via NBC press note:

In Late-Night Metered Markets Tuesday night:

“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” captured its highest Tuesday rating in metered-market households (3.5 rating, 9 share) in four months (since an appearance by President Obama on Aug. 6, 3.8/10).

Last night’s encore of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.7/6 in metered-market households) earned that show’s top Tuesday result since Oct. 8, despite being a rebroadcast.

  • In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 3.5/9; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.7/7; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.9/5.

  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 1.2/6; "Late Show," 0.6/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/3.

  • From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

  • From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.7/6 in metered-market households with an encore telecast) beat CBS's first-run "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.3/5).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.6/4 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

  • At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 1.0/4 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.4/4 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for  live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Good for the NCIS family. Will be interesting to see how NCIS builds up to its newest spin-off this spring.

  • Ultima

    @The Best
    The Voice is paying back it’s over exposure !
    Two seasons a year is enough, NBC don’t need to extend it till Thursdays sometimes, airing lots of clip show and make two-hour tuesdays editions so often ! The Voice is OVER EXPOSED ! That’s why it keeps trending since season 3. -1.0 adults 18-49 in a year is HUGE !

    Nonsense.

    This cycle was only down ~7% from last fall. That’s clearly not a sign of overexposure.

  • Scott

    The Voice did fine, it will be adjusted up by the end of the day.

    All things considered, fine for The Voice considering the June finale had Cher and topped American Idol

  • The Nightman Cometh

    POI had decent numbers still, people probably thought there wasnt a new episode.as for a rerun of goldbergs pullin a 1.0, thats great. best new comedy this yr IMO. looking forward to tonights episode of goldbergs as well

  • Jon

    @MeandMrsJones
    You can’t be serious without Reese (caviezel) the show would be dead the whole show is him

  • Tom

    @ Ultima

    I’d say your spin and excuses for the Voice being down is a little ironic considering….
    It’s an over saturated gimicky and stale singing competition, as most are these days. Fading, maybe not fast, but fading.

  • Ultima

    @cc
    Viewers tuned in to see the contestants regardless of the judges?

    If that’s the case, then what is the point of the Christina/Shakira comments if it doesn’t actually impact the viewership?

    Also, when the show went live (which shifts more attention from the judges to the contestents), the numbers plummeted.

    I don’t have a horse in the race, it just seems like people have the conclusion that they want and just ignore the numbers when they don’t support it.

  • Juan

    I love that the goldbergs repeat so well and trophy wife too considering what it gets for originals

  • Cuttler

    @Jon,

    Depends on Caviezel’s contract. Taraji’s was most likely 3 years (and she had stated in season 1 interviews she agreed to 2 to 3 years). She probally wasn’t going to re-sign and they killed off the character for ratings. If Caviezel’s is also 3 years and he’s told them he’s not re-siging they have to do something to his character too. Time will tell.

  • Melanie

    I had no idea that POI was new – luckily the DVR caught it.

    So — the CW — repeats of the Tuesday line-up rates as well as or better than original episodes of the Monday night shows. BATB is deader than dead and I’m starting to wonder just how strong the syndication gods are – do they REALLY want HOD that bad?

  • Douglas from Brazil

    The Voice ratings will be up in the spring with Shakira.A lot latinos who watch Univision will be tuning on NBC.Also, the young latino adults are growing fast in America.Latinos are having babies like rabbits.In 30 years, half of American will be latino most of them mexicans.

  • rgxx

    ABC’s WWYD is just making stuff up that never happen now – they have exhausted all possibility of situations that people MIGHT find themselves in when they started this show. — NOW ABC is making stuff up that would most likely not happen…-

    ABC: you might as well call this Candid Camera. Then it would work.

  • MeandMrsJones

    @Jon

    But Jon the writing is so good on this show, it overshadows any one character!!! LOL

    Anyway, I still think it’s weird that they brought up the whole Reese wasn’t the first thing. Why introduce that? I didn’t watch last night, but was that even discussed? And then I read that Reese had a small part in the episode. I don’t know. It’s just what I feel, but I’m probably wrong.

  • Ultima

    @Tom
    I’d say your spin and excuses for the Voice being down is a little ironic considering….

    Please point out where I made an excuse for The Voice being down.

    I’m just saying it’s stupid to only look at the finale numbers. NBC doesn’t just sell ad time for the finale, they sell ad time for the entire 40+ hours that it airs each cycle.

    Fading, maybe not fast, but fading.

    This may come as a shock to you, but virtually everything on TV is usually down every year. The Voice being down ~7% is doing better than the average veteran show.

  • CreacK

    I love that Dads and Goldbergs owned their networks last night, even if it was just reruns. Hopefully they can pick up more viewers and get to good renewal numbers.

  • may mai

    @ultima:

    yoy must be confused

    with ONLY the exception of the first 3 blind audition episodes, the voice season 5 TANKED against Shakira’s season. the remaining blind audition, steal, knockout round episodes from season 5 (Christina) were wayyyy down compared to season 4 (Shakira/Usher). PERIOD.

    the facebook page says it all…people do NOT like Christina Aguilera and they tuned OUT because of her.

  • danny94

    goldbergs repeated well.

  • Tessanne Ka-Ching

    Pretty good for The Voice..

    It’s still HIGHER than Idols finale and I expect it to be adjusted up. The past seasons it had a clips show as their lead in instead of the weaker TBL.

  • CBSviewer

    Good for the NCIS twins !

  • andrew

    the voice is down way more in season 5 than in season 4

    the producers should keep usher and shakira and get rid of Christina and Ceelo
