The Cancellation Bear moved his prediction for Almost Human down to "likely to be canceled". Its 2014 ratings haven't been bad, but the lack of additional episodes ordered, and Bones moving back to Monday at 8pm sends the signal that Almost Human is done. Those claiming it was always intended to be a 13 episode "limited series" like Sleepy Hollow are engaging in delusional revisionist history.

Rake's premiere rating put it right in the middle of Fox's "toss up" range. Its second episode dropped it well within the "certain to be canceled" range. Since it was in the headline last week, the bear thought he'd wait at least a week before putting Rake back in. Can't get stuck in a rut!

The bear is now leaning towards moving The Mindy Project to likely to be canceled, but he's got time to see how Brooklyn 9-9 does after New Girl tonight. There are plenty more weeks of Fox headlines to write and fit Mindy in.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2014, the "old" Fall predictions will stay in the table.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I kind of wish Fox would just bite the bullet and officially declare themselves as the network that is going to be 100% cartoons and reality shows.

  • AdWhois

Right? Even I stopped watching Touch but it still got renewed for a 2nd attempt. I know fox has a relationship with Kiefer but they also have one with JJ Abrams

  • Ultima

FOX currently has seven hours of scripted, live-action dramas and sitcoms on their schedule compared to only five hours of reality shows and animated comedies (9 hours and 6 hours, respectively, if you include dedicated repeat timeslots).

  • Anthony

Not sure whether it was promoted or not as I had to work and missed the game, but if AH truly wasn’t promoted, then that speaks volumes to Fox’s thoughts of the program and it’s desire to bring it back next season (that it doesn’t want to).

  • Ultima

Are you suggesting that the Super Bowl magically increases ratings?

  • Eren

I know they had a full AH promo for those watching the NFL/FOX live stream, but no, there was no promo for AH on TV during the game. FWIW, the promos I saw were for The Following (3, I think), Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl (both airing after Superbowl, of course) and that last minute 24:LAD promo. I think there was something else, but I can’t really remember.

  • Anthony

Two comedies (Mulaney and Wierd Loners), Two dramas (Backstorm, and Hieroglyph) are ordered straight to series for next season in addition to Gotham which will most likely earn a pick up.

  • OnECenTX

‘Almost Human’ is going to be renewed and put on Friday. And I’m absolutely disgusted how Fox is treating ‘Raising Hope’ I hope TBS picks it up but I doubt it.

  • Ultima

Did you even watch Lost? The only part of the series where they were in anything similar to purgatory was the during the ‘flash-sideways’ segments in season six.

  • SVUnCI

Fox did a whole network promo after halftime but excluded, Enlisted, Raising Hope, Bob’s Burgers, American Dad and X-Factor in it. And Almost Human got at least 2 scenes in it.

  • Ultima

I could see FOX pulling Rake for a spring premiere of Hell’s Kitchen (but not for Almost Human, which certainly won’t be getting more episodes this season).
The only chance Almost Human has is a big hole in FOX’s schedule for next season.

  • Raquel

Oh, I saw it, but it was very fast. I think each show got like 2 seconds?

  • Ultima

You’re disgusted that FOX gave Raising Hope its highest rated scripted show as a lead-in for its first two seasons and then renewed it so it could reach syndication even after the ratings plummeted without the big lead-ins?

  • Ike1

Thanks for your reply, though I disagree. The lack of any announcement does not prove anything. You are making an assumption.

There is still the possible factor of production issues making it difficult to produce a back nine so late in the season.

Edited to add: See Headless Horseman’s post above — he claims: “Production shut down back in December.” So if Fox had theoretically decided, based on January ratings, that they wanted a back order, it would have been too late… assuming what HH said is true.

  • atownandrew

Every thing from Bad Robot that Fox orders gets cancelled. Almost Human would be a moderate hit if it got its Fox numbers on NBC.

  • merrrrrranga

so you argue that the lack of announcement doesn’t mean it wasn’t a limited series. you accuse him of assuming such. wouldn’t the fact that there’s no announcement mean that you’re just assuming the opposite with just as much proof?

also by your logic, the fact that they didn’t announce tosh.0 wasn’t a limited series i can argue that they’ll renew it for 3 episodes next season!

  • haxona

I am going to go out on a limb and say that Almost Human will get a full season order for the next season! You can quote me on that in May :)

  • skyfi

Kevin Reilly said they will keep most of current shows this year because of changes in pilot system. So Almost Human is still safe, if does not go down more.

    I hope you’re right.
