Intelligence's Tuesday 9pm premiere ratings were hopeful. Unfortunately, the show's Monday 10pm time period premiere ratings dropped by 50%, well below the survival level for a CBS rookie drama. No need for the bear to wait to make the call, Intelligence is certain to be canceled. (Note: This was written and posted before the ratings for 1/20 were available).

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @ Dan

If CBS moves Elementary why would it have to be at 9?

Elementary is owned by CBS and 9PM is a much better slot on Sunday. There it would benefit from TAR lead-in.

It airs now 10pm Thursday a move to 10pm Sunday isnt difficult, thats what happened with The Mentalist.

For its last season on Thursday, The Mentalist averaged 2.6 and fell to 1.7 when it moved to Sunday. Moving to Sunday is very difficult !

The Crazy Ones has no chance. Below average numbers

The Crazy Ones averages 2.4 so far which is ABOVE CBS average.

Owned by FOX (No syndication revenue)

CBS doesn’t own The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Mom, The Millers, Mike & Molly and 2 Broke Girls.

    Robin Williams salary

According to TV Guide, Robin Williams earns $165,000 per episode which is nothing compared to Ashton Kutcher’s $800,000 per episode. Both shows have similar ratings.

    @The Crazy One & Ultima:

I totally agree on 2.5 Men..I watch that show on DVD as each season comes out, and I was able to get caught up through the most recent season thanks to having gotten Season 10 for Christmas. The first half of the season wasn’t terrible but the 2nd half was where you can see the show really tanking HARD. There was one great episode the 2nd half of the season and to me it was the best one of the whole season..when that’s happening, 1 out of 23 episodes being good to great there’s problems. Big problems.

From the very little I’ve seen in passing this season..well..I’ve watched the 10 seasons of it produced so far and I’ll watch through to the end but what I have seen of it this year has been awful. Like cringe worthy awful. I love multi-cam comedies, and I have no problems with the typical sitcom conventions and cliches. I can handle any story arc, no matter how corny or silly they throw into a multi-cam but for the first time in my life I’m cringing at a multi-cam..this show how it is right now.

2.5 Men is basically at the point just immediately before a person keels over dead. It’s had a very long life but it’s clearly tired, done and wants to rest. Les, please do the right thing and finally cancel it. The only reason to renew it, the only reason would be so it can say it lasted longer than Happy Days did. I know a sitcom will eventually outlast it but this show doesn’t deserve to be that show. Big Bang Theory is much more worthy of that from what I’ve seen of it. Two of the cast members are now 70 and probably getting tired too. Jon Cryer is set for the rest of his life thanks to this and will get syndication royalty checks for years and so will you. Just please decide against renewal now so the writers have time to whip up a somewhat respectable series finale. It’s for the best. You don’t wanna be trying to constantly use the paddles on it every season after it drops dead just because. Let it die in peace.

Warner Bros could easily lower licensing fees for the show for another season if CBS wants to cancel it. They’ll more than make it up long term with the syndication dollars.

Also, the salary numbers that are constantly thrown around here are for last season, which had Angus T. Jones who is no longer on the show. Jon Cryer got a slight pay raise this year for season 11, but Angus T. Jones also got the boot and Amber Tamblyn doesn’t cost nearly as much as he does. The show is expensive, but not as expensive as some claim.

Quality wise, S11 is far better than S10.

It could very well end this season, but it won’t be a cut and dry decision. I think of every show on TV right now, this one is the biggest bubble show.

  • CBSviewer

I think there’s no way Two and a Half Men gets a 12th season. Ashton Kutcher earns $750,000 par episode and Jon Cryer $650,000 per episode. It makes 1.4 million for them and there’s the other cast members to pay.
The Show is getting very expensive and its ratings are falling.

Damn. I really liked Intelligence. The characters need some development, but I thought it could end up being a good show.
