Wow the coldest days and the days with the snow storms really brought in the big numbers for all 4 soaps on Monday and Tuesday.

Y&R over 6 million on Monday. But every soap lost quite a bit of viewers by Friday.

These numbers are great. It really shows that when folks are at home there is still an audience there for soaps.

Now it will be nice to see if the season to date numbers go way up to in order to reflect the increases.

If you’re an advertiser you must love seeing this along with the networks. Just loving seeing the trend of these ratings going up and this is good also. because extra people they can use this time to set up for sweeps in February and set up the juicy angles………..

  • tvnerd

I am completed pleased to see this. This to me demonstrated the quality over quantity gets ratings. Right now, all the remaining soaps seem to have the most dedicated writers, directors and cast. The divas have either left the business or have changed and become willing to work harder out of their love of the job and their soaps. I have not been a fan of JFP style but apparently others are. So I am happy for the show.

A great example. My Mother watches Y&R every day. My father is usually in the room with her but is on the computer or doing something else and doesn’t admit to watching or following the show. Yesterday he said he had to rush home to watch Y&R. I was floored and he was serious. I think he may secretly watch B&B too.

    Love these numbers……Go CBS!!!!

    Congrats to CBS!

This is great for the daytime soaps.

  • GH50

So even though GH hit a high on Tues Jan 7th, the coldest Jan 7th ever recorded, they wind up down from the previous week.

  • Jeff

ALL the soaps are doing great, and improving, and support and praise should be high for all of them. There is room for all of them to do awesome, and they are clearly making a comeback of sorts. Who cares if it was insanely cold and snowy. People still have a choice of like 100 things to watch, and when they were home, they choose the soaps. Good for them. 2 years ago, not sure if that would have been the case.

  • mrjlbrown

Very very true Jeff! I appreciate those comments. I still would like to see what these numbers would be if DVR folks like me are included. Because of my work schedule, I don’t watch all 5 episodes of GH until Saturday. Speaking of, it has been absolutely wonderful. High praise to the producers and writers of GH! Great use of history, great use of characters…I can use a little more of Faisar and Obrecht…Felicia and Mac…and the Quartermaines, but I’m liking what’s happening so far.

  • MBmomof3

What a difference a couple of years can make. Congrats to all the shows on the ratings.

I wonder if losing SOAPnet will help GH & DOOL for the long term?

  • Heather

Seems like GH has permanently settled for the 2nd place in the 18-49 demo. .

  • Mike

The shows have already written the Feb sweeps stories. Ron C was working on his back in at least December for GH as that is when they already booked Thaao Pheghlis.

Each one of them films at least 2 weeks in advance and write even farther than that in advance.

Days is actually already filming shows that will not air until May.

  • Mike

All the shows would have been much higher and none of them down if the latter part of the week didn’t have to be included. Y&R lost almost a million viewers from Monday to Friday.

And it is like comparing apples to oranges too. Last week was truly a special week with only 3 days of ratings counting. This week all 5 days counted.

  • moshane58

Big yay on soaps. All are still higher then this time last year.

  • PatF

Just seeing a 4.1 rating for any soap is shocking. But in a good way.

  • Ella

@tvnerd, My parents just emailed me about Y&R. lol. So many people seem to be loud and proud about their soaps again.

  • j

Great numbers for all the soaps.2014 is starting off on a positive note.I think.. all the soaps will conti.nue to good ratings.I like the new writers on Y&R.

  • platypus perry

Congrats to all Soaps these past few weeks..

In years past it is Very Normal to see a tremendous gain during December, however in January they usually all drop.. It is great to see the shows still staying above average compared to a few months back as well as in year to year gains.

Y&R hitting 6 Mil on Monday and up 800,000 vs same week last year and households at a high is awesome!

Days up 426,000 is great and hitting a little over a 2 year high for demo is great too.

GH still breaking that 3 mil mark easily and holding onto #2 in demo is great. Wow I really though GH was screwed when people didn’t tune in as expected for their big anniversary but one thing about GH is that they always bounce back big!

B&B doing great all around, CBS must be very proud!!!

People might say the weather this or soapnet that, only time will tell if viewership will maintain or continue to be on an upswing. However I feel all soaps will continue to atleast be up compared to last years ratings.

Not to Mention that Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful are both airing repeats nightly on TVGUIDE Channel so the fact that it is gaining on top of being available for second airings is very impressive!!!

Good Luck to all Soaps in 2014 may all soaps LIVE Averages stay above 3 million and demos higher than last year as well :) corny I know but just happy for what a lot of people were once saying the Soaps were a waste of daytime tv and a dying genre

  • Matt M.

GH hit over 3.0 million viewers every day last week. Wow. Can’t even remember the last time that happened. It’s also so close to hitting a 3.0 household rating too!

Congrats to all soaps and the entire rapidly growing daytime genre!

    Frank Valentini Tweeted this today:

Frank Valentini (@valentinifrank) Big GH Casting news coming…Stay tuned#GH

I wonder who they are adding now. We already know of several returns and that Shirley Jones is doing a guest appearance. Plus they added the new cop.

Who could this be? And how big is it that it deserves a Tweet.
