Weekly Ratings Notes for Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, TBS, TNT & NBA TV: ‘Loiter Squad’, ‘Deal With It’, ‘The Boondocks’ & More

Across the second week of June 2014, Adult Swim ranked as the #1 television network in Primetime among adults 18-34. Adult Swim’s Total Day performance also ranked #1 on basic cable for the week across all targeted demos – adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49.
Thursday night’s new episode premiere of the Adult Swim original series Loiter Squad (12 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all targeted adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-24, posting year-over-year delivery gains among adults 18-24 and all men, ranging between 2% and 21%. Similarly, Sunday night’s new episode premiere of the Emmy-winning original series Robot Chicken (11:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all adults 18-24, 18-34 & 18-49 and men 18-34.
On Monday night, a new episode of the Peabody Award-winning The Boondocks (10:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period on all cable among adults & men 18-24, posting delivery gains across the board of targeted demos vs. the same time period last year, ranging between 4% and 43%.
Saturday night’s TOONAMI presentation of Attack on Titans (11:30 p.m.) and Bleach (12 a.m.) each ranked #1 in their respective timeslots among adults 18-24 & 18-34 and men 18-34. One Piece (1:30 a.m.) and Blue Exorcist (2 a.m.) also ranked #1 in their respective timeslots among adults 18-34 and men 18-34. Finally, Black Lagoon (2:30a) ranked #1 in its time period among adults 18-34 and men 18-34 & 18-49, while Beware the Batman (3 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among men 18-34 & 18-49.
Adult Swim programming – including Family Guy, American Dad, The Boondocks, Robot Chicken, Loiter Squad, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Superjail – accounted for a dramatic 34 of the top 50 telecasts on basic cable for the week among adults 18-34, and 42 of the top 50 telecasts among men 18-34, both more than any other network.
Across the second week of June 2014, Cartoon Network ranked as television’s #1 network for Early Prime (6-8 p.m.) Delivery among all targeted boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14, earning delivery gains vs. the previous four weeks ranging between 6% and 14%. Additionally, Cartoon Network retained its claim as the #1 television network for Total Day Delivery of boys 9-14.
Touting all-new episodes of its top original animated programming, Thursday night propelled Cartoon Network to #1 across all television networks among kids/boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14, scoring dramatic double-digit delivery gains across these targeted demos, ranging between 11% and 42%. Highlights include The Amazing World of Gumball (6:30 p.m.) which ranked as the #1 telecast of the week among kids 9-14 and boys 6-11 & 9-14, and #1 for the day among kids 6-11 & 9-14 and all targeted boys. Average delivery gains grew between 20% and 60% compared to the previous year. Similarly, Teen Titans Go! (6 p.m.), Adventure Time (7 p.m.) and Regular Show (7:30 p.m.) each ranked #1 in their time periods among kids and boy demos, and increased delivery across all kids 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 mostly by double digits vs. the same time period last year.
Rounding out the week, Monday night’s performance (6-8 p.m.) also lifted Cartoon Network to the #1 ranking television network among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14. Likewise, Cartoon Network stood as the #1 network on all TV for boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 on Tuesday and Wednesday night (6-8 p.m.), and the #1 television network among kids 6-11 & 9-14 and boys 9-14 on Friday Night.
TBS scored a key demo victory last week, ranking as basic cable’s #1 network in primetime delivery of adults 18-49.
TBS’s Deal With It grabbed 1.4 million viewers in Live + 3 delivery for last Wednesday’s season finale, including 434,000 adults 18-34. The show grew +6% among adults 18-49 compare to the prior week, drawing 881,000 in the demo.
The Big Bang Theory on TBS scored another weekly victory, claiming basic cable’s Top 15 sitcom telecasts for the week among total viewers and adults 18-49.
TNT’s coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series from Pocono presented by the Dodge Charger on Sunday, June 8, averaged a 3.0 U.S. HH rating and 4,482,000 total viewers, up 7% and 3% respectively over last year’s comparable race coverage. The telecast ranked as basic cable’s most watched program of the day among total viewers and men 18-49 and the #1 program for the week with total viewers.
NBA TV has carried over its strong momentum from a record-setting NBA Playoffs first round, with the network’s primetime delivery up 20% among total viewers and total day audience up 7% among total viewers since the end of the opening round. The network is also registering growth across all key demographics, including primetime delivery of men 18-49 (+13% vs. same period last year) and men 18-34 (+8%) in primetime.
