Intelligence's Tuesday 9pm premiere ratings were hopeful. Unfortunately, the show's Monday 10pm time period premiere ratings dropped by 50%, well below the survival level for a CBS rookie drama. No need for the bear to wait to make the call, Intelligence is certain to be canceled. (Note: This was written and posted before the ratings for 1/20 were available).

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

What are the odds that H50 will be moved to Sunday nights next season? If they cancel both The Good Wife and The Mentalist, I can see Hawaii Five-0 being moved to Sundays at 10pm with a new drama airing at 9pm.

  • Bill Gorman

“why Mom 2 1/2 men n TCO got 4 smiles witch means “more likely to be renewed than cancelled ” and in the other post u put them on the bauble wich means 3 smiles ?? im i missing something ??”

Because “Bubble Watch” is a different person’s predictions.

cbs should cancel tahm…it’s ratings are too low for how expensive that show is to make…i’m not sure the crazy ones is coming back either, I would have it as a toss up…

  • Shepherd

How likely is it that CBS will remove Intelligence from the schedule? I know Golden Boy aired all of its episodes, but I don’t remember how low it went; and I’m not very familiar with CBS’s tendency to yank or not yank poor performing shows.

  • Mitch

CBS needs to give up on running a serious drama against The Blacklist and Castle. Those two shows are pulling in the numbers. CBS would be better off airing reruns or a different type of show.

  • Bad Wolf

I usually don’t like rooting for a show to be canceled, but I’ll take anything which can increase The Good Wife’s renewal chances. This season has been a real nail-biter, both story wise and ratings wise for CBS’s best show, so I think I’ll stay away from Sunday’s ratings until CBS announces its 2014/2015 line-up.

The sitcoms conundrum is also fascinating, with The Crazy Ones, Mom and Two and a Half Men performing at the same level. If one or several of them have to go, I hope Two and a Half Men goes first (its appeal is still beyond me, after 11 years). Only one show can take the post-Big Bang Theory slot, there’s no other solution I know, but it’s unfair. Take The Millers away from this slot and let’s see how it does. I think CBS will leave it alone for next season to see if it grows.

The NCIS siblings are still a mystery for me too : they’ve got virtually nothing more than CSI, Blue Bloods or Criminal Minds and they’re still attracting crowds. And besides that, they both skew INCREDIBLY old, maybe not as old as Blue Bloods, but at least as old as The Good Wife, The Mentalist and Hawaii 5-0. ‘Experts’ have continually repeating that total viewers don’t matter, but in this case, total viewers numbers are precisely the saving grace of NCIS and NCIS:LA : cut these numbers in half (to be in line with the other procedurals) and see what remains among adults 18-49.

CBS’s biggest question marks : Sundays (and possibly Fridays by consequence), Monday and Thursday’s sitcoms.

  • Holly

    Not Bill but…

I think they’ll let it go for a while. They don’t have anything on deck to replace it, so it would go to repeats. I doubt they’ll produce any more episodes than are already done, but they’ll likely air what they have as long as the ratings are around what repeats would get.

  • Bill Gorman

“How likely is it that CBS will remove Intelligence from the schedule?”

Impossible to guess with any accuracy. Depends on what they think of their available alternatives which is completely invisible to me.

  • Ultima

How likely is it that CBS will remove Intelligence from the schedule?

Undercover Boss is ending mid-March and, presumably, the only hour-long left on the bench for CBS is Reckless.

My guess is that Intelligence will air all of its episodes, although it might be replaced and moved to Friday (just like last season with Golden Boy and Vegas).

  • Ultima

    @Bad Wolf
‘Experts’ have continually repeating that total viewers don’t matter, but in this case, total viewers numbers are precisely the saving grace of NCIS and NCIS:LA

Nonsense. NCIS and NCIS:LA are amongsts the highest rated dramas in Adults 18-49 on TV.

  • Shepherd

    @Ultima, Holly, Bill

Thanks. :) I had no idea what CBS has ‘in the wings’, and what-not. I never know how they might behave.

The intelligent would definitely make a quick call to cancel Intelligence as in actuality it is a no brainer.

  • Benjamin

CBS has Unforgettable. 6 episodes left in season 2, plus the 13 for season 3 if they’ve been filmed.

If I was CBS, I would keep Intelligence at 10PM Monday at least through the Olympics, switching the repeats against the Olympics to new episodes to get through it faster. If the show is still being filmed, I’d consider reducing the order. If not, oh well.

After the Olympics, how does this sound:

    8PM – The Amazing Race
9PM – Unforgettable season 2/season 3 (running through most of the Summer)
    10PM – The Mentalist

10PM – The Good Wife (give CBS a chance to try it in another slot, away from the effects of The Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones)

  • Russell

    CBS will cancel:

How I Met Your Mother (final season)
    The Mentalist
    The Crazy Ones

don’t see much hope for Friends With Better Lives but Bad Teacher could make a go of it if place on Thursday in the Spring.

I could see CBS adding 3 hours of new programming, maybe 4, if Undercover Boss is held for mid-season.

  • Valentin

The sitcoms situation is pretty hard to define. Last year, if Mom and Crazy Ones would have aired, they would’ve been both cancelled. But this year, with the average of comedies (except 2 Broke Girls/HIMYM/TBBT), all of them are trying to make it through next year. Hoping to see Mom & The Crazy Ones back for a 2nd season.

  • DonMedia

It’s kind of sad for this show, because it’s almost decent, but against The Blacklist, there’s just no oxygen left in the room. It’s certainly better than Hostages however low a bar that may be.

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

I feel like CBS should go back to one hour of comedy on Thursdays.

    2 Broke Girls
New Comedy (How I Met Your Dad?)
    Mike & Molly
    The Millers

    Big Bang Theory
    New Comedy

I have no indication of how Friends With Better Lives will do. If it is a hit, I see CBS keeping the 4 hours on Thursday and keeping one of Mom or Two and a Half Men.

According to a recent report at the hollywoodreporter web-site all 13 episodes of Intelligence have already been filmed.

  • lll

Next season CBS will alter their wednseday night lineup to fix Mondays, Sundays and other trouble spots. I can see Criminal Minds moving to Mondays or Sundays and a new show debuting at 8pm central time. CSI will remain where they are and Survivor is 50/50 on their timeslot. Like CM survivor can be stable in any slot.
