Can’t say didn’t expect this since it was when people were off to watch live. but still the soaps are doing better..

  • Marissa

Yep, this was definitely expected. Kudos to the soaps, though!

  • Mike

Now that is a weird headline. Why just single out GH and Y&R as being down in both when Days was too?

I have defended their headlines before but this one is weird.

In fact if you click on the link B&B is the only soap with a plus sign at all for current ratings. They went up in Total Viewers by a small amount. Everything else was down this week, but it was to be expected after so many people were home the week before.

  • DenverDean

@Mike because Y&R and GH will draw more clicks.

  • Candy Clouds

I wonder how much further down the ratings for Y&R will go now that the guy that plays Adam was fired the other day (his last day on set was yesterday).

  • Bart

    “Y & R” is still going strong!!

Bottom line: All the soaps are up year over year – a very good sign!!

  • tj

Nice Gh still at 3 mil and top of the 18-49 demo. Days hanging in there coming close to catching B&B in the 18-49 demo. My wish for these soaps in 2014 are for less newbie hires and more location shoots for realism. Each soap should have some action/adventure storyline at least once a year.

Its going down further now that they lost two great talents I know I will quit watching in by February. I hope to hear its no longer number 1.

  • j

Glad all the soaps have better numbers than last year.I hope xmas does as well as the last holiday week.

  • robert

It’s good to see all the soaps up from last year.

  • Mike

Michelle Stafford had a big fan base who threatened to quit when she left. Y&R’s ratings went up after she left.

I guess by this time next year Days and Y&R will both be gone since Chandler Massey’s fans and Michael Muhney’s fans are going to quit watching. Both shows are just going to collapse.

I guess we will be down to two soaps.

I understand having faves but when you watch a soap opera it is about the whole show not just one character or one actor.

Shows do not get rid of an actor mid-contract just for the heck of it. Many are saying there is more to this story than we are being told. Why punish a show or the other actors on that show because of something that actor may have brought on himself.

Apparently the cast didn’t even give him a cake and a farewell but they did Billy Miller and they both left on the same day. That tells me something right there.

  • Hugo

Weird headline indeed but GH and Y&R fell more than Days.

The battle for 1st place(GH vs. Y&R) and 3rd place (B&B vs. Days) in the W18-49 demo is exciting to watch this season.

  • Mike

I am even more sure now that Michael Muhney brought this on himself. This is what Melody Thomas Scott had to say:

    Melody Thomas Scott ?@MelodyThomasSco 22m

@SLHerrero ANY actor would’ve been fired under these circumstances.Terrible loss 2 the show & it sickens me that this has happened.

    *******

Also several of the sites that were gung-ho have settled down. Daytime Confidential after Michael Logan made his comment to them have calmed down and gone silent.

Also they said that now Dan Kroll at Soap Central has found out what really happened and the mods over there have changed their tune.

  • wiggi

There is a reason they list Total Viewers first. The big story is that B&B doesn’t go up and down and has climbed week after week. I expect B&B to surpass Y&R this next year.have heard talk of expanding to an hour show. Would love to see them switch time slots.congrats to GH and all soaps resurging in 2013!

  • wiggi

Looks like in the demos all soaps are at very respectable numbers.

  • MBmomof3

Mike, I’d love to know the dish on Muhney’s firing. I don’t follow Twitter or many soap blogs, so I’ll probably never know what happened. He is a talented actor and I will miss his portrayal of Adam.

Y&R has lost a lot of talented cast members in recent years. The list goes on and on. However, I’ll keep watching to see what’s in store for Genoa City. Hopefully 2014 will be a great year for all the soaps and the fans.

  • Brook-ish

Today I have begun either watching or taping every show. Supporting every show. Even young and restless though it is very disappointing the last year. BOLD is great. They have a rhythm that hs some major momentum. I support them all but am betting on BOLD in 014. :-D

  • Brook-ish

In the examiner it says Michael Muhney had tension with Braeden and it is possible that had something to do with his firing. If you ask me, Braeden has been overrated for some time now.

  • Lee Anne

It seems as though more details about MM’s firing are becoming clear. Memo to Mr. Muhney: A 38 year old married man with 3 children should not inappropriately touch a 19 year old co-star. It could get you fired.

As for the ratings, good that all soaps are still up from last year and hopefully all of those threatening to boycott Y&R because of MM’s dismissal will realize that he brought the firing on with his own actions. Sony/CBS had no choice but to take action.

  • Mike

The stuff with Braedan has been going on for years. That is not what it was. Bergman and Braedan came to blows once and both were kept on the show.

This was more than that. Some “insiders” are speculating that it was sexual harrassment.

Melody Thomas Scott went on to say it was not the fault of Sony, CBS, Phelps or the show. She very much put the ball in Muhney’s court. Her tweets basically said they had no choice but to let him go.

I don’t know if we will know any time soon. It was years after the fact before it was revealed that Robert Kelker Kelly was basically let go at Days because the women refused to work with him anymore. Since then it has been told that he harrassed Alison Sweeney and harrassed Jensen Buchanan when he was at Another World.

Several of the online press know but for some reason they can’t reveal it yet. Who knows when they will be able to. Evidently Sony must be trying to work out any legal ramifications as they still have not released an official statement on his firing.

Fans are trying to force Melody Thomas Scott to reveal what she knows but she told them it was not her place to tell.
