The average viewership increase From DVR Viewing ranks which of the top broadcast shows [by Live+7 viewers] had the largest absolute increase in average viewership by DVR between the Live + Same Day and Live + 7 day ratings measurements.

Definitions:

DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data LiveLive+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.

Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.

Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate

Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

Do the Live+7 ratings tell us anything about a show's renewal prospects we didn't already know from the Live+Same Day ratings?  No.  Click here to learn more.

    Good Live+7 showing for OUAT.

    Go Carrie!

    Terrible for TCD

    You would think with so many people watching TBBT live that it wouldn’t have big DVR numbers but that show continues to dominate all around.

  • Percysowner

    Are Supernatural numbers available?

  • Nasir

    @Percysowner

    Supernatural wasn’t on this week. It had it’s midseason finale the week before.

  • Jen

    @charmed – those numbers are terrible!

  • Boiler

    I know Scandal is a good show but I love seeing Elementary top it in viewers even though the demo not as good.

  • Todd

    Good to see! The Once Upon a Time and Revenge cliffhangers were top-notch. Could bring in more live viewers when they return with Resurrection. ( Why do I care about this?)

  • HalCapone

    The “wow” factor of 100% increase for Carrie Diaries is replaced by raucous laughter seeing that it went from 0.2 to 0.4 in the 18-49 demo. Essentially, percentage increases are meaningless but fans will celebrate nonetheless.

  • Brandy

    Glad to see Carrie,Reign,Nashville,Big Bang Theory,Once,Betyral on here

  • Billiam

    @HalCapone

    I was thinking the same thing… thanks for verbalizing it for me… Sorry but the DVR numbers aren’t going to save it. Jedi mind tricks…

  • OriginalRandy

    @HalCapone

    So true! Most people here understand that none of these charts really mean anything. But % increase is ALWAYS the funniest. I have nothing against CD. It is just another example [but it is a good one] to show the absurdity of these charts.
    Happy New Year to all!

  • OriginalRandy

    @Sheri

    You too, Sheri! Happy New Year!

    I’m not surprised that the ratings for Grimm’s fall finale got a huge boost with the Live+7 DVR ratings. It aired the same night that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug came out in theaters and the live ratings were down considerably from what they typically are. Based on these DVR numbers, I think it’s safe to say that a large chunk of Grimm’s usual audience was at movie theater that night and watched Grimm’s fall finale later on DVR. I know DVR numbers are meaningless when it comes to determining whether or not a show gets renewed, but I just wanted to comment on that. I’m definitely not one bit worried about Grimm’s chances for renewal though. The show has always done pretty well on Friday nights, especially for NBC’s standards. :)

  • AllOfHerTw!st

    Go Sleepy Hollow!

    Elementary and Sleepy Hollow were the only shows in the top-10 of all 3 lists.

  • Tea

    Good numbers for Grey’s Anatomy

  • BarrettWallaceLives

    S.H.I.E.L.D is putting up some pretty consistant numbers, even while taking a beating from some in the comicbook community.
