MOST-VIEWED OPENING WEEKEND IN FIFA WORLD CUP HISTORY FOR UNIVISION DEPORTES

 

Univision Deportes 2014 World Cup Audience is +45% larger than 2010 World Cup through 11 Matches

 

Univision Deportes’ presentation of FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014™ delivered the most-viewed opening weekend in Univision Deportes World Cup history. The matches aired on the Univision Network, which was simulcast on Univision Deportes Network (UDN), from Thursday to Sunday, June 12-15, 2014.

 

·         The opening weekend of the 2014 World Cup averaged 3.8 million Total Viewers and 2.0 million Adults 18-49, pacing ahead of its 2010 World Cup coverage by +45% among Total Viewers and +31% among Adults 18-49 through 11 matches.

·         Univision Deportes’ opening match of the 2014 World Cup, Brazil vs. Croatia on June 12, is the most-viewed match for the tournament-to-date, across all networks regardless of language, with an average of 5.1 million Total Viewers and 2.7 million Adults 18-49.

  • Argentina vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina was the most-viewed match on Sunday, across all networks regardless of language, delivering 4.9 million Total Viewers, as well as 2.6 million Adults 18-49.
  • Univision Deportes’ pre-match coverage of the 2014 World Cup is outdelivering ESPN/ABC’s pre-match coverage by +11% among Total Viewers and +18% among Adults 18-49.

Switzerland vs. Ecuador

 

During the match between Switzerland and Ecuador (12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. ET), Univision was the highest rated broadcast station among:

·         Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami and Dallas

·         Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston

 

Univision stations outdelivered the same match on ABC among:

·         Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami and Dallas

·         Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami and Houston

 

In fact, the Univision station had more than twice the audience of ABC among Total Viewers and Adults 18-19 in Miami.

 

During the Switzerland vs. Ecuador match, Univision stations had higher viewership than the ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX stations combined in Los Angeles and Miami among Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 and among Adults 18-34 in Houston.

 

France vs. Honduras

 

During the match between France and Honduras (3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. ET), Univision was the highest rated broadcast station among:

·         Total Viewers in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston and Dallas

·         Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix

·         Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix and Sacramento

·         The Univision Deportes app is driving live stream consumption across Univision Digital; 67% of Univision Digital’s 2 million live stream views on June 15 came from the Univision Deportes app. The app has already been downloaded more times in June 2014 than the full 2013 calendar year. Additionally, since the launch of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014™, the Univision Deportes App has ranked among the top three free sports apps in the Apple App Store.

SOCIAL HIGHLIGHTS:

 

·         Univision’s airing of the World Cup match between Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday, June 15, was the No. 2 program across all English and Spanish language broadcast networks that day in terms of Twitter unique authors and Tweets, topping the airing of the 2014 U.S. Open Golf Championship on NBC across these metrics as well as Tweets per unique author.

·         Additionally, on the day of the match, Univision was the No. 2 network across all English and Spanish language broadcast networks in terms of unique authors, Tweets, and Tweets per unique, beating NBC, CBS and FOX.

·         Also on Sunday June 15, Univision Deportes Network was the No. 3 network across all English and Spanish language cable networks in terms of unique authors and Tweets.
