To those who'll claim the Cancellation Bear has run out of CW topics just before the holiday lull begins, the bear pleads "guilty as charged"!

The CW is up season to season among adults 18-49. Not only is that a milestone for them, it's a big deal for any US broadcast network.

Yet, even with that success, some desperate fans can still find ways to justify the renewal of a show like Beauty & The Beast which is averaging just a 0.30 adults 18-49 rating this Fall, vs. a 0.68 adults 18-49 rating last Fall, down 56%.

Desperation, it's the mother of invention! And Fan Excuse Bingo!

Why is The Carrie Diaries defacto canceled?

Fall premiere shows that receive a 13 episode order (veteran or rookie), and no follow on episodes are canceled (see Life Unexpected). There will be no announcement, as always, except the fact that it's left off the 2014-15 schedule announced in May.

Why is Hart Of Dixie certain to be renewed?

With three seasons complete, the CW syndication gods will demand that Hart Of Dixie be renewed for a fourth season. Maybe it'll be a short one like Nikita's, or maybe not. The bear doesn't get into predicting episode orders.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @justsomebody
The change of night maybe, then again, it would at least be getting close to its first season’s L+7 ratings in L+7, but it’s not. The change in the show’s direction has nothing to do with the ratings, though, they’ve been the same since it came back in October, before people knew about the new direction…I actually think that if they hadn’t hired a new showrunner and rebooted the story it would be doing even worse now, not that there’s much room for that.

In regards to above schedule, I don’t believe that both Flash and the Supernatural spin-off will be picked up (though maybe). Only because then 6 shows out of 10 would be related to another show and that would seem sad to me. However I think that if one is picked up, this is where they’d go.

Flash on Mondays with Supernatural as a lead out to make it a hit just as it did for Vampire Diaries, Arrow, and now The Originals. Obviously I can’t prove that Supernatural is the reason these three are hits, but it’s a cool trend.

Moving Reign to Vampire Diaries also-hot sister show is the next best thing for it. I’m sick of shows following the Vampire Diaries only to be renewed and thrown away somewhere else to die. It might as well exist after The Originals.

If Supernatural gets a spin-off, it’ll premiere either after Arrow or The Vampire Diaries, just as Supernatural once did. I’m assuming it’ll be a 9:00 show and it can’t be on the same night as Supernatural, because even if it was an 8:00 show it’d be weird for it to lead IN to its parent show.

Also I can’t guess exactly where The 100/Star Crossed will fit in. But if either reaches success I’m guessing they’ll appear somewhere like this.

I think the schedule should be this:
    Mon SPN spinoff. SPN
    Tues

    We’d Arrow Flash
Thurs VD TO. TO had the best retention out of VD of any show in a few years I think and TO should be prepped to be VD sucsessor when VD ends I a season or two
    Fri ANTM Reign/CD
    HoD

It is too soon to tell whether Tomorrow People or Reign will get renewed. Only till March is when we will know for sure, but from the looks of things Reign has the lead.
As for next year’s schedule, I think they should not put a new show behind Vampire Diaries. As it is proven that no shows can retain from it, so I think if they do renew one of the two shows, it should behind Vampire Diaries. Or if they do decide have a new show, it should only be the Supernatural spinoff.

Speaking of misogynists, have you seen Vincent this season? I mean, kidnapping and holding cat prisoner, violence against her, cheating on Cat.. I can go on and on. Ummm, hello? Vincent went from model puppy dog in season 1 to a huge misogynist in season 2.

There was an outcry on tumblr after episode 2 (Kidnapped) and a lot of mulifandom shippers dropped the show. They made Cat shoot Vincent because he’s such douche. There’s no fix for this show. You can’t have them go back as a couple. Good number of people want him to die now. That’s hilarious. He’s the title character from a show selling romance and people just hate him, as they should. That’s just funny. Brad Kern is just gross for okaying these story-lines.

I find the behind the scene of this series entertaining. There’s lots of twitter mishaps from the writers and the crew. Twitter should be banned from the crew.

Cancel cancel cancel! Didn’t they promote this show as having strong female characters and womencentric? So embarrassing.

Barring a “the online numbers are so good” like Gossip Girl or being renewed because of it’s predecessor’s legacy a la 90210 miracle, I know The Carrie Diaries is done. =(

I understand that genre television (monsters and super heroes) is proving to be what brings in viewers for the CW, but I wish they could find their own Dawson’s Creek/Felicity/Gilmore Girls.

Some variety from the vampires, demons, super heroes, and coming soon aliens makes sense in theory, but not by the numbers.
