JFP is NOT going anywhere……….Y&R’s numbers are doing something! Congrats to all soaps!

  • moshane58

Hope these soaps stay up. Congrats on a good week..Loving GH..

  • Rob R

Severe winter weather across the middle part of the country explains why all four soaps were up on Friday Dec 6.

  • diana

Robert Scorpio always brings the ratings, GH was dumb to not put Tristan Rogers on contract. Scorpio family reunion was that week, Robin lurking at Patrick’s wedding. GH has been on FIRE lately!

  • Mike

Not to hijack the thread away from ratings talk too much, I wanted to alert everyone that We Love Soaps has put up their Best and Worst list for the year. They did a wonderful job. They are spot on for me — must better than any list I have seen.

I think they have some from every show except maybe One Life To Live.

  • Karen C

Congrats to ALL of the soaps! Such good news this season that all soaps are up. I love seeing the year to year gains. So incredibly impressive. As much as I miss GL, ATWT, OLTL and AMC, I think that is part of the reason for the rise of the current soaps. Maybe there were too many on the air before. Regardless of the reason, I hope these numbers keep rising.

  • Melanie P.

Way to go GH and congrats to the rest of the soaps!

  • Jeff

That is a good list on We Love Soaps. I take exception with Heather Tom, who to me, is just the most overrated daytime actress of all time. I think she just overacts and shrieks and cries, and they just keep giving her awards and nominations. She’s just not my cup of tea for actresses, but I know she is a favorite of many. But, the rest of the list is pretty awesome. OLTL did get several mentions.

  • Mike

    I missed them Jeff.

We Love Soaps to me is the best of the soap opera sites anymore. They always seem to fair and spot on with their analysis and stuff.

I have just about gotten to where I don’t even go to or read many of the others. I only see anything from Daytime Confidential if someone happens to post it or portions somewhere else. I just don’t trust them at all anymore. And Soap Opera Digest has just lost so much credibility.

  • PatF

We Love Soaps isn’t as slanted in its favoritism like three/four major Blogs/Soap Writers that I won’t name. But I’m open for guesses…

Let’s just say they ALWAYS praise GH regardless of what’s going on. And I’m not dissing the show at all, it had a great year, but no greater than Days and BB.

I think SOD had a pretty good Best issue as well, and I also liked Carolyn Hinsey’s selections.

  • Lynn

I think We Love Soaps got it right on the money. I disagree with Jeff: Heather Tom is an amazing actress with great range. Possibly the strongest actress on any of the current soaps. The WLS nod was well deserved. As for the ratings, B&B hit a 3.0 on Friday, it’s first 3.0 in many years. Really nice to see. Kudos for all the soaps, except Y&R, which is still a pale imitation of its former great self. Steve Burton just sucks the life out of the show when he’s on screen. Pairing him with the top players at Y&R like Melody Thomas Scott doesn’t help a bit. He drags down every scene.

  • Rebecca

Congrats to the entire cast and crew of GH!! The show is so red hot and absolutely fantastic right now, and I can’t wait for the next day!! All of the stories are so gripping!! This success is so well deserved.

When you think of where this show was a couple of years ago, it’s nothing short of amazing for it to have this kind of success again. Bravo to Ron, Frank, their behind-the-scenes staff and all the actors for their hard work day-in and day-out to make things turn around. GH is an iconic show with such a large, loyal fan base, and this just proves that when the show is written and produced well, that fan base will respond, keep tuning in, and spread the word.

Hopefully, this success will continue and ABC will keep nurturing GH to keep it on for many years to come!!

Y&R HAS BEEN GREAT SO HAS GH I

  • jonboy

Hartley Sawyer is OUT at Y&R!!!! It’s news that makes my day! Bring back Blake Hood!!!

  • PatF

One of the most odd recasts in my soap memory. And no where were we given the reason why.

Nothing against Hartley, but he just didn’t fit that role like Blake did.

I doubt he’ll be back, but we can dream.

  • JayTN

    A few comments…

I never really understood the need to recast the role of Kyle. I preferred Blake Hood’s performance more than Hartley Sawyer, but the character remains kind of a “throw-away” part…meaning, it seems that the writers never really know what to do with him. Aside from the whole “sleeping with your sister” near-miss, Kyle hasn’t really been utilized as anything more than filler or window dressing.

TVGN – the cable home of Y&R and B&B – will air a new special featuring TV Guide Magazine soap expert Michael Logan on Monday at 2:00 PM (and it will be repeated throughout the month). It takes a look at the cancellations of recent soaps like GL, ATWT, AMC and OLTL and also looks at how the soaps seem to be on a resurgence of late. It’s called “Who Shot the Daytime Soap?”.

  • jonboy

I might be overthinking but I kind of sensed a Victor/Jack rivalry brewing between Kyle and Noah, which might be interesting. Kind of like what they are doing with the “son” characters on the Dallas reboot. I know its a horrible superficial thing to say but, in my eyes, Sawyer is just plain ugly and I cringed every time he appeared on screen. Even the haircut didn’t help. I think I read somewhere that there was friction between Hood and Phelps and that’s why the recast occurred. Who knows. But he was certainly easier in the eyes. I would have found Summers attraction much more believable with him continuing in the role.

  • jonboy

@my sometimes buddy Mike—Thanks for bringing We Love Soaps to my attention. Never knew it existed. You’re right. Good stuff there.

  • Scott_N_ATL

Yep…I knew it several months back that this would happen. GH is simply the hottest thing on daytime tv. Period. Very proud!

  • Chrisann D

Good for the soaps! The only one I don’t watch is B&B. I know a lot of you don’t like Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) on Gh but I thought he was a good actor and will miss him.
