TENNIS GREAT AND DESIGNER VENUS WILLIAMS TELLS

“CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD” SJOGREN’S SYNDROME HAS IMPACTED EVERYTHING IN HER LIFE

Williams to Rita Braver: “I Think It’s Taken A Lot Away from Me that I Would Have Had – But I Don’t Feel Bad for That Because It’s Something I’ve Had to Go Through And I Can’t Change It”

Dealing with Sjogren’s Syndrome has impacted everything in her life, tennis superstar and designer Venus Williams says in an interview with Rita Braver for “The Design Issue” of CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast May 18 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

Williams revealed in 2011 she was battling the debilitating autoimmune disease.

“It’s affected my whole life. It’s affected my career,” Williams tells Braver. “I think it’s taken a lot away from me that I would have had. But, I don’t feel bad for that because it’s something I’ve had to go through and I can’t change it.”

Asked how long she’ll play tennis, Williams says that’s still “up in the air.”

“Obviously, the 2016 Olympics is on my radar,” Williams says, adding she’ll evaluate her career after that. “If I’m terrible, you can just call me and say, ‘V, it’s over.’”

Williams added that she’ll continue to play, “as long as I’m good, and as long as it’s fun, and as long as I can, I will.”

Outside of tennis, Williams is the head of a fashion design firm called EleVen, which produces a line of active wear. She’s also an interior designer. She says she didn’t want the companies named after her so they could stand alone long after her tennis career is over.

Williams talks with Braver about her fashion line, growing up with sister, Serena, and her childhood.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING is broadcast Sundays (9:00-10:30 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
