Intelligence's Tuesday 9pm premiere ratings were hopeful. Unfortunately, the show's Monday 10pm time period premiere ratings dropped by 50%, well below the survival level for a CBS rookie drama. No need for the bear to wait to make the call, Intelligence is certain to be canceled. (Note: This was written and posted before the ratings for 1/20 were available).

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

CBS is NOT going to air two new dramas on a Sunday, nor are they going to air a new one on Fridays at 8pm.

I think the last time CBS scheduled two new dramas on a Sunday was like………….never.
Sunday is clearly part of the retirement plan and CSI or Elementary would find themselves there before two new shows.

Undercover Boss is doing quite well on Fridays, why would they possibly move a new show there after Made in Jersey and A Gifted Man???

  • Barbie

YAY!!!!! I foresee a new arc for Red in Once Upon a Time soon! <3

  • Barbie

I doubt CBS is going to mess with its Wednesday or Friday. It’s one of their most steady nights. Elementary would be my Sunday guess.

  • AP076

    I agree Barbie.
Elementary this year with cancellation of The Mentalist and who knows the following year, CSI with the cancellation of The Good Wife :-)

  • Dan

CBS wouldn’t air 2 new dramas on Sundays. Say if Mentalist and Good Wife are both cancelled along with Hostages/Intelligence. That would be 3 open slots.

CBS could move Elementary to Sundays at 10, Hawaii 5-0 to Sundays at 9. Making a veteran Sunday.

They could then move CSI to Fridays at 9 and Keep Blue Bloods at 10 maintaining new new drama on either Sunday or Friday.

Then because Monday at 10 is a death slot for CBS and NBC will try something new post Voice next season, This leaves CBS to move Person of Interest to Mondays at 10 to have a reliable veteran in the slot.

Using this logic if CBS moves NCIS LA to Tuesdays at 10 than they have a drama slot, Tuesday at 9 (sandwiched between the 2), Thursdays at 10 and Wednesdays at 10.

These would be a lot of moves for CBS dramas however one must understand that Sundays at Fridays are for veteran dramas making syndication and never for new shows as is Mondays at 10. A New drama should air Wed at 10 because CSI has aired there 2 long and CM is a good lead out show. Also a new drama should be tested post NCIS because a drama airing at 10 is risky (remember Unforgettable, Vegas and Golden Boy). Also Thursdays at 10 is a good slot for a drama.

    So maybe for next season

    8:00 The Amazing Race
    9:00 Hawaii 5-0
    10:00 Elementary

8:00 How I Met Your Dad
    8:30 2 Broke Girls
    9:00 Mike & Molly
    9:30 Mom
    10:00 Person of Interest

    8:00 NCIS
9:00 NCIS NO or NEW DRAMA
    10:00 NCIS LA

    8:00 Survivor
    9:00 Criminal Minds
    10:00 NEW DRAMA

    8:00 The Big Bang THeory
    8:30 NEW COMEDY
9:00 Two and a Half Men (Final season)
    9:30 The Millers
    10:00 NEW DRAMA

    8:00 Undercover Boss
    9:00 CSI
    10:00 Blue Bloods

2 new comedies for midseason, 2 new dramas for midseason.

*Note this is not a fantasy schedule, its simply a schedule in which CBS might benefit in finding some new hits, while relocating veterans to some troubled slots.

  • Rollie Dethloff

    9:00 Hawaii Five-O (22)
    10:00 Criminal Minds (22)

  • The Crazy One

I see 2.5 men to get axed. CBS can bank a large syndication cheque thanks to almost 250 episodes that terrible unfunny show (not to mention CBS will save a truckload because of its $1,000,000 + contracts from the main cast)

It could be interesting to see how Mum and Crazy Ones go. If depends on how much comedy hours and how much new stuff they want to try. I think they both get the thumbs up for renewal (maybe with 1 being a mid-season or summer filler show). If one has to face the axe then (very sadly) it’s the Crazy Ones (dam Lorre).

  • Josh

Can’t believe Chuck made it back on TV with CBS, it’s too bad it’s gone again. Wait, oh Intelligence is the show. Good try.

  • CBSviewer

    @ Dan

CBS could move Elementary to Sundays at 10, Hawaii 5-0 to Sundays at 9

If Elementary moves to Sunday, it will be at 9. Concerning Hawaii Five-0, CBS won’t move it two years in a row.

CBS usually moves two dramas and one comedy. I can see Elementary, Criminal Minds (unlikely but possible based on their summer schedule) and The Millers going to other nights/time next season.

  • Mia

It’s sad but now Ruby can return to OUAT now, which I cant wait.

  • k:Alex

    8:00 The Amazing Race
    9:00 CSI
10:00 The Good Wife (Final season)

    8:00 2 Broke Girls
    8:30 The Millers
9:00 [NEW] How I Met Your Dad (New Single-cam)
    9:30 [NEW] COMEDY Single Cam
    10:00 NCIS:LA

Create a single cam block, CBS wants single cam comedy, this is a safe spot to try.

    8:00 NCIS
    9:00 [NEW] NCIS:NO
    10:00 Person of Interest

I don’t think they will move POI again, it’s a stable show and that’s what CBS needed.

