Even though the cancellation bear hasn't predicted The Good Wife as anything below a "toss up" to be canceled or renewed in at least three years (longer than the bear has been using the "toss up" designation) its crazy fans "remember" otherwise, claiming each season that "You predict it will be canceled every season and are always wrong!". Nope, it's the crazy who are  wrong.

Some of that is simple confusion. The Bubble Watch does currently predict The Good Wife will be canceled, and the difference between BW and the cancellation bear isn't always clear. For reference: different writers, different predictions, same website.

Those who aren't confused with Bubble Watch, and just remember wrong? The bear's memory is bad too, that's why he writes things down. The crazy? Apparently not.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Hey Ultima I”am sorry but u know that their”s a whole lot of shows that have age so NCIS has been on for over a century CBS Network has new shows every year it”s time to give something else a try & it”s very costly to produce.

  • Eric McInnis

Quick question: Does having critical acclaim or nominated for an Emmy really buoy a network’s decision in renewal or cancellation?

I like The Good Wife. It’s a very high quality show, especially by broadcast standards. That said, this thread proves that, for whatever reason, it has some of the most obnoxious fans of any show on TV (the internet-dwelling ones, anyway). Good lord, people.

as a fan of TGW , i am crazy. what is the bar on being cancelled?. didn’t breaking bad cancel itself?. when someone dies , do they just die or did life cancel them?.good wife is in its 5th year , my feeling is it will run til the lead feels like it’s time to end the show. 8-10 million in a tough time slot is nothing to get rid of.

    @ eric

if you are comparing ratings of tgw to say, ncis, then no. critical love would be in no way a factor and the multiple noms it just got wouldn’t either.

however, ncis is already a lock for renewal. if tgw is being compared to other shows that have approx the same demo (mentalist, h50, blue bloods) then other factors would have to be taken into account.

The Good Wife has always been a bubble show, but it’s consistently the best of the CBS Bubble Shows. This is the final season of the Mentalist. Unfortunately, it dragged its Red John thread out 2 seasons too long.

They should have just wrapped it up in the Season Finale this year instead of this desperate “New Beginning” garbage to try and salvage the series.

Besides, the Cancellation Bear has ALWAYS predicted that the Big Bang Theory would be cancelled, and it keeps getting renewed! :D

Well, it’s not the ONLY broadcast drama w/awards buzz.

Kerry Washington is the only drama actress with both Sag + Globe noms, for example.
And James Spader just got a Globe nom.

Where we can vote to save out lovely show
