It's a New Year and the Cancellation Bear is back!

As 2013 ended, the ratings for Almost Human hadn't stopped falling. While bear doesn't predict future ratings,  those expecting a New Year's ratings rebound for Almost Human may wish to redouble their sacrifices to whatever gods they favor. Any more relative ratings declines and it'll be added to the bear's menu.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Why not just post the new (bad)ratings instead of creating silly fake suspense?

    Why not just post the new (bad)ratings instead of creating silly fake suspense?

    The R/C index posts are written (and usually posted) before the Monday ratings are out.

    All who do not commence viewership of Almost Human will indeed be sacrificed to the Eldritch Demon Lord Televisiono. [lol]

    (I dunno, does that sound a little over the top, even for me?)

    Well, it was up, but not by much. That’s what I get for sacrificing a “virgin” instead of an actual virgin. ;)

    @PRW
    Please stop making these silly schedules. You’re embarrassing yourself

  • Cory

    DADS WON’T BE CANCELED, THE BEAR IS DUMB (Sarcasm a la TCD fans on the CW thread)

  • THE OLD MAN

    Really good picture there, Bill.

    “I’d like to teach the world to sing…”

  • American

    @TheOldMan
    “…in perfect harmony, I’d like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company…”

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

    If you incorporate the 1.7 Almost Human earned yesterday, the averages on the table go up 11% (And will go up more, as nothing besides The Simpsons has hit a over a 3.5 all year).

    *Disclaimer* I do not know the EXACT methodology used in the renew/cancel index, I simply added the 1.7 average into the equation.

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ American

    It’s the real thing!

    If you folks think that AH is out of cancelation danger, well you better think again, just because it goes from 1.8 to 1.6 to 1.7, that is still a danger zone, unless it can pick up audience big time, don’t consider it being renewed for a 2nd season, I know how networks like FOX work.

  • omabin

    I don’t know why everyone is so sudden to write off Almost Human here. The show is performing at 85% of FOX’s drama average and 95% of FOX’s overall scripted average. That’s decent enough to be regarded as a bubble show that really could go either way. Besides, I think this could be the opposite of that pre X-Factor season in which all marginal dramas but Fringe got canned – if FOX kills X-Factor and sends Glee to Fridays they will have a lot of hours to replace in the fall (4.5 at least). Will they really want to replace a 5th? It could go either way…

  • PRW

    Also before anyone asks me about Sundays, it would be a long game of using those slots for live action comedies. I just don’t think Dads and Mindy are the ones to help jump start that move.

  • ToXiX

    If Almost Human is renewed I see it airing on Fridays for its 2nd season (like Touch)
    Don’t watch AH or care if its renewed though.

  • PRW

    AH is going to be hard to schedule next year, but I put int at Thursday as this would be a post XF/AI year and it doesn’t hurt to keep it around and try it there given the pedigree of the show.

  • azentropy

    I’m really liking Almost Human, so that probably means it will be cancelled or not picked up for next season.

  • Potato

    If The Following craters and rake bombs, almost human gets renewed.

  • Rebecca

    @THE OLD MAN
    “….what the world wants today….that’s the way it will stay….” (I THINK those are the next words!)

    Dang it, Raising Hope. Oh well, I will enjoy what’s left if this winds up being its final season.

  • Marc

    Still feel that Dads has a chance of being renewed, it’s not getting horrible ratings!

    and as Marvel bleeds views, dads was picking some up
