CBS was number one with adults 18-49 and  total viewers.

On CBS NFL Football (Colts/Patriots) earned a preliminary 8.9 down 9 percent from a preliminary 9.8 for last Saturday's playoff game.

On NBC, the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which this year determined the U.S. Olympic team (unless the selection committee decides to ignore the results and name last year's champion to the team) scored a  0.7 adults 18-49 rating up 40 percent from last year's 0.5 on January 27, 2013.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Yes !!! Almost Human!

  • tati

Are those NFL numbers real? if so, that is underwhelming…

The game wasn’t close in the 4th quarter. New Orleans-Philly was a back and forth contest in the 4th quarter. Close games will produce better ratings than blowouts.

  • jp

the game was over by the fourth but still a good number on Saturday night. CBS should be please.

  • tested

I’d love to know what the Saints/Seahawks game got on Fox. The numbers for the overrun and Bones are actually pretty impressive when the competing AFC football game is taken into account.

  • Oneisbird

Yep Wagner was named! Us nationals aren’t Olympic trials. Shouldn’t be called that. Sorry nagasu.

  • a p garcia

Game was over for me by the half and tuned over to Figure skating.

  • Sarah

I know it will probably adjusted down, but yay Bones. :)

I think people are tired of the Pats. They are so consistently great. With all the injuries to key players and Hernandez murder trial, everyone thought this was the year they wouldn’t do much. Ha! Brady and the hoodie keep doing it. Although last night’s game was all about Blount and the running game. GO pats!

  • Rem

Considering the U.S. probably barely has a chance to medal this Olympics in Figure Skating the ratings are sort of surprising.

  • kb

If it’s Brady vs Peyton next week it will be over 50 million. If the Chargers win the numbers will be underwhelming. Maybe 42 million.

Usually, there is a big bump for the National Figure Skating Championships in Olympic years.

But with this year’s games in Sochi, and athletes likely needing to get there earlier than most Olympics to get used to what is a 9-hour time difference between Sochi and New York, this year’s figure-skating meet ran against the NFL playoffs.

If the schedule for the 2018 Winter Games forces the Nationals to be during the first full week of January, look for NBC to pressure the organizers to have the event conclude during the middle of the week instead of a weekend, to avoid NFL competition.

Besides, NBC will have Sunday-evening NFL playoff games the first two weekends of January starting next season (but with 6:40 P.M. EST starts instead of the regular-season 8:35 P.,M. start times), which might bolster the argument for a midweek figure-skating event.

To answer Sara Bibel’s comment about the U.S. Figure Skating Association naming someone other than a top-three finisher to the team for both the Olympics and World Championships, it happened.

Veteran skater Ashley Wagner, despite finishing fourth (normally, the fourth-place finisher would be an alternate and compete only if one of the top three finishers got hurt before competition began), was named to the team since she is very experienced in international competitions.

Nevertheless, if NBC is looking for figure-skating to boost Olympic ratings, they may not get it. While U.S. ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charles White are considered the odds-on favorites to win the gold medal, they may be the only Americans who get a medal in that sport at Sochi.

The winter olympics was terrible. Summer olympics are so much more memorable. Nobody even remembers anyone or anything after the winter olympics are over while superstars are created in the summer games. Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, the female gymnastics end up with major endorsement deals. I would only care about hockey in the winter games and I’m not even a big hockey fan.

Snow Border Shawn White got big endorsement deals after the Olympics. Skier Lindsey Vonn too. Not mention Apolo Anton Ohno for Speed Skating.

  • nickp91

Been watching the ice skating championships all weekend! So exciting to see who will represent USA at the Olympics!

  • jj

I know Shawn White because he looks distinctive. Looks like Carrot Top. Lol I didn’t know who Lindsey Vonn was until she was dating Tiger Woods. And I have no idea who apollo is. These people are not exactly household names.

Hope the numbers hold. GO CBS!
