While the cancellation bear made the prediction change a few weeks ago that Revenge is certain be renewed for a fourth season, now he's put it into a headline.

The bear is leaning positively on both Suburgatory and Nashville, but he's got plenty of time to make a prediction move, there's more than 10 weeks of ABC headlines to go!

While the ranking is still useful, at this point in 2014 bear cautions against reading too much into the current Index values for ABC shows. With their top 3 dramas yet to air a new episode in 2014, the overall network rating average is artificially depressed.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

 certain to be cancelled by May, 2014

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I know this has been said many times before, but Trophy Wife NEEDED that post-Modern Family spot. That’s where it would’ve gotten the audience it needs as one of the best comedies this season. I think a renewal at this point is doubtful, but I’m going to continue hoping and enjoy the remainder of the season.

I am happy for The Goldbergs and enjoy the show, so I’m hoping it’s renewed as well. And of course Revenge!

  • iampaddii

At least Revenge is getting its final season. But another year like this and I’m pretty sure they’d even think about giving that show a fifth season…

  • StevenD

why would they do that when it was poorly rated when it aired 2 years ago!! Not to mention it was incredibly bad.

  • StevenD

Moving DWTS to Sundays would be smart if NBC’s The Voice didn’t exist. New shows will really struggle against it. Although CBS and Fox Mondays might weaken quite a bit next year so it could be worth the risk.

  • StevenD

they really shouldnt move Scandal to be against CBS drama night. I doubt they’ll bring back DWTS results show either.

  • Tony JJ

Desperate Housewives really had to do with cost. Housewives had a lot more origin cast members who were getting paid a lot with dropping ratings. Greys anatomy has only a few original cast members who are getting paid well and it’s still a huge money making machine for ABC. plus Shonda Rhimes is ABC’s god who has created multiple hits for the network, with possible hits next season compared to Marc Cherry who they never picked up another series by. I see Greys Anatomy last at least two more seasons unless next season they dip regularly below a 2.0 and ABC has a few breakout hit dramas. Both of which seem unlikely at this point.

    My schedule for 2014/2015

    8:00- SHIELD
    9:00- OUAT
    10:00- Grey’s Anathomy

    8:00- DWTS / The Bachelor/ DWTS
    9:00- Nashville or New Drama

8:00- Whodunnit (fall) / The Taste or New Reality (winter-spring)
    9:00- Revenge
    10:00- Scandal

8:00- The Middle ~ The Goldbergs
9:00- Modern Family ~ New Comedy (I wish Trophy Wife, but being realistic)
    10:00- Castle

    -Thursday Night Football-
    Mid Season:
    8:00- Whodunnit (new season)
9:00- Castle Reruns or New Drama
    10:00- Shark Tank repeats

8:00- Last Man Standing ~ Suburgatory
    9:00- Shark Tank

I would actually prefer to swap sundays and mondays, but there are to many changes already. Thoughts?

  • kb

Certain to be renewed? Why? They certainly don’t deserve it.

  • Aryam Manzueta Avila

They’re not moving shark tank, and they won’t premier 3 new comedies on a friday (nor any day), and grey’s is not premiering on january

  • Ultima

The expected profits from a fourth season of Revenge are significantly higher than the expected profits of a new drama.
Networks make decisions based on financial considerations, not whether or not a show has some arbitrary level of worthiness or some other such nonsense.

  • Ben98

I want Revenge to be cancelled after the fourth season (I’m really expecting a renewal). But I still want it to end in fourth season. It’s better to have an excellent finale, than an horrible finale, like The River, for example.

  • Aryam Manzueta Avila

I rather have a short 5th season, but if it’s going to be a full season, i would like for it to just end next season..I wanna see the graysons DOWN! (specially daniel)

  • Aryam Manzueta Avila

I think it could be renewed but with the kevin hart series, it’s going to get cancelled

  • Alex K. I. Nielsen

I really hope ABC doesn’t get the football deal, because its Thursday night is the one thing that works

  • TV Worth Blogging

mostly cuz almost all of ABC’s dramas failed this season and its near a syndication deal

  • TV Worth Blogging

i think you tuesday schedule will have the same problems that it has this year next year the way youve set it up. honestly tuesday needs an established show at 10

i could see nashville or even revenge there

  • billybobbie22

Gotta move Goldbergs to Wednesday. Still shocked they didn’t do it months ago.

  • Dahne

They had a golden chance to move both Goldbergs and Trophy Wife to Wednesdays. I would have been prudent to at least see what they would have done there.

  • capslocke

Fantasy Scheduling should be an Olympic event

    8- DWTS
    10- Castle
No need to screw with what’s been working for years.

    8- SHIELD
    9- NEW DRAMA
    10- Scandal
Okay so I really think ABC needs that NFL Thursday package, get itself back in the Superbowl rotation, have a good pulpit for promoting new series, and to lift its average back up from last place. Putting Scandal here will nip at the heels of CBS’ newly weakened POI.

    8- The Middle
    8:30- NEW COMEDY
    9- Modern Family
    9:30- The Goldbergs
    10- NEW DRAMA
Let The Goldbergs reach its full potential and be the anchor that it could be. The Middle isn’t gonna last forever, and this slot could provide TG just the sampling that it needs. Plus, finally, a tonal fit following Modern Family!

    NFL Football

    8- Last Man Standing
    8:30.- NEW COMEDY
    9- Shark Tank
    10- 20/20
Again, if it’s not broke don’t fix it. ABC seems to have won Fridays with this formula, let’s just get an actual family multi-cam after LMS this time, maybe something that could even build on it, like Malibu Country in the very beginning (Kevin Hart maybe?)

    8- OUAT
    9- Grey’s Anatomy
    10- NEW DRAMA
Moving Grey’s Anatomy to take over the slot that’s been virtually dead since its original launchpad Desperate Housewives ended will be poetic in a way, not to mention hopefully reviving the previous glory of ABC Sundays. The usual death slot of Sundays at 10 will hopefully be null with the GA lead-in.

    Thursdays after football:
8- Revenge (22 eps without repeats)
    9- NEW DRAMA
    10- Nashville (13 episodes)
We’ll get Revenge to syndication as quick as possible and put the losing-its-steam-way-too-early show out of its misery now.

Also, hold Suburgatory as a replacement. Despite popular opinion, its really not doing horrible after The Middle, and would probably perform decently post-LMS.
