Declining each week, the ratings for Almost Human fell to a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating last Monday. That ratings tumble, plus the schedule rejiggering to remove Almost Human from the nights of both the Sleepy Hollow finale and The Following premiere indicate that the show is now at best a "toss up" to be canceled or renewed.

Monday night shows with rapidly changing ratings pose a unique dilemma for the bear. Sometimes his prediction becomes outdated minutes after it's made. (The ratings for last night were not known when this was written and are not reflected in the prediction, or the numbers in the table above.) As always, further changes in a show's relative ratings mean more prediction changes. Stay tuned.

Why is Dads "defacto canceled"?

Rookie shows that have their episode orders reduced, and their scheduled air dates end in February, have been canceled.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2014
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2014
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I thought AH was terrible and am not surprised at the crashing numbers. Apparently Fox is also showing the episodes out of order? I read this somewhere else (TVLine?) so don’t quote me on it. Only Fox show I care about is B99, I hope it continues to pick up and draw an audience.

    @DTravel
I do remember that Fox aired episodes of Terra Nova, Alcatraz, The Finder, and Touch out of order as well. From what I remember, it created some pretty confusing scenes in both Terra Nova and Alcatraz. I’m not saying that’s why they were cancelled, but it could have caused some viewers to tune out.

However, I don’t think that will cause any problems for Almost Human. It’s still pretty much just your general cop show with a nice twist. Since cop shows don’t have a lot of major plot development in each episode, it doesn’t hurt to air the episodes out of order like Fox has been doing. So far, the episode order for Almost Human has been:

    1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 3*
    *=upcoming

If Fox has butchered the order of the episodes so drastically and people haven’t left in droves, then confusion from the incorrect episode order won’t be what causes viewers to tune out in the future. It’ll be quality.

I never watched Firefly but was it a show where you had to see each episode in order to understand the story?

  • HeadlessHorseman

    @Ronak
Correct, they are being aired out of order, but since AH is similar to all cop shows, it won’t cause too much confusion.

  • Will

If Fox is silly enough to cancel an improving Almost Human, I hope USA, or TNT picks it up. I’ve really grown like the 2 lead actors.

  • Mina

It’s not must see like Sleepy Hollow. It’s a mediocre rip of all of those scifi movies into one and it shows. Rips are so blatant..it’s like..oh they’re gonna rip that movie or that show in this episode..rolls eyes.

Not horrible and not good enough. Forgot it was on yesterday. Tuned in for SH though. Cancel.

These scifi shows never show enough grit. Uhhh clean CGIs blow. This show should be shot at rainy nights, exclusively.

I read somewhere that they have the coveted young male audience in this show.. will that save it?

  • captainwhat

The writing on this, and the chemistry between the leads is really like nothing else I’ve seen on television recently. I am so worried that it will be cancelled, but I’ve already resigned to this fate and am just enjoying the ride for as long as I can.

  • AdWhois

I love Almost Human. Gonna be pissed if Fox cancels it (I’ll go back to watching no Fox shows). The chemistry between the leads is amazing which is rare for a new show now-a-days. Such a good show.

  • Refrain

Almost Human to me seems like a show that would have a decent life on cable. You could probably get a half dozen seasons out of it with the right network.

  • DTravel

    @Headless Horseman

Yes, ‘Firefly’ had a progressive storyline with episodes’ events and character relationships being changed and motivated by prior episodes. This was especially evident in the four episodes that Fox didn’t air. What was even worse was Fox aired the original pilot, carefully constructed to introduce all the characters, third or fourth and forced Joss Whedon to rush produce a new “actiony” pilot (a train robbery). Messed up the whole series as aired.

  • matt

Like others here, Almost Human is the only new show I’m watching too and I look forward to each new episode. Once we get through this first batch of episodes I’d like to sit down and watch them again but in the correct order.

  • Anthony

Almost Human and Sleepy Hollow are great! I’m not sure why Almost Human isn’t so popular. The ratings suggest otherwise so I don’t see why the 3rd highest rated show on FOX thus far would be a Toss Up for cancellation. Let’s hooe they’re wrong and Almost Human doesn’t become bear chow!

  • Dee Chambers

PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL ALMOST HUMAN!!
    BEST NEW SHOW IN AGES!!!

  • David

Almost Human will be renewed. There are really not so many choices for FOX. X-factor will be cancelled. Ratings for other shows are pathetic. FOX cannot cancel the whole channel.

  • Alexis

TV dosent work anymore, i can’t wait for a future where you watch the serie you want just like on Netflix.

Having to sit down to watch TV each weeks on a particular time when we both work, take care of the kids, it just dosent work anymore.

It’s time for the networks to wake up ! It’s time to change TV.. why do you think people just Torrent TV shows and watch them once the kids are asleep….

And after that they cry like babies because a particular TV show dosent work or gets low rating… god damn it… it’s 2013… wake up !

  • Cam

Somebody should do what Peter on Family Guy did – hijack a truckload of Neilson boxes, and tune every one of them to watch Almost Human.

I fail to see the part of your comment where you explain where all the money is going to come from to pay for the production of the shows.

  • Donnie

Almost Human is not too bad, but not too good. FOX should switch the slot with Bones.

  • Ted

Sorry but Fox is very likely to cancel any live action show which does not have the words “American” or “Idol” anywhere in its title.

  • The Nightman Cometh

i thought it had potential, but as each week progresses, im less eager to watch it. Sleepy hollow is losing me also. I miss HUMAN TARGET

Wow, this website is really slow… it took like five years for this guy’s comment to finally post! ;)
