@MBMom Question for a Wisconsin native: at this time of the year are your men walking around in polo shirts and women in sleeveless, backless dresses as the natives of Genoa City do?

  • jonboy

Can’t help but think the recent publicity will bring curious viewers to take a look and boost ratings.

  • MBmomof3

@jonboy, lol. I have commented before that women in corporate Wisconsin do not go braless, backless, sleeveless, etc. especially in winter. The way Phyllis used to run around with practically nothing but an apron on at work is ridiculous. I don’t care how cutting-edge the field you work in is, that just isn’t done! Polos, tees, etc? Hell it was -40 yesterday. I bring back up layers to the office.

I agree that all the recent publicity will be good for ratings even if people tune out once BM and MM leave. Hopefully, there will be some looky-loos wanting to know what all the commotion is about. I will say MM’s performance the last few days have been pretty good and I will miss his acting. I’ve been pretty vocal on my personal opinion that he wouldn’t have been fired without cause, so unless I want MM’s fans to hurl a chit storm at me I’ll shut up on the matter.

  • MBmomof3

MM’s scene with Victor in the car yesterday was so awesomely creepy. Would have loved to been on that set.

jonboy…I lived in Northern WI for the first 23 years of my life. The wardrobe dept for YR definitely has the outerwear down, but no, not a lot of the folks where I lived would wear short sleeves inside. Some, but not a lot. I still think their cast looks great though so like everything else, you need to suspend disbelief a little.

MBmom…Yes, the Eric B and Michael M scenes in the SUV were Emmy worthy. Great job. I hope these writers keep it going, or at least have moments like this that we rarely saw under Josh G.

Even if the soap ratings are very late, at least they are still published good or bad.
There is something sports related I regularly try to find ratings from (won’t go into detail on a soap board) and I can’t find them. So I assume they are not good since they are not published.

Will DOOL be pre-empted next month because of the Olympics?

  • Mike

Dianne, At one time Jason47’s page had some of the details about how long Days would be off for the Olympics. You might check there.

  • Mike

Dianne, That doesn’t mean they are not good. Just means that no one online pays to get access to them or cares to ask for them.

Nielsen does not publish any ratings themselves. They are paid for by the production companies and networks. They release them to the websites or release them through press releases.

There are a whole lot more demos and things that are kept up with by Nielsen. We as the public just never see them.

  • Dianne

    Mike – It’s the NHL’s ratings I’m curious about.
Last year the NHL was bragging about their ratings after another lockout.
Because they were bragging last year and now it’s silent, I assume they are down now that it’s a full season.
I also visit a messageboard where quite a bit of posters try but can’t find ratings. I not blaming Neilson though. I just think the NHL is purposely not releasing them.

Now, back on topic for soaps.

  • Chrisann D

Just wondering what Days fans think of the new Will. I thought it was a good recast. Not going to miss CM. Its just me but I never really liked his acting style.

  • Lynn

Mike — I see no signs of a creative turnaround on Y&R. If anything, it’s even more boring and predicable than when JG was at the helm. SA and JP are out of their league with this show. JFP definitely so. When what’s happening backstage is infinitely more interesting than what we’re seeing on screen, then the show has a big problem. There are no viable couples to root for. Bringing on Cynthia Waltros would be a good move if they were giving her a new character to play; instead she’s playing Annie Dutton from GL. We’ve already seen that. Jill tied to a bed, another character in faux jeopardy??? Really?? Sad, repetitive, boring, emotionally vacant storytelling (and the show looks the worst it has in many, many years).

  • Mike

Lynn many of the things you are saying about Y&R are being said about the other 3 soaps on various message boards. You go to SON they are constantly complaining about the lack of rooting couples on GH and the campy writing on GH. Daytime Royalty have fans who love Days but have many fans who absolutely hate it and say they will never watch again citing unrootable couples like Daniel and Jennifer.

Many feel that Cartini are not the right fit for GH and are out of their league. The same for Gary Tomlin and Whitesell at Days. There are many that want new writers at both shows. Just visit around and you will find them. They are more numerous on some boards than on others. Daytime Confidential loves everything about GH and would never criticize it. SON’s board members pretty much hate everything about it.

It all depends on what fan you ask. We all have different taste. Y&R is not the show for you. GH is not the show for me. Just depends on what you like and don’t like.

  • Mike

    Chrisann D,

I have not seen him yet. I watch Days periodically now. Trying to get back into it. I never cared for Chandler much either. I did at first but felt the last year or so he just wasn’t giving it his best.

  • j

The new writers hopefully will end the Jill s/l soon and start something interesting with Tristan.Guy on Days was ok to me.His first day in a scene with James Scott was nice.I want to see later on his chemistry with Freddie will be like.

  • robert sprague

more bobbi and heather on gh and bring back genie francis prono and where is chad duell micheal wonderful actor way under used talet. and get heather out of the nut house so robin mattison can be on screen more often.hook her up with the jeromes some how and keep her on screen .

  • Lori Conner

These ratings will drop a lot after January 30 th 2014 when so many of the fans of Y&R will stop watching due to the firing of Michael Muhney..

  • MBmomof3

Chrisnn D, I like the new Will. There were times I liked Chandler Massey and other times I just didn’t get his acting choices and found him annoying. I am happy to finally see Lucas back on my screen. ALWAYS love Bryan Datilo.

  • PatF

I never saw CW on GL, so technically for me, and probably many other viewers she’s just an new character.

So many people are still so upset about MM, that it probably would be best for them to just turn YR off now so CBS can determine what if any impact there will be to the show.

My guess is not much. If people didn’t stop watching when Stafford left, I’m not too worried about YR’s future without this one character. Plus it is supposed to be recast.

  • jonboy

@Pat Totally agree. I can’t see Y&R sinking at the end of the month. In its 40 year history many popular actors have departed for one reason or anither….and the show remains the most watched soap. Actually I’m looking guests to David’s return as Billy. Nothing against Miller, who has been fantastic, but I always liked David. To the Wisconsin natives: you have burst my bubble! I was ready to pack up and move where people dress like summer in winter. 40 below? God bless you!

  • joshua13

I never ever thought I would ever say this but General Hospital is the best soap on right now. I am sure because the cast of gl and atwt is on it but its the best. YR is the poo so take a whiff!
