As I posted earlier, everyone will soon find out just how much weight these “soap fans” have when these popular actors (Chandler Massey, Billy Miller, Michael Muhney) leave. If the ratings needle barely moves, or even goes up, it will be further proof that the internet merely amplifies the minority point of view. On the internet, it is always the loudest that stands out. Just because it looks like a lot of people may support Muhney, that doesn’t really mean anything. With the existence of “sock puppets” and those viewers who don’t bother to post on-line, it is impossible to gauge just how much support one side has over the over.

What speaks volumes to me is the fact that Muhney doesn’t seem to be getting out in front of this story. Any good PR person would want to get Muhney’s version of what happened out there before this version came out, yet that didn’t happen. That tells me that either Muhney is extremely egotistical to think that his “legions” of fans would support him regardless of what he did or he is tone deaf. It will also be interesting to see whether Muhney’s wife speaks out about this. If the allegations are true, it probably isn’t the first time Muhney has tried this type of behavior. If Muhney’s wife leaves him – either a separation or divorce – it would lend a lot of credence to the harassment rumors.

Y&R is in a public relations nightmare. FB is exploding with groups calling/emailing/tweeting CBS/Y&R/Sony and boycotts to watch beginning on the 31st of January. Their lines and mailboxes are full. I think this may be one of the few instances where a show implodes because of one actor and/or the fans being fed up with all of the changes on the show. Basically his firing is the straw that broke the camels back.

I think HK is being a real trooper during all of this. She has to be reading what folks are putting on her Twitter account. She has not responded to the awful comments when esp. for some in the limelight it would be so easy to lose it and go off on them.

What is sad is that some of these women who are making the remarks and blaming her are traitors to their gender and set women’s rights back 100 years. I would hate to know what they would actually do if this was their baby sister, their mother, or heaven forbid their own daughter. I guess they would yell that was okay but for someone else’s daughter it is okay.

You think after 41 season Muhney can bring Y&R down? Get real! Muhney is a good actor, but he isn’t exactly Oscar bound.

In his exit interview MM admits his firing was his fault and to “carrying around a big backpack full of hubris” These statements and the very definition of hubris is basically an admission of guilt. I feel so bad for HK because I know it will only get worse for her before it gets better. Not because I think she’s great actress…who cares. She’s a young lady, basically just a girl. Someone’s daughter, sister, friend. Very sad for all involved. I hope MM gets some help for his personality issues. He’s talented, but he should have been fired. Y&R will survive.

An update to the Michael Muhney situation at Y&R from Soap Opera Network. Ex-Y&R producer/writer Maria Arena Bell seems to have clarified her original statement in which it seemed that she blaming the current Y&R writers for “destroying” a storyline that she had created all the while ignoring the salacious details of Muhney’s departure.

Now, Mrs. Bell has amended her comments, but still seems to get a swipe in at her former soap. Now, Bell says that Muhney “should have been let go months before because of his behind the scenes actions”. I wonder if Bell is perhaps complicit in Muhney’s “behind the scenes actions” by not doing anything if any actresses came to her with complaints about Muhney? Perhaps Sony wanted to cover all of their bases (and their own behinds) by doing an investigation – and investigation that could have taken weeks or months to perform – before taking action. Any employer would want to make sure that the person being terminated actually committed the actions that they are being accused of. Otherwise, Sony could be held liable and subject themselves to a lawsuit that could find them guilty of everything from illegally terminating a contract to libel and/or slander. (I say Sony because CBS is merely licensing Y&R from Sony and doesn’t really have anything to do with the production of the soap.)

It seems that, if nothing else, Mrs. Bell wanted to make sure that she distanced herself from Muhney and his alleged actions or else she – as a former writer and producer of the soap – could have some perhaps unflattering allegations (“scandal”, “cover-up”, etc.) thrown her way.

MB should have fired him long ago!

Major blizzard in Midwest right now!! Good week for soaps coming up?!?!

I saw the update from MAB. Plus I hadn’t noticed in the TMZ article that it said he had bullied several co-stars.

