TV Ratings Wednesday: Solid Start for 'Chicago PD', 'Revolution', 'Law & Order: SVU' & 'The Middle' Return Up, 'People's Choice Awards' Down

CBS was number one in adults 18-49 and with total viewers.

On CBS, The People’s Choice Awards scored a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating down 15 percent from last year’s 2.7 adults 18-49 ratings. It was the show’s lowest rated telecast in six years.

On ABC, The Middle earned a 2.2 up 10 percent from a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating on December 11.An 8:30PM episode of  Super Fun Night scored a series low 1.5 down 17 percent from a 1.8 among adults 18-49 on December 11. A second episode in its regular 9:30PM timeslot garnered a 1.8, even with its performance on December 11Modern Family garnered matched its 3.5 on December 11.

On NBC, Revolution earned a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating up 14 percent from a 1.4 on November 20. Law & Order: SVU scored a 2.1 up 31 percent from a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating on November 20. The series premiere of Chicago P.D. garnered a 2.0 up 54 percent from a 1.3 for the premiere of Ironside last September and even with last January’s debut of Deception.  Your predictions were too pessimistic.

  • At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.     CPD was fantastic. Excellent opening number. Winner of the night is Dick Wolf. If CPD holds up, Wolf will have three renewals for next season.

    Revolution! Hope it can either maintain this number or the numbers from the first half of the season and get a 3rd season with a 4th one for syndication as this season will have a total of 45 episodes and will poissbly need one more to reach 100, making it the show that could!

    My parents thought Arrow was new last night (they haven’t watched it yet). When I saw that number my eyes went big. Then I saw the “R”.

    The PCA should have kept Kaley Cuoco, not those unfunny women from that trashy show.

    Every year NBC finds a drama to build and grow. Last year, Chicago Fire. This year, Chicago PD. NBC will be the first network in the next decade.

    I was pretty much on NBC all night yesterday. Revolution, SVU and Chicago PD were all good but next week will be there real test. Revolution will have to face Suburgatory, ABC Family comedies and the one and only American Idol and the return of Arrow. SVU will have to face Criminal Minds and American Idol while Chicago PD will have to face the return of CSI, Nashville and the highly anticipated premiere of Duck Dynasty. NBC should be lucky they have the Winter Olympics coming up.

    The 2 Broke Girls were great a hosting the PCAs.

    I believe that’s the same numbers that Chicago Fire did for its series premiere, so Chicago PD might actually work if it follows the same path from its mothership and immediately stabilizes.

    Wow those 830 #s in particular are pretty bad for SFN. Clearly ABC is just burning off the episodes at this point and the show is a goner.

    No Arrow original helped Revolution, so I’m only cautiously optimistic… although since it’s NBC I’ll take a 1.6 anyway. Overall pretty good night for television, ratings are up across the board.
