UNIVISION DEPORTES 2014 WORLD CUP AUDIENCE IS +54% LARGER THAN 2010 WORLD CUP THROUGH 17 MATCHES

 

Univision Deportes’ presentation of the Brazil vs. Mexico match of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014™ delivered its most-viewed group stage match in Univision Deportes history, with an average of 6.8 million Total Viewers and 3.5 million Adults 18-49. The match aired on the Univision Network, which was simulcast on Univision Deportes Network (UDN), on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.

 

  • The match reached 12.2 million Total Viewers who tuned into all or part of the broadcast.
  • The match was the most-viewed World Cup group stage match in Univision Deportes history among Total Viewers, besting the Mexico-France match on June 17, 2010 (6.0 million Total Viewers) and Mexico-South Africa match on June 11, 2010 (5.9 million Total Viewers).
  • Univision Deportes’ coverage of the Brazil vs. Mexico match outdelivered ESPN’s coverage of the same match by +61% among Total Viewers and +64% among Adults 18-49. ESPN averaged 4.2 million Total Viewers and 2.1 million Adults 18-49.
  • Univision Deportes’ coverage of the 2014 World Cup is pacing ahead of its 2010 World Cup coverage by +54% among Total Viewers and +41% among Adults 18-49 through 17 matches.

During the match between Belgium and Algeria (12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. ET), Univision was the highest rated broadcast station among:

·         Total Viewers in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston and Phoenix

·         Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

·         Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

 

Univision stations outdelivered the same match on ESPN among:

·         Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago and Phoenix

·         Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas

 

In fact, the Univision station had more than twice the audience of ESPN among Total Viewers in Los Angeles and Houston; and among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Phoenix.  Univision stations had more than three times the ESPN audience in Miami among Total Viewers; and in Dallas among Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

 

During the Belgium vs. Algeria match, Univision stations had higher viewership than the ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX stations combined among:

·         Total Viewers in Los Angeles and Phoenix

·         Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Chicago and Phoenix

·         Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco and Sacramento

During the match between Brazil and Mexico (3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. ET), Univision was the highest rated broadcast station among:

·         Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

 

Univision stations outdelivered the same match on ESPN among:

·         Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

 

In fact, Univision stations had more than twice the audience of ESPN among Total Viewers in Los Angeles, Miami and Phoenix; Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago; and Adults 18-34 in Houston and Dallas.

 

Univision also had more than three times the ESPN audience among Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 in Houston and Dallas.

During the match between Russia and South Korea (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. ET), Univision was the highest rated broadcast station among:

·         Total Viewers in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas and Phoenix

·         Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

 

Univision stations out-delivered the same match on ESPN among:

·         Total Viewers in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix

During the Russian vs. South Korea match, Univision stations had higher viewership than the ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX stations combined among:

·         The first six days of the 2014 World Cup (June 12 to 17, 2014) are the top six most visited days in Univision Digital history.  On Tuesday, June 17, Univision Digital received a record breaking 9.5 million visits, +18% more visits than June 16, Univision Digital’s second highest traffic day.

·         Univision Digital also had its all-time highest day for video on June 17, with over 8.3 million video views, inclusive of 5.0 million views from the three World Cup live streams.

·         Univision Digital’s three World Cup live streams on June 17, Belgium vs. Algeria, Brazil vs. Mexico and Russia vs. South Korea, made up two thirds of daily video views across Univision Digital, with the Brazil vs. Mexico match receiving 3.6 million of those views.

·         The Brazil vs. Mexico match broke two records on June 17: it is now Univision’s most watched live stream ever and it surpassed Univision Digital’s record for highest concurrent live streams for a single event.  The number of concurrent live streams for the Brazil vs. Mexico game peaked at 630K for Univision Digital and 750K for WatchESPN, a strong story for Univision Digital considering that ESPN's digital audience is 9 times larger than Univision Digital’s audience.

·         The Belgium vs. Algeria game was the second most viewed live stream on June 17, with over 3.6 million views and ranks as the seventh most watched live stream event on Univision Digital to date.  The third match of June 17, Russia vs. South Korea, received 604K views.

·         The Univision Deportes App earned the No. 1 position in the free sports app category in the Google Play Store for a second day in a row. The app continues to rank among the top five free sports apps since the 2014 World Cup launch, in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

·         Additionally, on the day of the matches, Univision was the No. 1 network across all English and Spanish language broadcast networks in terms of unique authors, Tweets, and Tweets per unique, beating ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS.

·         Univision Deportes’ airing of the World Cup match between Brazil and Mexico was the No. 2 program across all English and Spanish language cable networks that day in terms of Twitter unique authors and Tweets.  Also on Tuesday, June 17, Univision Deportes Network was the No. 2 network across all English and Spanish language cable networks in terms of unique authors and Tweets.
