The 2014 ratings for Almost Human indicate it's likely to be renewed, but Fox's scheduling of the show, and their silence, point the other direction. The two together are keeping the cancellation bear's prediction at "toss up" for now.

Fox scheduled an episode of the show as the only original scripted episode aired on the network for the week ending December 22. It's being bumped for the next two weeks for the 2 hour finale of Sleepy Hollow (after originally being scheduled to precede the penultimate episode) and the premiere of The Following.  Perhaps both are explainable for scheduling logistics purposes, but that's typically not how networks schedule shows they plan on renewing.

When the show returns on February 3 it will have only a few episodes remaining of its original order and Fox has yet to announce either a back order, or what will happen to its timeslot after its 13 episodes finish. That should be worrying to fans.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

No, they can’t cancel Almost Human. I love it.

  • ToXiX

AH will be a interesting one. The true definition of a bubble show.

  • Dan

My guess is Almost Human never needed a backorder due to scheduling reasons. If FOX holds Bones after its January 31st airing and premieres Kitchen Nightmares in the Friday 8pm slot than Bone scan air its remaining 8 episodes Mondays beginning March 10 after Almost Human finishes up.

Since Almost Human premiered late it could be considered more of a midseason show than fall which is why FOX doesnt have to announce it as being capped at 13 eps or not getting a back order when they dont really have the room.

  • LisaM

Shows get no time to find their audiences. I am hoping Almost Human succeeds in time.

  • Johnny

This show is costing way too much money for these types of low ratings. Even Charlie Brown beat them… TWICE! They messed up by not being ready to begin with and then showing episodes out of order. Such a rookie move. J.J.’s name is gonna be mud if they keep showing this show.

  • jj

    hope it gets canceled

  • matthew brown

Hopefully if fox does not renew then another channel will pick it up, this show is way to good to end in 1 season.. I believe other companies have up to 60 days to decided before the actors can sign on with different shows or movies

  • were123

Almost Human’s rating are better than many of others FOX’s shows. I think they should renew it for yet another 13 episodes season and air it either on its same Monday timeslot along with Sleepy Hollow or on Fridays with Bones

The more I watch this show, the more I love it. I don’t understand networks thinking behind some of their decisions. It’s takes a few episodes to get ppl to tune in. I didn’t started watching until the 4th episode and I only noticed the show b/c the advertisement on hulu. I have seen previews of some of their upcoming shows. None of them have “hooked” me. Rake seems iffy. Enlisted is a bomb. Brooklyn 99 growing on me. I just hope tk a look at how “almost human”ratings have trended upward the last cple of episodes. Fingers crossed :•[

I guess there’s Gotham and hieroglyph and backstrom so fox may say it doesn’t need Almost Human, which is sad because I agree the show is great, especially the Dorian and Kennex partnership

  • skyfi

Who said Almost Human must have 22 episodes to survive? It premiered nearly midseason, and like ABC’s V can get second season without backorder…

  • James

Almost Human was initially paired up with Sleepy Hollow for one more week in January, but the ratings in 2013 made FOX worried and pushed back Almost Human in favor of Sleepy Hollow’s finale and The Following’s premiere. What’s so weird is that Almost Human saw an uptick in ratings after this decision was made.

  • CBSviewer

If FOX plans to end Bones and Glee next season they will probably renew Almost Human. It’s not a disaster and it seems to have stabilized around 1.8.

This could be FOX Schedule next season:

    8:00 – GOTHAM
    9:00 – Sleepy Hollow / The Following

    8:00 – Brooklyn Nine-Nine
    8:30 – NEW COMEDY
    9:00 – New Girl
    9:30 – NEW COMEDY

    8:00 – The X-Factor / American Idol

    8:00 – NEW DRAMA / American Idol
    9:00 – Almost Human

    8:00 – Bones
9:00 – Glee (13 episodes, Final Season) / Masterchef Jr.

    8:00 – The Simpsons
    8:30 – NEW ANIMATION
    9:00 – Family Guy
    9:30 – Bob’s Burgers

  • Dan

@CBS Viewer – I figured a very similar schedule but if Rake gets renewed it could land on Thursdays, and I’m not so sure about Glee moving to Fridays.

If Almost Human gets renewed my guess is that like other bubble dramas (Touch, Human Target), FOX will put it on fridays.

  • Networkman

FOX would be wise to keep Almost Human. It has great potential and I think it is finally catching on. Michael Ealy is brilliant in his role. The show had the hard task of going against The Voice, CBS’s establish comedies, DWTS and Monday Night Football. It is gaining traction, hitting 2.0 demo without any help from a lead-in. People are realizing that it is not a just a complex sci-fi show but an action oriented buddy cop procedural. Bones and Glee are on there way out. The comedies on Tuesday are weak. Almost Human could serve the network well for a couple of seasons if they nurture it.

  • John

Almost Human: Very good show, and getting better every week. Interesting science fiction, interesting writing, great acting, excellent special effects. I am expecting Fox to keep this show, because the ratings are on an upswing, and it is the only show on Fox that is of a science fiction theme, at present. Everything else is either reality tv, or another tired police procedural. Also, for reasons I know nothing about, it seems Fox is a little fond of the “Bad Robot”, and its programming! Cheers!

  • CBSviewer

    @ Dan

I don’t think FOX will move Almost Human to Friday. It’s not strong enough. Look at Touch, Fringe and Raising Hope: they all collapsed.
Plus, Glee is already dead and the Friday comedies are not working.

  • Ashley

FOX needs to give up on X Factor. It’s not taking off in the ratings and it’s hurting American Idol. They should give scripted shows 9 or 13 episode orders in the fall to fill the schedule until American Idol. It worked so well for Sleepy Hallow and The Following by allowing for tighter storytelling.

  • T C Tirado

Smart show, clever premise. I’ll miss it if it is cancelled.

  • Kris

Great original show, love the interaction between man and machine. Very disappointed this past Monday when it was replaced by a 2 hour special of Sleepy Hollow. Just turned off FOX and went to bed.
