It's a New Year and the Cancellation Bear is back!

When the CW announced its mid-season schedule ending the scheduled run for Beauty & The Beast on March 10th, with no scheduled return date for the remaining episodes that was the final nail in the coffin for the sophomore series (as if its CW lowest ratings weren't enough).

When will the remaining episodes air? The bear has no idea. How many fantastic scenarios can delusional commenters come up with why the show isn't certain to be canceled? The bear's not sure he can count that high.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

  • Charmed

    Love that Carrie has 1.00 :D

  • omabin

    Nip ticking again lol (I promise not on purpose) but Beauty and the Beast is a sophmore, not a freshman!

  • Dochas

    I caught up on BaTB over winter break when all of my shows were on hellatus. I still have no idea how it got renewed. I think the writing is horrible,the acting is wooden and the CGI, editing and directing is horrible. I just don’t know. I wasn’t a fan of TSC or Britt Robertson but that show was better, IMO.

    “Nip ticking again lol (I promise not on purpose) but Beauty and the Beast is a sophmore, not a freshman!”

    Indeed. I blame the onset of senility. Now fixed (the text, not the senility).

  • Bia

    Prepare for the “Beastie invasion.” They will get here anytime now, and bombard the comment section with stuff like: you dunno if this is gonna happen / shut up, bear… you just want attention / BATB is an international phenomenon ? plus some endless blah blah blah that would serve as a great inspiration for a Ke$ha song…

  • Byrd

    Nah, I’m going to miss it though. Wish it was getting better ratings. But maybe it the CW head of programming’s daughter/grand-daughters’ favorite show.

  • One

    Arrow is safe. That is all that matters to me. Good day.

  • Shepherd

    I expect to see more TCD fans angry over the “de facto cancelled” than beasties today. I think fans of BATB have begun to accept reality.

  • merrrranga

    shh! you might scare ‘em away… and it’s just too much fun!

  • PRW

    Su: Whose Line Is It Anyway? (expanded to an hour, repeats at 9 PM)

  • Tom

    I’m saving a copy of this column for posterity. It’s been a long time coming. It still baffles me how the CW could have greenlit and then renewed a series as conspicuously deficient as BATB.

  • Bia

    @Shepherd

    TCD’s status has been “de facto cancelled” for more than a month now… everyone knows it’s pretty much gone. And TCD fans have never been as passionate (or “cray cray” as some would rather put it) as beasties. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why their show is getting cancelled. Although no voting, PCAs, petition would be able to save TCD… that show is a major train wreck. Well, to begin with, never in my life I have seen a show that depicted the 80s so badly as TCD! That’s reason enough to send it packing. Another stupid sad attempt at making money on SatC’s expenses.

  • Shepherd

    @Bla

    TCD has been listed as de facto cancelled for much longer than a month, but that hasn’t stopped the crazy fans from complaining so far. Other than the CW announcing their spring schedule, I haven’t really seen many Beasties this season.

    ymmv

  • Charmed

    TCD will be renewed :D

  • Cory

    @Charmed

    …and Smallville is coming back :eyeroll:

  • steven

    im just confused why does all the ratings get cleared ? like its from scratch again ? sorry im a bit slow at this stuff sometimes lol and does the previous ratings not count anymore ?

  • Bia

    @Shepherd

    Don’t wanna say this out loud, but here it goes: there’s a lot of x-beasties out there. Yeah: former beasties that gave the boot to the show. Well, I don’t blame them… the show has gotten so, but so, so, so, so bad.

    @Cory

    LMFAO!

  • THE OLD MAN

    BATB is definite bear chow

    @ steven

    The winter/spring cycle gives a more accurate picture of what the masses are actually watching. The fall cycle is stacked w/ more “event” programming for series to lure those who normally wouldn’t tune in (or something to that effect).

  • Charmed

    I still watch BATB, but tbh it should be cancelled. Season 1 was fun and cute, this season is way too action-y. I liked the procedural episodes. The only good thing about the show now is Tess.

  • Charmed

    My guess for Friday next season

    8pm ANTM / The Carrie Diaries / Who’s Line
    9pm Hart Of Dixie
