Declining each week, the ratings for Almost Human fell to a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating last Monday. That ratings tumble, plus the schedule rejiggering to remove Almost Human from the nights of both the Sleepy Hollow finale and The Following premiere indicate that the show is now at best a "toss up" to be canceled or renewed.

Monday night shows with rapidly changing ratings pose a unique dilemma for the bear. Sometimes his prediction becomes outdated minutes after it's made. (The ratings for last night were not known when this was written and are not reflected in the prediction, or the numbers in the table above.) As always, further changes in a show's relative ratings mean more prediction changes. Stay tuned.

Why is Dads "defacto canceled"?

Rookie shows that have their episode orders reduced, and their scheduled air dates end in February, have been canceled.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2014
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

It’s too bad for Almost Human that has actually improved since the pilot. I don’t see either RH or Dads getting saved but if X-factor is axed I think Mindy may be spared.

  • Jeff (Canada)

Renewing Mindy is essentially renewing it for 2 seasons, so does Fox want to invest in another 2 years of low ratings? The mixed-up February Tuesday shuffle will be very telling.

  • Dagonmar

In my opinion, until there is an official cancellation should not be advertised as a cancellation and therefore “Dads” should he continue as certain to be cancelled

  • Max Vrany

@Dagonmar, Networks don’t gain anything from publicly announcing cancelations, so they rarely do.

  • zack

Move Almost Human to after the 4 oclock games on sunday or a different night

  • Jessica

well, Almost Human is up this week (1.7 to 1.8) but there was pretty much nothing on tv so they might be down next week.. Which is sad ’cause it’s a good show IMO. But it’s on FOX so yeah they might cancel it

  • were123

Almost Human got a 1.8 last night, so there’s some hope. If it stays in that range it will be renewed, but if it gets a 1.6 or lower, then it’s probably a goner. Hoping for Almost Human to succeed though

  • Pants on Fire

I like Almost Human. It is a little different. I love the soundtrack or lack of and the sound environment they have created that keeps you in the world that they have created without some randomly place current pop hit that distracts from the overall feel of a show. This show might be a better fit for SyFy if FOX decides to pull the plug on it. Either way it goes I will be watching until it is not longer available.

  • THE OLD MAN

I’m thinking AH won’t be back for S02.

  • Steph Scott

I had no idea Almost Human wasn’t doing well. I love it! It felt like a solid, cohesive show from the start, which I can’t say for many shows. The leads and supporting cast are all excellent. Wow, I will be disappointed if this show goes away.

The Mindy Project is one of my favorite newer shows. It fits perfectly with the New Girl and Brooklyn 9-9 line up. I didn’t know this show was struggling so hard either; I need to pay more attention to the ratings posts!

  • John B

The show keeps getting better. With all the garbage on TV, this show should not be cancelled. The cast is great, the story plot keeps you interested. Give this show a chance.

  • RDS

Chiming in to say I really like Almost Human. I do hope its numbers comtinue to improve and it sticks around.

  • Poppy

The trouble with Almost Human is that it’s nothing new. If you like sci fi, shoot em up, flying cars, its a win for you, otherwise it’s more of Saturday morning kiddie tv. I was a slow started on Sleepy Hallow but now see the humor and mythology in it. Glad it will make it to season 2.

  • Dan

Almost Human will get no back 9. Theres no room and its ratings aren’t Mob Doctor low but aren’t worth investing more episodes in. It’s capped 13 episode order will end in February and if Fox is smart they will hold Bones until that slot is free in March and premiere Kitchen Nightmares in Jan at 8. Bones should never air on another Friday.

  • Joseph A

With Carl Urban its criminal that FOX was unable to make Almost Human work !

Please don’t cancel. One of my new fave shows. :-(

  • DTravel

I wonder if ‘Almost Human’ would have done better if Fox had shown the episodes in order. (Shades of ‘Firefly’?)

  • Why Watch

Almost Human would be a good Friday evening show. It’s become an enjoyable show to watch.

  • Berit

Almost Human is pretty much the only new show I like this season. I think it’s really good. why aren’t people watching!!!???
