It's a New Year and the Cancellation Bear is back!

As 2013 ended, the ratings for Almost Human hadn't stopped falling. While bear doesn't predict future ratings,  those expecting a New Year's ratings rebound for Almost Human may wish to redouble their sacrifices to whatever gods they favor. Any more relative ratings declines and it'll be added to the bear's menu.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

 certain to be cancelled by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Almost Human is going to be like Terra Nova…. a nail bitter til the end.

They should just put Coca Cola stickers on all the robots, and then collect some money from Coke.

  • Sam

    >Fox picking up 15 new shows next year, more than any other broadcast network did last year, despite having 5 hours less to program
    >Fox canceling Idol and X Factor in one fell swoop
    >Fox keeping not a single show on all the way through Fall to Spring
    >Fox programming a full lineup of original top end programming all the way through the summer
    >Fox ending its entire Animation Domination lineup next season
    >You’re hilarious

  • Chris_SAdvisor

Yes, if it improves it will survive. After the mid-season premier, we can clearly see that their A-game is suitable for the CW only. I would give it a 20% chance of improving.

  • PRW

There is no reason to keep a new show all the way through Fall and Spring when the networks take an entire month off. Might as well end shows in December and start airing a new batch of programs in the spring.

Not to mention they have to add 6 more hours due to the sings comps leaving the schedule which WILL happen.

  • Dr13

I figured from the start that Almost Human, from the makers of Fringe, would inherit Fringe’s close calls for renewal/cancel each season. Why is Brooklyn 9-9 smiling when they just predicted its cancellation?

  • PRW

Cause the bubble watch isn’t being done correctly anymore

  • Greg

I think Almost Human will be renewed. It’s not doing incredibly well, but it’s doing decently and much better than The X Factor.

On a side note: is FOX seriously planning to air originals during Winter Olympics? Are they insane?

  • milo

The fresh start on numbers will show how bad Glee is really doing, in the fall the average was inflated by the one tribute episode which was way above all the others.

  • Big Daddy

X factor — worst move fox made… they got into the singing competition too late and now might suffer schedule wise after giving it so many hours

  • HeadlessHorseman

    That’s why I like Almost Human. :)

I sure do miss Terra Nova though. :(

  • Ultima

On a side note: is FOX seriously planning to air originals during Winter Olympics? Are they insane?

ABC and CBS will be airing originals during the Winter Olympics as well, not necessarily every show and every night, but they can’t just air repeats for 18 nights during sweeps.

  • Dan

I doubt Almost Human will be renewed. FOX already has Sleepy Hollow, Glee, probably Bones and a couple of new series for fall and next spring, they don’t need AH unless they want it to die on Fridays.

Its funny that all 4 comedies got similarly low rated numbers but my guess is that Dads will be axed, while New Girl, Mindy Project, and Brooklyn 9-9 will all survive until next season. The rest of FOX’s comedies, Enlisted, Raising Hope, Surviving Jack, and Us & Them are all as good as dead.

FOX has ordered so many shows for next season already that they dont need to renew middling low rated series.

  • HeadlessHorseman

Though it’s not like Fox really wants to keep Glee. If they didn’t already have another season in the works, it’d be heading for the axe.

  • Networkman

I will watch The Following over 1 hour of the Olympic Games on Monday. In my opinion, The Following is must see TV.

  • Greg

Sure, but that’s why there’s filler programming (like ABC with The Taste, Super Fun Night and The Assets) and reality shows. FOX could just air American Idol and Dads and be done with it, but guess not. This can only end well for the dramas.

  • Ian9outof10

I like Almost Human a lot, and I want to see it renewed. The problem is, that rating uptick was down to a quiet night elsewhere. I think it will sink again.

plus, it was a fairly unoriginal episode, did anyone else just think it was Saw for Sci-fi?

  • whoizyou

If u guys dont watch Almost Human you are all idiots. Have a nice day.

  • atomicfireball

I think they waited way too long to show the Larroquette and Carano episode and showing the preview so early didn’t help matters. It was hyped up by the show’s producers and PR as the episode of the season only for Fox to shove it all the way back to the finale. By the finale it’s a little to late to hype guest stars for a ratings boost.

  • GeekGirl

Even though they keep using bits of the background music from Knight Rider, I think Almost Human is well worth a save. I LOVE Michael E.’s character (plus he’s hot). Karl could use a few more acting lessons but Mikey carries him. Plus, being a geek, I LOVE the concept. I think, like many now great shows that had a rough start, they just need to shake out the bugs and, hopefully, watch the viewership grow.
