Intelligence's Tuesday 9pm premiere ratings were hopeful. Unfortunately, the show's Monday 10pm time period premiere ratings dropped by 50%, well below the survival level for a CBS rookie drama. No need for the bear to wait to make the call, Intelligence is certain to be canceled. (Note: This was written and posted before the ratings for 1/20 were available).

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

With Intelligence tanking and Reckless more than likely doing the same I think that Unforgettable should get the 10pm Monday slot…why not? It should perform better than Hostages/Intelligence

  • JOE

As for which shows will be canceled?

The obvious are already there but now I’m not sure the Mentalist will go…Solid performer and the lack of strong dramas at 10pm make it a very nice option….IMO its probably CBS’ strongest 10pm show (it or POI) and that counts.

  • Anna g

It’s not just Hostages that ruined monday night but putting two new comedies (leaving out Mike and Molly which had very decent ratings last year), shifting Broke girls and airing serialized show (about attempted murder of US president) at 10 pm was a recipe for disaster. People don’t like too many changed in the schedule. Why do you think both NCIS show have aired on Tuesdays at their respective slot for years? CBS has ruined not only mondays but also thursdays as well but that’s another story!

  • Greg

Unforgettable could go to Mondays too, but again, Undercover Boss ends on mid-March. Meanwhile, Intelligence could end on mid-April if CBS decides not to air any episodes during Winter Olympics.

  • Valentin

LOL at people saying that bc The Crazy Ones is owned by FOX, it won’t be renewed! Well, CBS shouldn’t have picked it up in the first place –‘
It has potential to grow, + is a great contender for awards (only TGW & TBBT are contenders so good point for them). It’s a self-starter and has critics acclaim! So let’s see what happens in Spring, if it stays stable (2.1-2.4 rank) and other comedies fall down (Mom or even The Millers) then it will be renewed, but if it tanks, then yeah it is cancelled!

  • Dan

@Greg – But if CBS simply aired the two Intelligence episodes during the winter Olymics on Feb 10 and 17 than Intelligence could end March 31 and Unforgettable could air its final 6 episodes April 14-May 19 having Mondays at 10 be completely repeat free. There’s no point in having Intelligence repeats when CBS could simply burn through the show.

As for Undercover Boss’s slot, Reckless would work there beginning April 4. If it aired repeat free than it would end on June 26.

  • ToXiX

The Crazy Ones, Intelligence, Hostages, & The Mentalist will be cancelled.

  • Greg

Yes, but what you’re saying is that Reckless, a freshman drama, would work in a day where CBS has already tried to slot countless other freshman dramas and they always failed disastrously. Remember Chaos? A Gifted Man? Made in Jersey? Vegas?

AND, you’re saying that CBS wouldn’t air two episodes of The Good Wife and one of The Mentalist during the season. Why would they do that?

Maybe, just maybe, CBS could slot Reckless on Fridays. It would be replaced after two airings, just like Chaos and Made in Jersey.

  • Ultima

No, The Amazing Race has always 12 episodes each season.

Yes, and two of those episodes will have already aired by 9 March.

<iCBS has 11 Sundays left, which includes one for the ACM Awards (April 06) and one for the Survivor finale (May 18). Not to mention The Amazing Race’s finale (probably May 11), which’s always from 8 to 10pm, which means no The Good Wife for that week. That leaves exactly 8 weeks for The Good Wife and 9 for The Mentalist.

Unless they have the Survivor finale on Wednesday, which leaves ten weeks for each of The Amazing Race, The Good Wife and The Mentalist, which just happens to be exactly how many episodes each will have left.

Just because CBS had a square peg to fit into a square hole the last several seasons doesn’t mean they should jam that peg into this season’s round hole.

Also, The Amazing Race finale isn’t always two hours long. Five of the past six have been, but the previous eight were only one hour long.

  • Ultima

CBS totally has hung Intelligence out to dry.

Yeah, they only gave it a massive amount of promotion during the tail end of the NFL season along with a premeire behind their highest rated drama, NCIS.

    Hostages ruined that time slot.

Because no show has ever been successful when it was preceded by a failure in its timeslot?

They have a huge hole in the schedule on Wednesdays at 8.

    Survivor?! 8O

I know people around here have short memories, but this is the most success and stability CBS has had in that timeslot in decades.

  • HV

This is what I think will happen:
    Monday @ 10:00 Intelligence (now-February 17)/Reckless (February 24-?)
    Friday @ 8:00 Undercover Boss (now-March ?)/Intelligence
    Regarding comedy renewal:
    TCO – most likely canceled
Mom & 2.5Men – one or both renewed

  • Josh

Take that Intelegince!!! Cancelations what u get for trying to create a plot that’s a copy of Chuck!!! Disgraceful trying to copy the central plot of another show and pass it off as a brad new idea, especially when that cast was so much better than yours and had to fight like hell with the help of us fans to keep chuck around for even 5 years! Can’t believe cbs even thought for a moment that show would work at all!

  • Isobel

I’m with ToXiX on cancellations, I’d give the good wife a final season, I’m sorry I don’t think it’ll get its seven seasons, but hopefully one more season will still be enough to tell the story they planned for seven seasons.

  • Paul

I see the Mentalist getting the ax and Good Wife staying. I think next season, the move to Sunday @ 10/10:30 will be Criminal Minds. Remember, there’s a new NCIS allegedly starting again and I can’t see them moving POI again to make room for it. So either one of the established NCIS shows would move to Wed @ 9 or the new one.

  • Dan

@Greg – I never said it would work, I said that 8:00 Fridays is an available slot and though plenty of other shows have failed there, well lets just say if CBS had confidence in the show to begin with, they wouldnt have held it until midseason. And if it works than great, if not well, what other slot will they try? Mondays at 10, another slot where countless dramas have failed (Hostages, Intelligence).

Even if Reckless premiered in that 8:00 slot around April, I highly doubt it will be pulled. CBS always lets their late midseason dramas burn off in the summer (CHAOS, Miami Medical, NYC 22) and after the flops theyve had this season they’ll be happy to just take what they can get. Reckless could premiere April 4 and run through June 27.

I’m also saying that The Good Wife and The Mentalist will air sundays all season, I doubt that CBS would plop a new episode anywhere else especially this late in their runs.

  • Dan

@Toxix – I agree on your cancellations. For a while I thought the Good Wife was a definite cancellation but there’s a very slim possibility that CBS will give it a final season. If not than it can join the other cancellations.

  • Aok98

I like Intelligence, sorry it’s not doing better.

  • Aok98

This is a nice think about a DVR. I can record all three 10 PM programs on Monday and watch later.

What huge hole at 8pm on Wednesdays? Survivor is one of the networks top performing shows. If memory serves me correctly, last season was getting 8-9 million viewers, 2.2-2.6 18-49 on average. When you were speaking about this ‘huge hole’ were you talking about another network perhaps? CBS is fine on Wednesdays at 8pm.
