It's still early in 2014, but Reign fans should be encouraged that after one episode, the show's better rated than the first two 2014 episodes of The Tomorrow People.

Besides the shows predicted as certain renewals by the Cancellation Bear, the CW will renew at least one more show (and quite possibly two more). The cancellation bear will catch The Tomorrow People before it catches Reign.

Why doesn't the bear move his Reign prediction to "likely renewed" right now? He's waiting to see the results for Star Crossed and The 100. Those results might also cause a change in his prediction for The Tomorrow People.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @Brandy

    Oh, yeah. I hardly even consider TO a new show since it’s been a lock for renewal basically since its premiere.

    @eelna

    Many think Star-Crossed will flop primarily because of the poor time-slot without much of a lead-in (unlike The 100, which gets Arrow as lead-in.)

    Few have faith in it being a self-starter, and thus predict it being DOA.

    @tedtalks

    The only reason Reign is still on the bubble is because we don’t yet know how the midseason shows will do (at least not for sure, but we can of course make an educated guess). It has nothing to do with retention.

  • Jared

    Once The Tomorrow People moves to Mondays it will get crushed by the competition and the ratings will take a major hit. As far as Reign goes the ratings are ok but move it out of the post TVD slot and see what happens. Reign is doing exactly what BATB did last season. Personally looking forward to Star Crossed and The 100.

  • Kougie757

    I don’t think anyone can say Reign will be the next BATB just yet. Keep in mind that BATB premiered to a 1.2 and then dropped to a .5, indicating poor response by viewers. Therefore, it could be assumed that moving the show would cause the people who weren’t die hard fans to not watch it. Reign has been received with much more positivity and has only lost .2 from its premiere, indicating that most of the audience has stuck around.

  • Dave

    @Bill Gorman

    Such a sad pic :/

  • Bluebells

    Though i’m a huge Reign fan I think they will both be cancelled(not see a second season), because Reign isn’t rating far better than TTP. Only 0.6s. If Reign were rating 0.7s-0.8s then yes it will surely see a second season. Sadly, this is not the case. With the 100 and Star crossed coming out, i don’t think a mere 0.6 can save Reign.

  • s0303

    retention doesn’t really matter in this situation cuz there were several weeks before Christmas where reign had better retention out of tvd than ttp did out of arrow…it hasn’t been consistent all season…personally, I think reign is a much better show than ttp…and I think the cw agrees with that based on interviews I’ve read…

  • Bluebells

    @tedtalks
    You seem to be saying Reign should do better with the highest rated show of the network as its lead in
    1.They aren’t even compatible, a period drama and a show about vampires
    2. Do the secret circle and Beauty and the Beast ring any bells?

  • cameron

    Still waiting for the cw to make the rest of their pilot orders. theyre really late this year.

  • eelna

    In summer, everyone thought Reign would be a flop, and TTP a hit. So now everyone calls Star Crossed DOA, but I think it will surprise us. As for The 100, I hope, it gets at LEAST a 1.0 for the premiere. It looks epic.

  • Tom

    Truly sad picture, Bill. Is that a BATB fan the Cancellation Bear is standing over?

  • Bluebells

    Lol at the people saying Reign is doing what Batb did last season. You do realize that Batb dropped from a 1.2-0.5 while Reign dropped from a 0.8-0.6. So why are they even being compared? Also VD was higher rated when Batb was behind it. I am in no way saying Reign is doing great, if you check my earliest comment you will see that i think Reign is going to be cancelled. But it is still doing and retaining better than Batb.

  • moshane58

    Reign has been the talk on the net but ratings doesn’t say that…..

  • Rebooted

    @Cameron

    Yes I am still waiting as well. They usually are a bit earlier.

    I’m hoping that The Perfectionists and Badlands get pilot orders, but I haven’t heard much on CW’s buzzworthy scripts yet (other than iZombie). Does anyone know anything else???

  • eelna

    where did you hear from iZombie?

  • Dan

    My guess is both Reign and The Tomorrow People will be cancelled. CW doesnt want another BATB situation on their hands since if they renewed Reign and moved it to another night it would flop hard and TTP would just continue its average. CW’s only hope is The 100 succeeding, if so I can see this as a schedule.

    Monday
    8:00 The 100
    9:00 Supernatural

    Tuesday
    8:00 The Originals
    9:00 NEW DRAMA

    Wednesday
    8:00 Arrow
    9:00 NEW DRAMA

    Thursday
    8:00 The Vampire Diaries
    9:00 NEW DRAMA

    Friday
    8:00 Hart of Dixie
    9:00 ANTM

    CW doesnt need bubble dramas like Reign or TTP (and saying Reign has a better chance than TTP really is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic) My advice, cancel them both, hope The 100 succeeds and if so move it to Mondays to pair with Supernatural (Supernatural has helped ratings on every other night of the week, so naturally next season it should help, struggling Mondays. Air 3 new dramas out of established hits, The Originals, Arrow, and The Vampire Diaries. And move Hart of Dixie to Fridays for its full final season. There no stupid bubble dramas and a stable consistent schedule.

  • Brandy

    Those saying Reign is doing same as BatB last season,by episode three,BatB was at 0.6& lost half it’s audience from the premiere and episode 8 got a 0.5.Reign has done neither yet.
    @TedTalks, nothing besides TO pilot has done really well behind VD.
    VD is down in ratings this season.VD & Reign aren’t compatabile:VD is a horror/Supernatrual ,vampire show & Reign is period piece

  • Bluebells

    Okay, i will throw all my negativity aside. We don’t know how things will end up till May, so those saying TTP and Reign should be cancelled should just hold their horses. What if the 100 starts high and then begins to decline after Arrow like TTP did.We can never know which show will come out victorious at the end. (i honestly hope its Reign because the show is too good, but also too much of an underdog). i’m almost tempted to leave the ratings site and come back in May because there’s going to be a hell of fanwars from viewers of these four shows from when the 100 comes out, i can tell you that much.

  • David Howell

    I’m pretty sure Reign is safe at this point, it sounds like they’ve put a lot of faith in it and it definitely has some momentum relative to TTP now.

    I’m expecting The 100 to come in between the two and be a tough call down the stretch. The big four are safe, HoD will get a final season, then add the usual three newbies and that’s eight hours accounted for. Reign gets one, not sure about the other.

  • MeAndMrsJones

    This was an unnecessary post, sir.

  • Bluebells

    Reign is one of those shows that is quality great and then you come to the ratings site after watching it and continue to rack your’e brain wondering why such a good show is rating so poorly. I would understand if it got cancelled. Oh well, that would just be the cancellation of another good show on the CW. (The secret circle and Reaper being the other two). If Reign is gone I will look forward to another period show, the Painted girls, here’s hoping another great(hopefully) show wouldn’t be cheated by ratings.
