  • David

    Raw’s viewership and adult demo numbers don’t match up. The demo is too low for the number of viewers.

  • AllOfHerTw!st

    The Breaking Bad marathon didn’t really kill it (and dissolve the bodies in a barrel).

  • cimmer

    Yes Major Crimes, steady 0.7, excellent. I would like it if it went up but I won’t be greedy because it managed to stay at 0.7 right through the holidays. And Full Throttle Saloon, good for you. I thought they were toast considering how low they started the new season.

  • TV Man

    Major Crimes won’t last longer than two more seasons. The ratings are nothing compared to the Closer and it is only a matter of time before the Closer’s faithful have had enough of Mary McDonnell. Slice it up however you want Mary McDonnell can’t lead a show and furthermore will annoy the viewers away.

  • Andy

    Wow, Cake Boss didn’t even make the list but Bakery Boss did. What a turn around from earlier when Bakery Boss was airing by itself and doing extremely poor.

  • kb

    Very nice numbers for Oregon vs Texas. 7.5 million viewers is great for a non bcs bowl.

  • Theoacme

    @cimmer – 0.8 demo – even better…plus third in viewers (behind the scoreboard show and game on ESPN) with over 5 million :)

    @TV Man – ratings up this week, on a holiday week, against WWE, Texas/Oregon – and I call personal foul, Gunsmoke Rule violation, 60 minute major (watch a random episode of Fringe)…

    …and Kyra Sedgwick was less of The Closer than you think – it’s more of an ensemble than, say, Rizzoli & Isles…paradoxically, that may be the reason Major Crimes may end sooner than the seven seasons that The Closer had (more people to pay more sooner or later) – McDonnell is not the reason, as she was not a regular during The Closer, so her contract won’t be as bad as, say, G.W. Bailey’s…

  • cimmer

    Darn it @Theoacme, that’s the second time I’ve done that with a show I like, looking at the second showing because I forget it double shows. Thank you. 0.8 is indeed better. I expect at least five seasons of Major Crimes unless something unexpected happens (like the annoying DA getting more air time lol).

  • Theoacme

    @cimmer – how about the old standard cry #sixseasonsandamovie ?? :)

  • DenverDean

    @Theoacme

    I have a feeling that the contract for all TC regulars were renegotiated at much lower levels since MC is a completely different show. They didn’t inherit TC contracts. Plus, I guarantee that those actors were happy to start from “ground zero” to keep their jobs and a show that has the potential to run several seasons. I’m sure TNT will keep it alive long enough to build enough episode for so they can sell for syndication like TC.

  • TV Man

    I loved the cast of the Closer but making Mary McDonnell the lead character was not a wise decision. While I love the cast of Major Crimes from the Closer days Mary McDonnell is making this show unwatchable.

    Her method of speech annoys me to no end & as much as I like the cast there is only so much Mary McDonnell I can take.

    Going back to Independence Day (one of my favorite movies) before I even knew who Mary McDonnell was I always hated her role in that movie. Long story short, when I put two & two together and realized who Mary McDonnell was on the Closer I gasped. Then they turn the reigns over to her as the lead character?!?! Horrible! Most critics agree too. I just wish they took in somebody new for the lead role.

  • Tahu

    Can anyone post the ratings for Treme (HBO on Sunday) or the last two episodes of Atlantis (BBC America on Saturdays)?

    Anyway, I think it is a real testament to Breaking Bad that it’s repeats are getting higher ratings than some of AMC’s original shows.

  • Dillan

    Good numbers for RHOBH and Vanderpump Rules!

  • Moshe

    Sorry, TVMan- while there is a segment of viewers who didn’t make the jump to Major Crimes, a much bigger segment did stick the transition out, even more have discovered it as a new show in its own right, and all of those audiences are now roundly enjoying the show in this new incarnation. It ended 2013 as one of the Top 10 Basic Cable programs, it consistently wins its night as the most watched basic cable show, and has already been picked up for a third season to begin next summer. Sorry you don’t care for it, or for Mary McDonnell as the new lead of the show, but there are a lot of us (5.2 million this week, closer to 7 once we factor in the time delayed viewers) who very much do.

  • Theoacme

    Not everyone, TV Man, can be Kyra Sedgwick – just like, in a real police department, everyone is different.

    Example – of the many partners Sgt. Joe Friday had on Dragnet, the two you’re most likely to remember are Detective Frank Smith (Ben Alexander) and Detective Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan – who also appeared as a captain early in the radio run of Dragnet in one episode). But the best one, in my opinion, was Sgt. Ben Romero (Barton Yarborough).

    Also note the squad’s reaction to Raydor’s appointment to head Major Crimes – the same as their reaction to Johnson’s. Note that they also rallied to her side, and that she made adjustments too – just like Johnson.

    And Raydor’s approach to solving crimes is different than Johnson’s – but that is an evolution in actual law enforcement practice in the real world.

    I am sorry that you have written off Major Crimes, TV Man – but, given the ratings from last season, as long as the costs don’t go significantly higher, and the demo ratings don’t touch 0.4 for an extended period of time (see, King & Maxwell, cancelled after one season last year with a lot of 0.4’s mixed with 0.5’s), Moshe and I will have Captain Raydor around for a few years longer, and McDonnell will still be around for you to kick around, and complain about here (ain’t America wonderful!)

    Happy New Year – I get to watch the last episode of Major Crimes today, when there’s absolutely nothing on broadcast that’s new (thank you, OnDemand!!)

    (As an aside, Martin Milner also was one of Friday’s partners on the radio version of Dragnet – you won’t recognize him there, compared to his work on Adam-12.)

  • Sally

    Sorry TVMan, but the numbers don’t support your position. MCs numbers for total live viewers have been consistently in the 4-5 millions. I was a huge TC fan, but love MC even better and love Mary McDonnell. Pretty sure that most people who know her (including her numerous co-stars over the years) regard her as an exceptional actress. So, you don’t have to watch, but don’t think that you speak for the majority of watchers.

  • Moshe

    @cimmer @theacme #SixSeasonsAndAMovie I can get behind that.

    And FWIW, I was *not* a TC fan, I found that shows tone and the lead rather unwatchable. I started watching MC because I really admired McDonnell’s work in other shows, and fell in love with the other characters, and the darker, more serious tone of the new show.

  • Alan

    Lol on Breaking Bad not killing it and dissolving it :)

  • L

    Great numbers for RHOBH and VR!

  • Dan S

    For non sports fans like myself Major Crimes was a welcome relief among a sea of reruns. Getting a 0.8 this week shows this show will be around for awhile & will definitely see syndication like its predecessor.
