via press release:

E! News Exclusive: Adam Sandler to Guest Star on Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Super Bowl Episode! Find Out Who He's Playing...

Prince isn't the only one coming to Fox comedy. Adam Sandler is, too!

The funnyman is shooting the Super Bowl episode of Fox's new comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, sources confirm exclusively to E! News.

Fox has not confirmed the casting, however insiders tell us that Sandler will be playing himself in a scene with his real-life pal Andy Samberg. The episode is shooting this week.

It's quite a good day for Brooklyn, as the freshman series received a nomination for comedy series and lead actor (for Samberg) for the 2014 Golden Globes.

As we previously reported, Prince will be guest starring on New Girl, airing on the Super Bowl, too.

We spoke with Brooklyn creator Mike Schur earlier today, who was celebrating two of his shows' Globe nominations (Brooklyn and Parks and Recreation) and he said this of the Super Bowl episode: "It's very fun. There's a lot of Terry Crews and Andre Braugher together, which I love. The two of them have a big storyline together and they're really, really funny together. And then there's some super Bowl specific stuff but we really just tried to create a really just big, bright, funny, juicy, comedy story."

Brooklyn's Super Bowl episode also will be easily accessible to anyone who hasn't watched a single episode yet. "We're hoping a lot of people will check out the show for the first time," Schur explained,
"because the entire universe watches the Super Bowl. And so we really just wanted to sort of introduce the characters to a wider audience. We tried to just build a couple stories that are really explaining in the funniest way who everyone is."

Brooklyn is easily one of the best new comedies of the season, airing Tuesday nights on Fox. Despite Fox's recent scheduling shakeup, with Glee moving back to Tuesdays, Brooklyn is keeping its spot on Tuesday nights. Surely, a vote of confidence from the network. And for good reason.

Fox had no comment.

  • Douglas from Brazil

    Wasn’t he named a overpaid actor?How much FOX is paying for this s***?

  • AllOfHerTw!st

    I think it’s time to move B99 from “Cancellation Predicted” to at least “On The Bubble.” Tommy can you hear me?

  • Connman

    Stunt casting? Time to move it to Certain Cancellation, IMHO.
    I think it’s a mistake to waste the slot on this show.

  • CrimTV

    Post-Super Bowl = Renewal

  • Ram510

    As if Andy Samberg wasn’t ridiculous enough, lets add in Adam Sandler. Good grief

    Hopefully this show improves in season like Parks & Recs did in it’s second season

  • HeadlessHorseman

    Fox realizes what viewership magnets Adam Sandler and his comedic style are. Given the worldwide acclaim of Grown Ups 2, this was a no brainer.

    (Puts finger to earpiece)
    Hmm? What’s that? You mean Adam Sandler isn’t a viewership magnet? Fart jokes only appeal to the Kids 9-14 demo? And the only acclaim for Grown Ups 2 was worldwide acclaim as the crappiest piece of crap released in the history of mankind? Oh I see. That makes so much more sense.

  • Kaylie

    One of the best comedies this season. Deserves the slot. Fox needs the most help with their comedy line up.

  • Jeff (Canada)

    Let’s just hope it’s “funny” Adam Sandler and not “recent” Adam Sandler.

  • Networkman

    I’m shocked that Prince agree to guest star in New Girl. Is this the legendary artist, musician Prince? I will have to check out New Girl just to see him. Is this his first TV role?

  • birdy

    What I disliked about the one episode of B99 I watched was its Adam-Sandler-ish humor. Now they cast the very man. Guess I know what I definitely won‘t be watching after the next superbowl.

  • Christian

    Will New Girl and B99 rate higher than the 26.8 million viewers Glee put up for their post super bowl episode? That is the most interesting question!

  • Dan S

    I’m not surprised by Adam Sandlers appearance on B99. After all the show is produced by Happy Madison.

  • Dan S

    Scratch that, I’m thinking of The Goldbergs.

  • Dan

    @Dan S – I’m surprised Sandler’s never made an appearance on Happy Madison’s Rules of Engagement either. This will be Sandler’s first primetime guest star on television since he guest starred on The King of Queens in 2007. He rarely appears on Shows.

    If a new comedy from each network is renewed

    ABC = The Goldbergs
    CBS = Mom
    FOX = Brooklyn Nine-Nine
    NBC = About a Boy?

  • KJ Styles

    Looking forward to this. I think B99 will be renewed and if it does well after the Super Bowl then it’s a certain renewal. Doing 85% of Fox’s scripted average given the fact that it airs opposite two of the top dramas on TV fares well for it’s chances. This episode should only help it’s chances.

  • Bee

    OMG. prince on new girl and now adam sandler on brooklyn nine-nine? these shows are going to do fantastic!

  • ToXiX

    Brooklyn Nine Nine will be renewed no doubt, anyone saying otherwise isn’t very smart.

  • JR

    Brooklyn Nine Nine is an ‘okay’ to ‘pretty good’ show. Fox doesn’t have a lot of options, so the shrugworthy Golden Globe nomination for the show (and the ridiculous nom for Samberg) could be enough to bring it back. Ton of potential, too.

  • j

    Yeah, Fox is suck, so why not bring it back?
    I’ll laugh if the episodes after the Super Bowl special go up 0% from before.

    @J. Like Elementary last year ?
