The average viewership increase From DVR Viewing ranks which of the top broadcast shows [by Live+7 viewers] had the largest absolute increase in average viewership by DVR between the Live + Same Day and Live + 7 day ratings measurements.

Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.

Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.

Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

Do the Live+7 ratings tell us anything about a show's renewal prospects we didn't already know from the Live+Same Day ratings?  No.  Click here to learn more.

    I was curious to see the numbers for the Glee episode that aired on Thanksgiving. It must be excluded from the list because it was labeled as a special?

  • Charmed

    Good for HOD. TCD didn’t air this week.

  • Jere

    Wow supernatural and originals! Go cw! If cbs cancelled the mentalist over good wife, they are stupid. Mentalist tops it by a huge margin with dvr added on

  • Dani

    Almost Human doing well with DVR.

  • JulioC

    Bones numbers, anybody? Please?

  • Felipe

    Where’s Glee?

  • Dom

    Yeah is GLEE off since it was labeled as a “special”?

  • Judy912

    Again, great numbers for CASTLE!! WAY TO GO CASTLE!!

  • Daley

    @Dom @Mark
    Yes, since it was categorized as a “Special”, it’s not on the list. It would still be very interesting to see the number though.

  • FringeFan

    The Blacklist does extremely well Live+7 for a low-rated drama.

  • Ally Oop

    Hart of Dixie had a 75% increase in the demo! That goes to show you how much the timeslot affects the show’s rating. CW needs to put a male demo target show there instead to counteract The Voice and I guess they will be with The Tomorrow People. I think Tomorrow People has a shot of getting renewed if it can improve on Hart’s Monday ratings. Star-Crossed is doomed though as its target demo is the same as The Voice. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hart gets better ratings on Fridays. It’ll be interesting to see. The Bear put Tomorrow People at cancellation predicted but I still argue its on the bubble. CW needed a male target demo show to go to Mondays and if it get even a .4 on a stable basis I betcha it will be renewed. I’m gonna predict that all three of CW’s new fall shows, excepting a below .4 drop for Tomorrow People, will be renewed. And if The 100 does well, which I suspect it will, then don’t be shocked to see 4 of CW’s freshman shows renewed, along with Hart of Dixie. I know it’s only December and a lot can happen, but as things stand now, I think the will go into next season with only two or three new shows. Mark my words.

    @Fringe Fan

    I’d love to know how The Blacklist is a low-rated drama when is broadcast #1’s drama this season.

  • Debra

    I see that neither NCIS nor Criminal Minds made any of the lists.
    Very disappointed about CM bc the episode they showed the eve before Thanksgiving has been one of the best ones of the season so far.

    And where’s Elementary, Hawaii five-0 and Blue Blood? Were they reruns?

  • tom_scavo

    @jere:

    hahahaha. you obviously don’t know what matters for CBS at all.

  • Mi

    @Ally Oop
    A male target demo show against Monday night football? Sounds like a good idea to you? Eh, not.
    And with that 75% increase, HoD’s ratings still barely match Reign’s live+SD. I wouldn’t call that a suceess.

  • Billiam

    I know SD+7 doesn’t really matter to the networks because they don’t sell it but DVR usage keeps increasing… Someone needs to find a way to market to the DVR viewers… even if they require the cable networks that sell/rent their own DVRs (like Brighthouse) to play one 30-second commercial at the beginning of the show like they do on-demand…

  • david

    Great numbers for the Originals and SPN. This explains why they are should cancil Beauty and the Beast only a .5 in live+7 day.added in.

  • Nikki

    i love that every episode of Hostages makes the list.. it goes to show that people do watch and like the show. its so under rated.

  • CBSviewer

    @ Debra

    I see that neither NCIS nor Criminal Minds made any of the lists

    On November 26, NCIS was replaced by Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

  • Brandy

    @AllyOop you realize CW is having an up year and with right now four shows getting 1.0 or better, all shows under 0.6 beside HoD are very Likley to be cancelled.CW won’t have to tolerate 0.2-0.5 any more.Also,TTP will be up against The Voice which reigns on Mon-Tues and up against similarly male skewing hits Blacklist & The Following.Its already at 0.5 .What will it do in spring with Star-Crossed as a leadin?Nikita,90210,BatB all got ended/cancelled with 0.3s If CW wants to survive past 2015-2016, 0.4 aren’t going to cut it,especially in season one.EOMD got 0.3-0.4 in its first season was cancelled.I say BatB was/is “cancelled” because that’s pretty much what cw said when they put it on indefinite hiatus with episodes remaing & no return date . Almost everyone keeps saying CW will have higher expectations/standards for thier shows ratings this season and will haver lower tolerance and less patience for underperformered.Also, TTP. 18-34 numbers are very bad.If SC tanks, it’ll take TTP with it.
