Ongoing Series to Investigate What Retirement Means Today


March 31, 2014 – today launches a new coverage series examining the long-held promise and new reality of retirement, bringing the “Eye on America” tradition of in-depth reporting on important issues affecting the country to CBS News digital platforms.


The series aims to give users the knowledge they need to prepare for retirement, providing expert analysis, strategic advice, and insight into the choices faced by many of today’s working Americans.


The coverage series will span three months, and will include:


?       On-demand video from CBS News Financial Analyst and Ariel Investments President Mellody Hobson that will inform users about best practices in long-term financial planning, with targeted advice for people from their 20s through their 60s


?       Profiles of “new retirees,” including an under-30-year-old retiree, a worker unable to retire, and one choosing not to retire


?       Interactive tools allowing users to calculate how much they need for retirement, how long their savings will last, and estimate their Social Security


?       CBS News polling data to launch in June which will take the pulse of Americans’ feelings about retirement today


?       Interviews with elected officials from both parties and policy experts on how Washington should tackle the issues surrounding retirement


?       Reporting on MyRA, the pension crisis hitting some cities and states, scams targeting retirees, the benefits of buying long-term care insurance, the payoffs of good health in retirement, and more
