New Girl Super Bowl Prince

via press note:

With the final ratings in from Nielsen, both NEW GIRL and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE grew from yesterday’s preliminary numbers.

Live + Same Day

New Girl (S) 10:23p

Adults 18-49 = 11.4/27

Total Viewers = 26.3 Mil

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (S) 10:54p

Adults 18-49 = 6.9/18

Total Viewers = 15.1 Mil

Sunday’s special telecast of NEW GIRL is now broadcast television’s highest rated comedy telecast in nearly 10 years in Adults 18-49, since the Friends series finale on 5/6/04 (24.9/54).

NEW GIRL outperformed last year’s post-Super Bowl program, CBS’ Elementary by +46% among Adults 18-49 (vs. 7.8/23 on 2/3/13) and by +26% in Total Viewers (26.3 vs. 20.9 Mil).

Last night’s NEW GIRL also outperformed the most recent post-Super Bowl sitcom, The Office (2/1/09) by +4% in Adults 18-49 (11.4 vs. 11.0) and +15% in Total Viewers (26.3 Mil vs 22.9 Mil).

NEW GIRL was the highest rated scripted entertainment telecast on broadcast TV in six years, since FOX’s post-Super Bowl episode of HOUSE (12.9/31 on 2/3/08).

Brooklyn Nine-Nine! Those are solid numbers. Hopefully more people will tune in tonight with their new timeslot of 9:30/8:30c. That is the most important thing.

  • Dante

I know they had Prince. I know at one point in time, New Girl was FOX’s baby in the ratings department. But all that being said, I really fail to see the sense in airing New Girl out of the SB instead of BK99 and then New Girl.

Why not put a freshman comedy (Golden Globe winner) that is seeing an upswing recently in the ratings in the coveted slot and giving that maximum exposure as opposed to a show that has fallen so hard since the days it was a ratings giant for FOX.

  • Danny Stillinger

New Girl is a stinker. Brooklyn 9-9 got screwed with the running order. Most people start tuning out by 11pm. The work week always resumes the day after the Super Bowl.

  • Kevin

two and a half men had 27 million viewers for the season 9 premiere 2 and a half years ago

  • Ultima

Which is why they said highest rated (in Adults 18-49) instead of most watched.

  • Douglas from Brazil

FOX should had aired B99 after the game not new Girl.It was a bad move. Also Enlisted would perform well along with B99.New Girl is likely to have a 4th season and syndication deal than those rookies.A SuperBowl episode doesn’t make a difference to the show.Rookies would have more chances to grow being in 1st season.

  • ESL

I really want to see how the numbers for New Girl are tonight. Can they get 10 million viewers tonight? If I recall, the Office did not see much of an increase after the Super Bowl. I hope New Girl and B99 do better.

  • lojinxes

Its lead is a repeat of Brooklyn 99. Its opposite all new programming that includes a reality show finale. Don’t know if it’ll get much of a boost. Brooklyn 99 however should crib some of the Goldberg’s viewers at 930 and will likely have its strongest lead in of the season.

  • lojinxes

I wouldn’t call tying a season low in the demo and matching Dads with a 1.4 a few weeks ago an upswing. It did do well against all repeats last week.

  • StevenD

did not realise Friends ended so high. What were it’s average weekly ratings?

  • CrimTV

yes because a 6.9 18-49 rating for B99 is “screwed”

  • CrimTV

the Friends finale was way higher than it’s regular weekly ratings. I don’t know about 18-49 ratings but the final season floated between 19 and 26 million viewers, while the series finale had 52.46 million. For most seasons the show floated between these numbers, while some were over 30 million.

I’m going to miss enlisted so much… It deserves better

  • Ultima

I don’t have anywhere close to complete ratings for Friends (since it started in the 90s), but the ninth season (2002-03) was probably its lowest rated and it still had an 11.4 Adults 18-49 average for new episodes.
For comparison, that put it at #2 for the season behind FOX’s Joe Millionaire (12.2), but ahead of ER (10.9), American Idol (10.2) and CSI (10.0).

  • Danny Stillinger

Considering it could have been an 11.4 yes, it got screwed!

  • michelle

Like either show was going to hold onto an 11.4 anyway? All it is is bragging rights for one night. This week, back to normal. B99 didn’t even have its best episode either, so I’m not sure it would have been such a game changer anyway.

  • PhillyRay

    They will not hold ratings.
