when all soaps use to surge these rating have to do with great storytelling and I believe that these shows can continue to rise.. also… B&B hit 4 mill on wed…??? crazy!! that’s my mothers fave show… great for all… hope the upswing continues for all shows… gh should hit a 2.6 or 2.7 for next monday…

  • James

I hope these ratings stay up! Or not much of a drop.

  • Mike

Good job to the 4 soaps. Glad to see all up in total viewers and some up in the various demos.

With Y&R it is a mixed blessing for me to see the ratings up. The fan in me wants the ratings to go up for the show, but I also don’t want to see things like making Dylan Nikki’s son, and some of the other bad choices rewarded.

But that is the life of a soap fan these days.

And James, I agree with your statement I hope they do stay up and not experience a big fall. Short weeks for the ratings can be a mixed bag. Many times the shows do fall the following week when Thursday and Friday are thrown back into the picture.

  • Midwestmary

These numbers are amazing. I have stopped watching Y&R but to see these shows that air in the daytime with decent ratings for a prime time show I am thrilled. I thought GH was about to be dead and just a year later they have turned things around. Comeon DAYS!

  • Jeff

Great for all the soaps. GH at a 6 year high! YR over 5 million 3 days in a row! B&B at 4 million for a show! Days pushing upward. Soaps are back!!!!

  • Marissa

Great news for the soaps all around!

I’m especially thrilled for GH. It’ll probably take a nice tumble, though. (just being realistic)

  • Mike

Holidays are always a mixed bag for the soaps. Sometimes up and sometimes down.

Last year the soaps had a bad week for Thanksgiving. Every soap was down except for Y&R and it only rose a little bit and Days was up in one demo. Everything else had negative numbers.

The next week after Thanksgiving they all went up esp. in 18-49. Then they crashed the next week.

This time of the year you just never know.

The recent cold weather and snow should play in the soaps favor as more people are at home. Just hope they watch the soaps when they are.

In the coming weeks we should begin to see what effect the loss of SoapNet might have on the soaps. GH and Days should see an increase in daily numbers or at least their season to date numbers as people either have to start watching them live or DVRing the ABC show since they won’t be available on SoapNet anymore.

And I hope that we hear something about how B&B is doing on TVGN.

  • Edward

These are encouraging numbers for soaps. Only 4 left I pull for all four. Even though I’m not the biggest GH. It was always my 4th fav. With these #’s the networks must be stoked. To get these numbers everyday is amazing.

  • Derek

General Hospital is my show!! Come on GH!!!

  • Derrick

Oh wow………..I’m impressed with these numbers.
Congrats Y&R for hitting over 5 million viewers and GH for hitting over 3 million viewers!

  • Midwestmary

I agree with Mike. While I am thrilled to see Y&R hit these amazing numbers. These numbers beat a large portion of prime time shows including all CW shows. Still I hate to see what I consider bad writing rewarded. That said, it looks like soaps are here to stay for a while so maybe Y&R can win me back. I was never a DAYS fan but I am now divided between days and B&B. I think I will support GH and give them another try. It was my grandmas show so there is some sentimentle value to see it doing well. : )

  • PatF

Wow! Great increases for all the shows.

The 18-49 demo isn’t showing a lot of movement (who cares), but the increase in total viewers is amazing. Maybe this will change the way advertisers look at Daytime TV. Or maybe it SHOULD change the way they look at it!

  • moshane58

Great to see high ratings for all soaps…

  • Elroy J Newark

These ratings are great. And they are up there with pt shows. Maybe the budgets will increase.

  • TruGH Fan

Would have been nice if people watched GH before it became popular again. We needed you a year ago! Where were you when we needed you?

  • tj

@patF If advertisers are confident that the 18-49 crowd are the ones out doing most of the shopping then that’s who they want their target audience to be. I am happy that viewership is up. I think the best thing that can do is get more people talking about the soaps and maybe bring in more viewers younger and older. Not to beat a dead horse, so don’t get on me Mike, but I think the original OLTL and AMC might have stood a chance on the cw Primetime line up say Mondays, their worst night and Fridays. That’ll be 2 hrs a week or 4 30 min shows. But I know it’s too late but Damn I really miss OLTL. OK back to reality.

Great news for GH hitting that 6 year high!
GH needs to keep Tristan Rogers (Scorpio)around and give him a storyline. I really think the Faison/Anna/Robert/Obrecht/Duke powerhouse was more of the ratings bump reason than milk toast Robin.
The Jeromes are great as is the new Carlos character.
I’m even liking Franco and glad that Heather and Scott are his parents. Should give more depth to the character.
Mercifully, Morgan and Kiki have not been in the spotlight lately.

  • robert

Great news for the soaps. Y&R has really gotten good lately.

  • TruGH Fan

The topic is GH hitting 6 year highs people.