What I find really strange or weird is Nelson Branco’s sudden silence on this. He did the interview with Muhney and heavily defended him on Twitter even throwing shade or suspicion at Eric Braedan that he sexually abused Maura West and was responsible for her firing.

That is until Eric Braedan threatened on Twitter to sue him for libel. Branco backed off. And now has yet to even acknowledge the rumor or the article on TMZ.

I was glad that Michael Logan put a statement on his Twitter account today that basically called out his “loyalists” on their actions. He knew the truth all along.

The story has now even been picked up by the New York Daily News and TV Guide and numerous other outlets.

When the story of his firing first broke, his agent was posting in comments sections on all the sites toasting what a great actor they just fired, how he carried the show alone, was an Emmy nominee, and blah blah blah. Neither his agency or Muhney have said one word since the rumor first broke on sites or now even since the story has broken.

I don’t think Hunter King is a great actress, but I do feel for her in all this. I hate the things being said about her and the accusations being thrown at her. It’s a shame the way our society has a tendency to blame the victim but even sadder when a group of fans can’t look past their loyalty to a soap opera star to not make things worse for her.

The poor girl is the only one showing any class during this whole mess.

  • Tom

I’ve decided we can make up next weeks ratings. Each show had 7 mill viewers and a 30 share.

  • PatF

Regarding the ratings…Lord at my job if I let something be this delayed, I’d be out the door. I get a small holiday delay but by Friday we’ll be three weeks behind. Get it together.

As for MM…I kind of believed it from the beginning. It’s too bad her name had to be out there, but it was BEFORE the TMZ thing came out.

There has been a lot of hate toward this brave girl on Twitter. Almost all from women, which I just don’t understand.

I saw some very heated texts from MM to a YR fan from earlier this year, and his image behind closed doors is definitely different from what he shows at these fan events. So sad.

With all this continued negative press surrounding YR, I keep thinking Phelps has been given a short time to correct it, or hopefully she’ll be bounced. And that would be the one good thing to come of all of this mess.

  • MBmomof3

I also think that JFP’s days may be numbered at YR. Maybe that’s why MAB felt the need to add her two cents to this whole MM mess. To CYA and also possibly lobby to get her job back. Purely speculation, but I thought it weird that she felt the need to thrust herself in the middle of this situation. She’s a Bell, so I would think she has credible sources who know the details of MM’s firing.

It is truly bizarre (and sad) to me the bashing of the victim in this case. Some of the comments I’ve read on soap boards confirms for me why I usually don’t read many soap message boards. As JayTN stated, Sony/CBS would have clearly done a thorough investigation before firing MM. Have these fans (mostly women!?) who are bashing the victim never worked in the corporate environment in the last 30+ years? And people wonder why women don’t report assaults or harassment. SMH.

As far as the ratings delay…what’s up with that?

  • Jeff

The ratings delays are insane. I agree with PatF, whoever is in charge should be fired. The holidays are no reason for you to be a full 2+ weeks behind in releasing television ratings for crying out loud.

  • Mike

Evidently Nielsen gets paid a higher price for certain ratings and that is why certain things are being kept up to date or brought up to date while the late night talk show ratings and the daytime ratings are behind 2 weeks. The syndicated ratings have been slightly delayed while even up to the Cable News ratings are up to date daily now.

    It’s sad.

There are no websites that actually pay for the daytime ratings only the production companies and networks.

I just suspect it is one of those things where money talks and the most persistent itch gets the most scratching.

Daytime probably gets the slightest because basically you are talking about the fewest shows in that rating section. So Nielsen is getting the least amount of money there.

Hopefully they will catch up soon. Really interested in seeing what Christmas week did to the soaps this year. The ratings for this week should be good since we are getting so much snow and so many people are at home.

  • Tim

I know Days hits a four year high in woman 18-49 viewers, they posted it today…..can’t wait to see the ratings this is really a long wait….Tim Days fan of 40 years….

  • PatF

SON tweeted the link to the ratings from the 16-20th. Only YR and BB were up the that coveted (not) 18-49 demo. All shows down from the previous week, and YR has reclaimed top spot in all demos.
