Even though the Cancellation Bear hasn't predicted The Good Wife as anything below a "toss up" to be canceled or renewed in at least three years (longer than the bear has been using the "toss up" designation) its crazy fans "remember" otherwise, claiming each season that "You predict it will be canceled every season and are always wrong!". Nope, it's the crazy who are  wrong.

Some of that is simple confusion. The Bubble Watch does currently predict The Good Wife will be canceled, and the difference between BW and the cancellation bear isn't always clear. For reference: different writers, different predictions, same website.

Those who aren't confused with Bubble Watch, and just remember wrong? The bear's memory is bad too, that's why he writes things down. The crazy? Apparently not.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I don’t watch Good Wife but feel it has another season in it. The veteran series that will end is Mentalist. Now if Intelligence does well then perhaps TGW better watch out for the bear.

  • Jeff (Canada)

It’ll be interesting next season to see how much of a shift occurs once HIMYM is gone. Right now it’s boosting the average rating of CBS’s shows, but once that’s gone the average (and therefore the cancellation bar) will be lower, especially for comedies. So would something like We Are Men have had a better shot next year than this year?

  • Jack

Unless The Good Wife’s ratings absolutely crater come spring, I think it will get renewed. There was that syndication deal, so more episodes would mean more money. Also, it’s the only broadcast drama that gets awards show buzz.

  • abc

I just started tuning into Good Wife this season and enjoy it so much that i’m renting past season dvd’s to catch up. Hope it’s renewed!

  • Christian

So basically you dedicated an entire post on this site towards flaming the people in the comments section who claim that you predict it to be cancelled, even going as far as calling them crazy?

Alrighty, goodbye TVBTN, you’ve officially lost it.

  • Ccemerson

@ ABC Hulu has the first 4 seasons , check it out. It’s a good deal for $8 per month :-)

  • THE OLD MAN

THE GOOD WIFE is the best show on the nets–BAR NONE!

Being the biggest “crazed fan” of THE GOOD WIFE, I have been able to keep the R/C index separate from BW without even taking my meds!

LONG LIVE THE GOOD WIFE & Mr G!

  • Jamey

the editors of this site are so rude to its readers. I dont see how you have any readers, in fact I dont know why I rarely frequent this place. I guess I like to see your creative article titles that are only out to get more views. This site has come pathetic. Now Im going to go sit and quietly wait for one of the editors or their little cronies to come back and be all ” well Jamey, you dont know tv bizz, blahblahblahblah superfunnightiscanceledandthereisntanythingyoucando blahblahblahblah”

  • abc

@ Ccemerson, thanks. I’m actually getting em at my local library down the street for free. They have all first four seasons. :)

It was the promos that aired this season that reeled me in and i’m glad I started watching.

  • Gregg

Maybe TVBTN should have said “crazy fans, bless their hearts”. That’s what we say in the South to take the edge off a little! lol

  • abc

I also have to ask, why is the writer of this article rudely calling the fans of the show “crazy”? Am I missing something? An inside joke of some sort???

  • Mary

Yeah, making fun of people who frequent the site is not cool. It’s done a lot here though in the aim of being cute, I guess.

@ABC, he’s not calling fans of the show crazy. He’s saying that people who incorrectly call him out on something are crazy.

  • Erin

Wow, condescending much? I’m a fan of The Good Wife and I’m certainly not “crazy.” You guys know you wouldn’t even have a functioning website without hits from readers, right? Keep insulting the people who come to you and you won’t have any soon.

  • Stop-Colin-Me

He’s not calling The Good Wife fans crazy, he’s calling the fans that accuse him of things he has not done crazy. Calm down people.

  • ludotv

I am a ‘crazy’ TGW fan and I tend to expect it to get cancelled as ratings have been weak for a while and it already got to the magic syndication numbers… Still, I will dance with the cancellation bear a victory dance if TGW comes back… It is a quality show in the midst of network mediocrity so happy to continue watching until CBS has enough…

  • Erin

    @ Stop-Colin-Me

I’m aware of that, but I don’t think that really excuses it. Gorman is continuously rude to the readers here. It’s very unappealing.

  • Christian

    @ Jamey

It’s been pathetic ever since they started Fan Excuse Bingo. It’s a TV site where flaming each other in the comments section is the site’s only remaining breath of air after other sites started getting the ratings information. In fact, it appears that the Fan Excuse Bingo is mainly just a slightly better way to tell people in the comments on this site that they are idiots, which is also not very nice when you own a website. The titles are the only reason I stay here. The titles are inventive, but the authors here are some of the rudest and most arrogant people I have ever talked to, and this article and its title only proves that. That’s why I try to comment as little as possible, but sometimes, the need to comment is just too strong, like now. This article might’ve been what I needed to permanently stop reading this site, though, as soon as this thread becomes outdated.

  • gerry

perhaps the confusion for some people (not me, i know its ‘technically’ been classified as a toss up on THIS list) is not because of where you have it listed, but because of all of the cancel headlines the site uses to generate pageviews. but condescending to your users who provide said pageviews probably just makes you look bad. (i’ll also note here that i was a ‘crazy fan’ that said tcd would get renewed last year.)

but anyhow – cbs owns TGW, it has buzz, will garner the net multiple nominations this year and likely a few wins, AND has a huge syndication deal. it probably doesn’t really deserve to be listed incorrectly anywhere on the site.

    LONG LIVE THE GOOD WIFE!

  • abc

@Mary, thanks for the clarification…it still seems childishly unprofessional to create such a headline.

  • Jeff (Canada)

I guess there are now 2 types of crazy fans:

    1. The type that said he said something he didn’t.
    2. The type that doesn’t understand he’s not talking about all Good Wife fans being crazy.
