While the Cancellation Bear made the prediction change a few weeks ago that Revenge is certain be renewed for a fourth season, now he's put it into a headline.

The bear is leaning positively on both Suburgatory and Nashville, but he's got plenty of time to make a prediction move, there's more than 10 weeks of ABC headlines to go!

While the ranking is still useful, at this point in 2014 bear cautions against reading too much into the current Index values for ABC shows. With their top 3 dramas yet to air a new episode in 2014, the overall network rating average is artificially depressed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Nashville will be cancelled.

still think Revenge is getting a short order final season?

  • sixseasonsandamovie

    ABC is always the same.

Some shows are inflated due to no Grey’s and Scandal, I’m curious to see the fates of Nashville and Suburgatory, ABC may end cancelling both, but they can also renew both because everything new not named Agents of SHIELD or The Goldbergs flopped.

    We’re Disqus now?

  • Daniella Eyla

Think Nashville should be renewed and not just because ABC has bigger problems. Besides being a good sow, It’s relatively stable and still has potential of growth as demonstrated in the L+7 ratings. It just doesn’t make sense to cancel it unless something dramatic happen between now and May in the ratings.

  • Midnight

Suburgatory and Nashville will both be renewed.

Nashville is halfway through its second season. If that potential growth doesn’t turn into actual growth in the next couple of months, then ABC probably won’t commit to doing another ~44 episodes of the show.
ABC already has 16 hours of programming that’s likely to be on their fall schedule. Six hours of new programming next fall would match this season, so they don’t need Nashville, especially if one of the spring dramas hits.

  • andreskizzo .

I think Nashville will pull through after all the flops this season.
Suburgatory I think would be a good match with LMS on Fridays, definitely better than TN.
Trophy Wife, its just too late to save it.

I love Grey’s Anatomy and I wanted to end next season before the ratings continue to dip. It seems like ABC would keep the show till it’s a 5 million viewer show since it’s their last “big three” drama that premiered 04-05. Even though contracts are signed for another 2 years, remember Desperate Housewives stars were also signed for 9 seasons and they ended it, its 8 season because they wanted to end on a good time.

  • jupiter3765

nashvilee might have to be an bubble show

  • JoeBethersonton

    Fingers crossed…

  • Anon

I hope Nashville & Suburgatory will make it as well! I personally feel they shouldn’t have done a midseason for season 3 but oh well.

  • atownandrew

ABC should put Goldbergs after Modern Family. It is worthy of following Modern Family and would become ABC’s #2 comedy.

  • andreskizzo .

I think they’ll pair it with The Middle instead.

  • atownandrew

    I like it.

  • andreskizzo .

It’s too bad they cant bring GCB back for 10pm Sundays.

  • ron fett

    Ditto!

  • Steven Lesser

With Revenge only needing 22 more episodes for syndication I don’t see the point in giving it a short order. If anything they should air it without repeats and finish it by March to premiere a new show.
