CBS announced today that the Fan Built “Five-0” initiative, where Hawaii Five-0 producers invite viewers to help build an episode to be broadcast later this season, has added additional key elements on CBS.com for fans to vote.

Starting today, viewers will be able to select wardrobe and props by voting on http://www.cbs.com/H50vote.  In upcoming weeks, viewers will be able to select featured music and the episode’s title.  Previously, viewers have voted on Scene of the Crime (winning element: Chin Ho’s High School Reunion), The Victim (winning element: Macadamia Nut Tycoon), The Murder Weapon (winning element: Five-Inch Stiletto), The Evidence (winning element: Toy Rocket), The Suspect (winning element: Struggling Illusionist) and The Takedown (winning element: Giant Maze).

From Jan. 10 - Jan. 17, viewers will be able to vote on wardrobe choices for Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim) and Kono Kalakaua (Grace Park), as well as which five-inch stiletto will be used as the murder weapon.

From Feb. 14 - Feb. 21, viewers can vote on the band whose music they want to hear featured in the episode.  Names of participating bands will be announced at a later date.

From March 7 - March 14, fans will choose the episode title from the following choices:

  • "Po'ina 'Ole" (Never Forgotten)
  • "Ho'i Hou" (Reunited)
  • "Pa'a i ke au" (Stuck in Time)
  • "He ha'ina 'ino" (Deadly Confession)
  • "Hua'i 'ia" (Unearthed)

Now in its fourth season, Hawaii Five-0 is broadcast Fridays, (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.  It is a production of CBS Television Studios.  Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are the executive producers.

Ratings ploy, much? Yeah ’cause that worked so well the last time.

Did this create this much of a ratings boost the last time they had a viewers-built episode? If any at all?

  • miracle

The last time it wasn’t a real fan built episode. We could choose the culprit out of three suspects. And no, it didn’t affect the ratings that much.

This time it will be a bit different because we can choose more details. Will it affect the ratings? Let’s see.