    8:00 Survivor
    9:00 Criminal Minds
    10:00 [NEW] Battle Creek

A decent slot for a new drama.

    8:00 The Big Bang Theory
    8:30 [NEW] COMEDY
9:00 Two and a Half Men (Final season)
    9:30 [NEW] The McCarthys
    10:00 [NEW] DRAMA

    8:00 Undercover Boss
    9:00 Hawaii 5-0
    10:00 Elementary

    Elementary could survive until syndication.

    The Crazy Ones
The Mentalist (short final season renew, because of the drama disaster this season)

    3 New Drama’s and 4 new comedies

    Blue Bloods
Mom (if it hits 1.8, i’m sure it’s ready to cancel)

  • Bill

There not going to cancel Blue Bloods over The Mentalist

  • Ultima

I think the last time CBS scheduled two new dramas on a Sunday was like………….never.

CBS had two freshman dramas on Sunday nights in winter/spring 1985; however, only Murder, She Wrote was on the fall schedule, Crazy like a Fox wasn’t added until midseason.

  • Ultima

    @The Crazy One
CBS can bank a large syndication cheque thanks to almost 250 episodes

Two and a Half Men is produced by Warner Bros.; CBS doesn’t get any of the syndication money.

I do agree that this will probably be the final season. There’s simply no reason for Warner Bros. to eat the big salaries at this point and I don’t see any reason for CBS to do so either. Given the sharp decline in ratings, I wouldn’t be surprised if CBS is already losing money on the show.

  • Ultima

    @Rollie Dethloff

    8:00 Survivor

    8:00 The Amazing Race

    10:00 Criminal Minds (22)

Criminal Minds is CBS second highest rated drama…

    9:00 CSI (22)

    … CSI is not.

  • Dan

@CBS Viewer – If CBS moves Elementary why would it have to be at 9? It airs now 10pm Thursday a move to 10pm Sunday isnt difficult, thats what happened with The Mentalist.

Regarding Hawaii 5-0, OK so CBS can keep H50 and BB as they are on Fridays and move CSI to Sundays at 9. I just think the Wed 10pm slot is wasted on CSI when CBS could use the Criminal Minds lead in to launch a new drama. The competition would be Nashville and whatever NBC airs in the slot next year so the new drama might have a chance.

I see CSI working better Fridays at 9 (In its original slot I think) and Hawaii 5-0 being a sunday show but CSI airing Sundays and H50 staying on Fridays seems fine, either way.

All I know for CBS is that syndication veterans with below average ratings (CSI, Elementary, Hawaii 5-0 and Blue Bloods) belong on Sundays and Fridays. New dramas belong mid week, Tues-Thur.

Another thing for CBS is their moves this year clearly are not working. The Mentalist and The Good Wife have overstayed their welcome and SUndays need a change (2 veteran dramas need to be moved there) Also a veteran needs to be aired Monday at 10 because clearly a new drama wont survive their (POI is a good bet) Also having 3 high rated dramas on one night didnt work (NCIS, NCIS LA, and POI) I mean ratings are good but if CBS wants a hit next season they might want to consider moving NCIS LA in the troubled 10pm Tues slot and launching either the NCIS spinoff or a new drama sandiwhiched in the 9pm slot. Wed needs a new drama out of CM and Thurs at 10 could use a new drama, Fridays can stay put.

Comedy wise if Two and a Half Men ends up being renewed and CBS keeps 2 new comedies from this season (Mom and The Millers look like a lock, sorry The Crazy Ones) than instead of doing the stupid thing that networks tended to do this season and bench a show for midseason (when it clearly should have been on the fall schedule seriously did We Are Men need to exist at all?) CBS might want to consider just 1 new comedy on each night.

Start Monday with the HIMYM spinoff in its old slot and keep the lineup as is 2BG, M&M, and Mom followed by veteran POI at 10. Doing a revamp of the night never works.

Have Thursday start with Big Bang than a new comedy and have Two and a Half Men (If renewed) air at 9 and The Millers at 9:30.

I think the stability of 2 new comedies in the fall, is better for CBS because if one fails CBS can simply just have a replacement by spring.

There is a chance Two and a Half Men wont be renewed and I’m acknowledging that, If Men isnt renewed than there is a chance Friends With Better Lives could be and maybe it could air Mondays and by next season maybe Mom or Mike & Molly can move to Thursdays.

The Crazy Ones has no chance. Below average numbers + Owned by FOX (No syndication revenue) + Robin Williams salary + Expensive Single Camera comedy in general = cancellation. Its not a flop and it is a good effort but it just doesnt justify CBS putting up with the show for 3 more seasons.

  • Kevin

I had a feeling Intelligence wasn’t long for this world when one of its stars – formerly the sexy werewolf on Once Upon a Time – started making noises about going back to OUAT. I actually had no idea the show was starting so soon so I missed the first two episodes before I realized it had started. My first impression when I first heard about it was that it’s a riff on Chuck with some of The Pretender tossed into the mix. That may not be the case but that was my first impression, just as I dismissed Almost Human as a remake of Holmes & Yo-Yo/Mann & Machine.

  • aral

Dan just hates the crazy ones lol TCO has average numbers. Mom is a lock but it has below average numbers? Um okaay.
