Series To Premiere In Spring 2014

·         New York, NY (December 17, 2013) – Today, SHOWTIME released an early tease for its highly-anticipated drama series PENNY DREADFUL, which is currently in production in Ireland, for a spring 2014 premiere. The series stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Eva Green (Casino Royale) Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, License to Kill), Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger), Billie Piper (Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and Danny Sapani (The Bill).

In PENNY DREADFUL, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light – have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series is a frightening psychosexual thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar® nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Call The Midwife), both of Neal Street. Of the eight episodes, the first two will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who helmed The Orphanage and the acclaimed film, The Impossible starring Naomi Watts in her Oscar-nominated performance. How can you say this series is “highly anticipated” This is the first I am hearing about this show. Just because something airs on Showtime doesn’t automatically mean its extraordinary or magnificent. FX and AMC are premiering great shows for 2014 but get no attention.

  • Simon Jester

@Sunny – It may be the first you’re hearing about it, but there have been at least half dozen or more articles on this site — and many more elsewhere. And based on the cast alone (including some not mentioned above, like Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale), it’s certainly “highly anticipated” in my house!

Keep in mind that in marketing-speak anything can be true. The execs at Showtime are anticipating it highly since they hope it is successful and it makes them money!

  • DeeAgeaux

Anything with Eva Green is highly anticipated in my house.

Probably has something to do with watching the Dreamers as a young lad.

Other that that Arthurian show on Starz that was horrible pretty much like her work.

    This show looks awesome!

I guess it should premiere April 6 or 13 after Shameless end it’s season run.

  • Bruno

Anything featuring Billie Piper makes me anxious!

  • Roman

Not impressed. I hope it’s better than that awful Dracula series on NBC.

  • Brody

I guess this will air against Game of thrones? I think that Penny Dreadful will kick GOT’s butt in ratings. I think it will get the Walking Dead type ratings. It looks so good.
