The cancellation bear moved his prediction for Almost Human down to "likely to be canceled". Its 2014 ratings haven't been bad, but the lack of additional episodes ordered, and Bones moving back to Monday at 8pm sends the signal that Almost Human is done. Those claiming it was always intended to be a 13 episode "limited series" like Sleepy Hollow are engaging in delusional revisionist history.

Rake's premiere rating put it right in the middle of Fox's "toss up" range. Its second episode dropped it well within the "certain to be canceled" range. Since it was in the headline last week, the bear thought he'd wait at least a week before putting Rake back in. Can't get stuck in a rut!

The bear is now leaning towards moving The Mindy Project to likely to be canceled, but he's got time to see how Brooklyn 9-9 does after New Girl tonight. There are plenty more weeks of Fox headlines to write and fit Mindy in.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I sure will miss Almost Human. But as long as the Bear doesn’t have it at certain to be cancelled, I’ll hold out hope that it will be given a second season for Fridays.

I just hope the season finale can function as a series finale.

  • soggybiscuit

Touch got renewal for second season on Friday, renewal still possible for Almost Human

  • Science Advisor

Those bears should be roasting the ‘so-called’ survivors from LOST (even though they really were in Purgatory the whole time).

Just because FOX has not ordered more yet, does not mean cancellation predicted, so I think it is more on the bubble. It could easily get picked-up for next year. Then again, with the filming and writing quality of Almost Human, it would be easy to knock-out another six to eight even with an order this late.

  • Chuchundra

    I like that Glee’s R/C index number is #DIV/0!

Here’s the question, if Fox cans AH, what are they keeping in its place? What dramas do they have in the pipeline for 2014/15? Bones, Sleepy Hollow, The Following and Glee?

  • Jimmy Brown

People still think the characters in Lost were in Purgatory the entire series? If Almost Human is canceled, I will miss it, I enjoy it.

“Those claiming it was always intended to be a 13 episode ‘limited series’ like Sleepy Hollow are engaging in delusional revisionist history.”

Why is that, Bill? Please explain. If you have inside knowledge of the show’s production schedule and you believe it could have handled a back nine order, please provide references. Or if you think Fox is definitely not interested in moving towards 13- or 15-episode orders for any dramas other than SH and The Following for some reason, give us the skinny on that. Otherwise you’re just speculating like the rest of us.

Many shows that premiere late can’t gear up for a back order beyond the initial 13, especially if a lot of post-production is required, which is often the case for sci-fi shows. I’d like to think the pure data, the 1.13 number, tells us more than your speculation. Although in the end, I don’t know either.

  • Bill Gorman

Unless a network says a show is a limited (# of episodes/season) series ahead of time, it isn’t.

  • CrimTV

Are New Girl/Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s numbers after the Super Bowl not included in ratings averages?

  • JaM

scored 1.9/5 6.5mil yesterday.. down 0.1 point but numbers identical to Following…

  • HeadlessHorseman

No way Almost Human could get another 6 to 8 episodes this late. It couldn’t even get 2 new episodes this late. Production shut down back in December. Fox already announced the season (series?) finale would air on March 3. Bones is taking over 8 PM again after that. Fox won’t have any open slots to air new episodes in unless they pulled Rake, which seems unlikely.

However, I do not think this means Almost Human is a definite cancellation. But its chances are slim.

  • Bill Gorman

For a moment, the space-time continuum was disrupted. Order has now been restored.

  • soggybiscuit

Fox Superbowl bump, even though AH wasn’t promoted, wait for next week

  • Bill Gorman

They are not included. While, of course, Fox’s ad revenue profited mightily, they add no value to my predictive process.

  • Katie

I will miss Almost Human, I liked that even though it was basically a cop drama at least it was an out of the box cop drama I saw that Glee has had its season 5 order cut from 22 to 19 episodes, that makes me wonder if it will have a shortened season 6.

  • 69RoadRunner

Will the Bear hurt his teeth chewing on an android?

  • Raquel

How can it be a Superbowl bump, if AH wasn’t promoted? They promoted the hell out of The Following, though.

  • starship

Fox shot themselves in the foot by renewing it for season 6 in the first place, I wouldn’t be surprised if it only gets 13 episodes next year…

  • Benjamin Wyatt

While Almost Human as a show was not anything new or special, I really liked the synergy that existed between Urban and Early. Overall they really carried the show and while I won’t miss the show when its gone, I do wish that it had had a full season and perhaps a second.

  • AdWhois

That sucks. I choose to not believe it. Unless AH is ridiculously expensive to produce, it has better ratings and r/c index than others…

  • Babar Suhail

Although I don’t watch the show, I haven’t seen anything about Glee getting its episode order cut.
